"What's your role in town, then? If Nail's whole thing is that he gives advice to people, what do you do?"

"Like I said, our relationship is a looooooooong and complicated story that I have no interest in telling because it's so damn boring," Haley answered coyly. "But we've been together for as long as I can remember. Though we don't always agree on topics much, we manage to get by."

"You ever actually *see* a giant spider? 'Cause I have, and there ain't a snake in the world big enough to eat one o' them bastards," Brandy said with a disgusted look on her face. "N' if you ain't a witch, explain to me how you n' Nail work. I ain't a stranger to magic, but you're basically a changelin', or somethin', right?"

"This big bad 'Great Witch' is just as human as the rest of you. And besides, spiders can be super tiny or super big. There's no escaping a spider, either; can't climb a wall or cling to the ceiling. They'll just climb after you." Haley shuddered, putting down her 'binoculars'. "Creepy ass things. I like snakes, though. Snakes eat spiders. Well, some would, I imagine."

"Really? The big bad 'Great Witch' who opened the doors to this place and is one half of a seven-foot tall monster of a man don't like spiders?" Brandy asked incredulously.

"Snakes aren't well-liked for a variety of reasons, both practical and religious. After all, some would say that Satan himself appeared as a snake to the first two humans, blah blah blah, everyone knows that story. And on the practical side, snakes can get into places you wouldn't think possible. Much like spiders. Eugh. Spiders."

Brandy stood there, silent for a moment. "Right, well, whatever..." she said, returning to running her hand down a snake statue in search of some kind of hidden switch or button.

"I never liked snakes," she muttered. "You can add that to your National Geographic documentary, I guess."

"I'm watching the elusive Brandy in her natural habitat: searching for clues and long-lost secrets of a world long since passed," Haley answered, still watching her. "Such an interesting person. What will she find, I wonder? What answers lie in wait for her keen eyes to seek out, even as others tell her not to do it... as one, perhaps, seeks to push her forward?"

"I don't... It's not a degree, it's... ugh, whatever," Brandy said, giving up. She saw Haley make hand-binoculars and tilted her head to one side. "...what the hell're you doin'?"

"We-ell... my relationship with Nail is more complicated than it might look on the surface." Haley shrugged it off. "But that story is looooooooong and so thrice-damned boring that I have zero interest in telling it. And hey, if the chick who has the degree in treasure hunting says it isn't there, it isn't there. I'm just playing the advocate."

Having decided that dancing was far less interesting than watching Brandy do... whatever Brandy wanted to do (don't question it), she had taken to using her hands as a fake set of binoculars as she stared across the room.

"I mean, I s'pose you might be right," Brandy conceded. "But sometimes things can be hidden in plain sight. Like you, for instance. You were part of Nail the whole time, yet nobody had any idea. The cellar is too obvious of a place to put somethin' suspicious."

"Personally, I don't care about breaking things. But I don't want to incur the wrath of Fuckface McMagor any further than I already have. So, no breaking things. Even if I wanted to smash his ugly face like a pot!"

That was a mental image.

"Well, searches are all well and good, but if you were meant to find something, don't you think you would have by now?" If there was a speed limit, Haley zoomed right past it with how quickly she changed topics. "Plus the place in general is so big. Who's to say it's somewhere in here? I know I'd put it in the cellar, but that's just me."

"Since when do you care 'bout not breakin' things...?" Brandy asked, remembering the bowling alley. "Anyway, as for myself, I'm jus' doin' some good ol' fashioned investigatin'. I figure that there's gotta be some clues 'bout Enola in this place..."

She looked back at one of the snake statues and sighed. "That bein' said, my search is comin' up dry so far..."

"Hum hum, do doo da doo do... eh?" Haley stopped mid-spin, looking over her shoulder at the treasure hunter. "Oh. Miss Treasure Hunter. I could ask you the same thing, which I am, but I'll answer yours first."

She took the time to deliberately end the spin, and bowed, sweeping her left arm to her right shoulder. "I am bored and wanted to practice my dance moves so as to alleviate it, my fair lady," she 'humbly' said. "Preferably without breaking something. I doubt Belphegor would appreciate me knocking his castle around."

Haley straightened, giving Brandy a knowing look. "So tell me, Brandy, what are YOU doing here? Beyond being creeped out by my mere presence."

Brandy had been in the ball room doing a little investigating (that's what we call it in the field) of the snake statues the lined the sides of the room. She couldn't determine much about them, other than the fact that they had a sinister aura about them, much like the rest of the place. The sudden hum of music in the previously empty hall had startled her, but the sight of Haley, whom the treasure hunter deemed an eldritch abomination, dancing without a care in the world frightened her more.

"Haley?" Brandy whisper-shouted, though her voice still echoed off the exceptionally open room. "What in the hell're you doin'?"

Was it day, or was it night? When she asked Nail, all she got was a mental shrug and no answer back. Which was wonderful in its own right.

"Useless voice in my head," she grumbled angrily. "Can't even tell me what damn time it is. Screw this, I'm going for a walk."

But where to...? The throne room, perhaps? Maybe back to the bowling alley to punt more bowling balls into things? No, Fuckface McMagor probably wouldn't appreciate that...

... Why not the ball room? She would get to move around freely, and there (probably) wouldn't be anyone who would want to dance.

"Sounds good to me," Haley said to herself. "Let's go dancing."

And so she walked through the halls, humming an older tune, sometimes pausing to tap out a particulary bouncy part...
