Lets all agree that we will be proactive in making the on deck hitter stay on his side of the field in the od deck area. This safety concern is discussed with the coaches. The coaches are informed that they play the most important role in keeping the players back where they should be...

This should be included with the information that we give the coaches at the coach meeting in January.

If noticed, the umpire can simply ask the player to "move back please"...Players will try to gain every advantage they can to see pitches. If it becomes a problem, inform the HC that you have asked his players to move back and they are not in compliance with your instructions. We discuss this with all HC's every year at the UMPIRE-COACH meeting...SAFETY!!! This also pertains to hitters moving closer to the plate while the P is warming up before the inning...Hitters must stay back AND stay on their own side. Plate umpire must be watching for this between innings. Base guys can assist with this when the ball is put into play-because the plate guy is focused on what is happening in front of him...
