Judy, Texas is bad. So is Fl. I think we may get shut down again. I am hoping the kids get to back to school. They need the socialization, interaction, sports and challenge of their piers, as well as the education. Stay safe.

Hi Mary -- On my new iMac I've had to reinstall the original operating system...That took over nine hours. Let the computer run at night and checked in when I made a nature call to the bathroom. Then a week later Apple informed me I needed to update the system I just reinstalled. That was a seven and half hour project, after which Apple sent another message saying they were going to install yet another update a night but the computer would handle that and restart on it's own. Then I updated two programs -- Pages and Numbers. I thought I might be able to use them instead of buying an update for Microsoft's Excel and Word. That doesn't seem to be working...I don't like Pages. Have not tried Numbers but will likely buy and upload new Microsoft software. This tech' stuff is getting to be too much for this old lady!

I owe salts to two folks and I'm casing the post office for a time when there are only a couple of people there. The Covid virus is on a roll in the county I live in and the one next to us. Medical people are saying they can't do contact tracing for the 2000 new cases each day. Large hospital systems are moving staff around to better cover their ER's and ICU's. They are talking about converting one of the smaller hospitals to a Covid ONLY unit. So I'm glad Walmart delivers groceries and leaves them on the front porch.

Beautiful green Lynda. Still not getting messages from here. Do not see a place to sign up for this section either. Oh well, I will just keep checking in.
Can't do pictures here either or anywhere for that matter. Danged new computer. I need some help with it but that means a stranger to come in, and I am not ready for that yet. So I get to look a lot.

I've also been digging in boxes and through drawers. On occasion I've had to buy a lot of several salts to get one or two that I'm missing. Some collectors will do anything to get their FIX!

Have had the swan in base for years and it was a keeper from the day I got him. So glad I can finally contribute.
I will look for 2788 (?) in all the boxes ..

I'm all done with the rectangle page with all the information and pictures I have.
We are still missing 2788 and 2799.
Judy, 2786 isn't MASONIC by McKee. The catalog picture actually shows the bottom and it isn't diamonds. Also, I think MASONIC comes in square and round shapes only.
2797 is BRYCE NO. 4, but 2785 is CRYSTAL by Bryce Bros. It is shown on the catalog page.
2794 is ANDES by Elson Glass, with the help of Sid Lethbridge on the EAPGS Facebook page. Inez Austin and Jytte also contributed pictures for this page.

So good work everyone. Another page done, but I'm going to take a break from this for a bit. Got a few things to think through, and I've missed working on my Ancestry tree for the past month.

Judy: Here's the history on Brilliant Glass and the MELROSE pattern. I think you can knock McKee and Higby off your list of makers for that one. It was probably the Royal Glass factory that produced the MELROSE pattern for National Glass. It's hard to follow even when it's all written out. As far as the information page I will just go with Brilliant Glass c. 1888 and National Glass after 1899.

Lynda: Next would be the H&J page that begins with 2804 and the following page with all the tub shapes. We can also do the second color H&J page that begins with H&J 35. Many are Mount Washington just with different flowers. I'll try to finish up by the end of the month but it might go over a couple days.

Nancy D: Are you able to take pictures of your china salts? I know you have a lot of them and many are probably identical to some in H&J. I can save them.

Jan and Judy, this is just my opinion. This Beaded Acorn isn't from 1869. Jan your's looks as new as mine. It is prestine. No ware on it, no chips, nothing. I'm betting this salt is from the 60's or 70's. Just my thoughts as you 2 are much more knowledgable than me.

Jan more from the library -- Warman's Pattern Glass 2nd edition edited by Ellen Schroy. Beaded Acorn Medallion manufactured by Boston Silver Glass Co. East Cambridge, MA circa 1869. Shards have been found at the Boston and Sandwich Glass Co., Sandwich, MA. Made in non-flint in clear only. The book lists a master salt.

Also Warman's Pattern Glass same editor has the same info.

Wallace-Homestead Price Guide to Pattern Glass 11th edition edited by Dori Miles (Where have we seen that name before?) an Robert Miller credited Boston Silver Glass Co. but didn't list a salt.

Jan; Metz 1 listed Beaded Acorn Medallion as non-flint from the early 60's and 70's. It has a photo of a goblet pictured with a medallion just like those on your salt. There isn't an oval salt listed but there is a footed salt listed. Will get out a couple other books and see if I can find any additional info.

Jan my eyes aren't as good as I'd like, but when I enlarge your No 451 picture of the top of the salt it looks like there is an oak leaf and an acorn in the medallion. http://opensalts.us/References/HJProject/Shapes-Square.pdf

A page I put together on USA catalog images of plain square salts. Don't forget images are just drawings and might be out of proportion to actual items. So while some might be helpful in identifying plain sided square salts, most are useless except we know that company made a plain sided square salt. Oh, and these are just the ones I have. There are probably others.

Debi I have yet to wrap my brain around why H&J posted two pictures of salts, side by side, that are almost identical. Photo quality being what it was back then it would have been better having larger pictures and noted look-alike differences in the descriptions.

Judy: Just by looking at your profile view of the 2789/2790 you posted, it looks much shorter in height than the profile view of 2789 shown in H&J. In the H&J book 2789 and 2790 are sitting right next to each other even though the views are different. I still say 2790 is longer than 2789 but the measurements given in H&J say differently. With all the different sizes Jytte has, may she has both of these. To me, it looks like she has the same one you do Judy. The height looks the same, shorter than 2789. Just checked Jytte's measurement and hers is also 2-11/16" long.

Here we are trying to figure out a maker for BEVELED BUTTONS and it's already known that it was George Duncan and Sons. The pattern was introduced in 1888.

Jytte has a 2775. I'll have to see if I can contact her.

Riverside Glass also made an emerald green and since we know it's not Heisey, Riverside could be a possibility.

Jan thanks for the info on H&J 594. This is one like your cabinet master that was hiding out in a seldom opened drawer. When I looked at the BB and the vaseline together I also noted that the button designs are different. H&J 594 has fans above and below the buttons. How could I have missed that?

Don't you just hate it when salts hide away?

Judy, that isn’t BEVELLED BUTTONS; it’s H&J 594. This one has a slightly out and down-turned rim; BB is straight vertical. I have 594 in yellow, amber and clear and have seen blue. I only know of BB in clear and emerald green. I’m wondering if BB is like Heisey’s PINEAPPLE AND FAN and only comes in clear and emerald?

See, this is why I don't trust the book measurements. 2790 looks longer to me than 2789. Yet it says 2789 is 2-1/2" long and 2790 is 2-3/8" long. That's an 1/8 of an inch shorter than 2789. One or both of those measurements is off. I'm pretty sure that pink color is English. Maybe the clear one is too.

Jan - And if you are trying to keep salts together while on their sides and they just refuse to cooperate; try using a dab of rubber cement or a DOT that scrapbook makers to hold pictures and keepsakes adhered to pages. Both will hold the salts together and can be rubbed off without damage to the salt.

Jan -- Closeup photography is tricky because the camera lens will distort the subject. When you're close the edges of the picture will look more like you used a wide angle lens. Sometimes if you get a little more distance between the subject and the lens things will straighten out. I use a Nikon camera with different Modes (One is a closeup) but I still see the distortion. Backing up is easier than changing the camera mode.

I think I have completed the square page as much as possible now. Hey, I did have 2739 after all! So besides 2747 that Lynda thinks she has squirreled away somewhere and that weird 2761, we are still missing 2763. I went through the pictures again and didn't see it. I looked through my entire drawer of squares and didn't see anything like it. From the H&J picture it appears there are no beveled edges. That eliminates most of them from the beginning.

Judy, if you have the bottom views for 2769 and 2771 in clear on your computer, please send them. I think I have 2770 but not 2769 even though the depth difference doesn't look like much. I could probably use my bottom view for 2669 as well. But maybe Lynda might have both of those. I thought I had I them both but apparently not.

Does anyone have 2779 with the swan in the bottom? Maybe Mary has it. I think she featured it in an Ask Mary column once, but maybe it belonged to someone else.

Too bad that other pattern bottom turned out to be a master size. I could tell that Lynda's was a master because she also had an ind. in the picture, but hoped you were getting individuals.

Debi I won't be messing up your info on the Cabinet Salts. I thought I was getting INDIVIDUAL salts -- One with the third base pattern, but when they arrived this afternoon they are Master size. I know you don't want that size. I was lucky though; both salts are in great condition and I didn't already have them. I'm going to have to use more eye drops so I can read more clearly before ordering anything via computer. Last week I placed a home delivery grocery order at Walmart and mistakenly ordered CARROT SEEDS instead of carrots from the produce department. Never a dull moment in Texas!

Colors in one picture all in a row would work better. I don't have a lot of space on these pages.

OK guys, please don't hate me but the angled shots do not work well on a page. I tried to make them work with the square salts the best I could but to keep the image sizes in equal size those images have to be larger and then it's all out of whack. Definitely won't be able to make it work with the rectangle shapes.
