Hersbird I'm only renting plus it's the first time I have ever lived in town , with a house just off the road .I didn't know the space in front of the house wasn't for my parking only ? Had a small festival in town awhile ago & someone wanted to park in front of my house -" in front of my mail box" I told them they couldn't ! The lady did give me a strange look .. No I'm the only house that has the worthless car port , others have small driveways . Garbage day is a breeze toss it to the curb & they pick it up lol

It is also perfectly acceptable to park wherever you want on a public street. People don't own the space in front of their own house. If all the houses are narrow with carports that don't fit cars, parking is probably a pain and another reason development like these don't have curbside delivery. Let me guess, garbage day is also FUBAR.

As RIKSNY explained - The town hates change no one in town limits has mail delivered , but can have a free mail PO box . Because of my disability , no car & live alone I was finally approved through a hardship letter . In which my Congressman helped me . So the PM came marked a spot right in front of my house , than told me it cannot be blocked . In front of my house is the only place anyone can park to pick me up or company to park . It's almost impossible to not block the box unless you park in front of my neighbors houses . I just got approved this past March & I've been on pin's & needles . When ever I need to go someplace or someone show's up .. They will block the box :( It's coming down to either a car will block the box & I get the right of having a box taken away . Or have the right taken away because I moved it so it wouldn't be blocked .

More like her rural carrier has an attitude and her PM is ineffectual. Both have forgotten their only job is to provide a delivery service.

She has been wrangling with the Postmaster and Rural Carrier about this for a while. Finally got a Hardship Extension approved, so customer now gets curbside delivery instead of a (free) PO Box. I hope moving the box won't create a problem for her. But it sounds like the PO kind of has it in for her already.

I don't, either. As long as 'they' don't make any Noise about it. Most Carriers who've been around the Block for a while know what I mean; they do not ASK a Boss, ANYTHING. So, I'll be refreshingly Blunt here, with you: Don't YOU ask, either. For, if there's one thing Postal bosses LIKE, it's blowing up "Nothing" into a big "Issue", then telling you "No". I worked there 30 years. Check my Handle (screen name). I think I know whereof I speak lol.

From what I understand she moved the box a few feet down her property line. What PO or PM keeps track of the position of anybody's box down to the foot??? If she had changed from mounted to foot, or placed a box out of delivery sequence, or moved a box from the front door to the back door then yes there will be problems. But just sliding the mounted box a few feet sideways? And next to a 'carport' that is no longer a carport? I see no issue...

/m69040 Your Carrier may or may not Dime you as Stew has said, but I guarantee you: The Post Office already has DETAILED records about ALL deliveries in your neighborhood. Unless you are New Construction, that is. They're been compiling this data for years, in an attempt to Bar the Carrier from encouraging his patrons to make delivery more difficult and time-consuming. Postal Management really IS that Petty. They WILL spend $100,000 in manpower expense, to deny a Carrier the "opportunity" to do this and possibly cost the P.O. two-and-a-half seconds per day, out on the street. HOW Petty are they? You don't wanna know. You probably wouldn't believe it.

Enjoy this extra service now because it will not last.

Sooner or later, PO will change carrier's route and he will point to your delivery as to why he needs more time. Or a new carrier will put it for OT every day because he wants to make your delivery conform to the rules.

These are the good old days.

It's been 5 days & even had the other weekend carrier deliver yesterday . He may or may not question the move being just weekend . I'm thinking if anyone will it will be the PM if she inspects the mail routes . I've already thought if it comes to that , I will make an agreement up that states the car port isn't & won't be used to park in . Worth it to have my box & be able to have parking space. BTW if anyone wonder's the carport is about big enough to fit a VW bug in . Very narrow & short ...

/m69037 ".... I want to make it as easy as possible for the carrier & me...." - Then, at all costs, you must figure out a way to keep Postal Mismanagement OUT of the equation. It's as simple as that. If they get involved, or involve themselves, it's FUBAR.

Wow Hersbird I always assumed the carrier is done by 5pm when the PO. closes . ? Where I lived before you could set a watch by my carrier within 1/2 hour either way . Guess all town's & mail routes are different . Just wanted a happy medium instead of worrying about losing the right to have a mailbox . My outgoing was taken & my incoming was put in . Time will tell if I'll get some kind of warning .
Poorfamily I want to make it as easy as possible for the carrier & me. Don't want to make more waves ...

The time a rural route will finish can easily range from noon to 8pm depending on the day's volume. The deal is, the front of the box is a no parking zone 24/7 if something comes that would normally be delivered to the box. Many areas even deliver small packages on Sunday. The time a city route comes is even more varied as they might take an hour off here and add it over there. So the end of one route might be the beginning of another on that particular day. Somebody has to be first and somebody has to be last, it's just the way it goes.

If you really wanted to mess with your carrier you could put in for a hardship delivery. Make the carrier get out at your house every day and bring the mail up to your front door box. Just have your doctor write a note that you can't get out to the box to get your mail anymore. Submit to the postmaster and he should approve a hardship delivery. I have several on my route.
