"Well, I imagine Brandy would be happy to play with you," Seb shrugged. "Otherwise Klifford strikes me as a man who's always up for board games, card games and the like. After that, well, Oliver, Micah, Shizune... Guesses, mostly, but they seem more likely than, say, Matt or Daniel."

"Yeah, sounds good. More is always better, I find." Bennett smiles. "Anyone you can think of that'd be interested? Or well, seems like they would be? Given that you don't really know anyone here..."

"Ah, that's right," Seb nodded, sounding much less enthusiastic. "In that case, maybe we could organise a game with some of the others?" He was doing everything he could to avoid playing one-on-one with Bennett, though hopefully the bounty hunter wouldn't notice.

“Oh, come to think of it,” Bennett’s face lightens up at the mention of playing again down here. “Didn’t we find some cards in one of the miners’ rooms?”

"I see..." Seb responded awkwardly. Wanting to come up with a more meaningful reply, he then said, "Maybe it's a shame there aren't any of those sorts of games down here. They might be a good way for everyone to pass the time, and strengthen general group ties."

“I got all the activity I needed from helping old ladies carry their groceries.” Bennett chuckled. “Yeah, was pretty good I’d say, compared to your average Joe. Been a while since I played any of ‘em, so I might’ve lost my touch.”

"Really? I took you more for the physically active type," Seb commented. "Were you good at those sorts of games, then?"

"Doesn't make you happy? Huh..." Bennett dropped the subject as he probably wasn't going to get the answer he wanted anyways.

"Me? A drink or two, for starters. Though nothing close to that drunkard Matt. I'm also a fan of classic games. Be it chess, or some type of cards. Always were a hobby of mine when I was around your age. Though I'd often be playing with people twice my age!" Bennett chuckles, recalling a fond memory. "Granny Grunhilde was never one for euchre..." Also he kills people. But he'd never say that.

"It doesn't make me happy. However, books are at least interesting to read. If nothing else, they're a good way to pass the time," Seb replied blandly.

"Then, what about you? What do you do in your free time?" Please don't tell me it's just killing people.

“I see, I see...” Bennett’s tone showed a little bit of surprise. “I guess I can’t be surprised. Never was a book guy myself, but hey, more power to ya!”
That last phrase had very little enthusiasm put in it, almost as if Bennett didn’t think books were fun. “Well if it makes you happy.”

Seb's eyebrows went up at the statement almost all by themselves. "Cleaning is a great way to relax and take my mind off things," he replied in possibly the most confrontational tone Bennett would have ever seen on the taciturn teen. "But it's not all I do... I like reading at the library, too." A true plethora of hobbies.

Not comfortable talking to Bennett? Don’t be silly! “So uh,” Bennett breaks the new awkward silence. “What do you do for fun? Please don’t tell me it’s just cleaning...”

Seb nodded. "We've no real other option. If we just deal with what's here right now, maybe we'll make it out alright."

After this he went silent again. Anyone might think he didn't feel comfortable talking with Bennett or something.

“That would explain why the Mayor has no interest in rescuing us...” Bennett nods and agrees with what Seb says. “Though that begs the question, why does Belphegor want Benjamin? We can’t really have an answer for that...” Bennett sighs.

“We just have to ride this out, I guess.”

"How did Belphegor know about Lavender?" Seb said by way of answering. "If the mayor's really behind all this, then he probably made some kind of... demon pact thing with Belphegor. Maybe Belphegor's the one who told him all about Benjamin."

“I doubt we’re going to get any answers soon, and I don’t think Benjamin is interested in sharing...” Bennett signed and scratched the back of his head. “This is all one big damn mess. How would the mayor even learn about a prisoner out of the country?”

"Benjamin might be an even stranger inclusion than Matt, yeah," Seb agreed. "Apparently the mayor specifically requested him? But he's not even from Rattlewater, so it doesn't make sense in the first place for him to be titled a 'civilian'. So much about all this is strange..."

“You might be onto something there. I’m still real confused about Benjamin’s deal... if he’s so essential to our search party, then why didn’t he even tell us what he’s here for? Or what title he’s got?” Bennett shakes his head. “It all gives me a bad feeling, but there’s other things to worry about now.”

"Maybe we've been right in thinking that the mayor is up to something shady," Seb suggested quietly. "His choice of which Star Citizens should go on this expedition was suspicious; maybe his choice of who should be Star Citizens in the first place was also motivated by some larger plot."

“I hope we’re right about that.” Bennett crosses his arms.

“No, everything was pretty standard. As you’d expect from a drunk like him. The hard part is always getting the right chance...” Bennett replies in his usual tone, calm and relaxed, much unlike Seb. “It’s not like it matters at this point, since that damn fool somehow became a Star Citizen.”

"He's abrasive to everyone, so I doubt anyone would take any accusations of his seriously," Seb agreed. "And... maybe you're right about him being too drunk to remember it properly. Hopefully it's the same for him remembering me too."

He wasn't sure whether he should respond to what Bennett said, and he didn't particularly relish going into details about the bounty hunter's side of their 'work', but silence wasn't an appealing option either. "Um, was anything about that time different from the... usual? He doesn't seem like someone who'd have been particularly able to defend himself or anything like that."

“I... sure hope not.” Bennett finally days after a long pause. “He’s a damn drunk anyways, bet he thinks he just had a bad trip or some nonsense. Not like many would trust his word anyways, with how loud and aggressive he is.”

“...still have no idea how I even screwed that up.” Bennett mutters just loud enough to hear.

“Huh, so you really get around with your cleaning, do you? Pretty impressive if you ask me. I’ve pretty much heard of the same people, don’t really know any of em personally.”

“Ah right, Matt. You got any idea what the hell happened with that damn drunk?”

"Oh, I know of a fair few people here. My cleaning duties take me around the town," Seb explained. "I've seen Oliver and Lavender perform, I've passed Shizune by a few times, my cleaning route takes me by Ciro's sushi shop and I've eaten there on occasion, I'd heard of Charlie and Brandy, and Ivan's patrols mean he crosses paths with me sometimes. And then there's Nail... I really have no idea what to make of him. I've heard all kinds of strange rumours, and he sometimes offers me advice while I'm cleaning. Really I just try to avoid him.

"As for Daniel, sorry, I got muddled for a moment there. Daniel's alright, I see him occasionally while sweeping roads. I actually meant, um, Matt."

“Guess it makes sense, you’re pretty young, and everyone else is pretty older than you.” Bennett nods to himself a few times. “Though you’ve heard of Oliver, Ivan, and Lavender before yeah? I guess that’s just assumed. So why does Daniel get a special mention?”

Bennett waits a few seconds before adding “If you’re comfortable sharing, of course.”

Seb shook his head. "Only Klifford, really, and that's just because he's the doctor I visit for checkups. And... well, there's Daniel I suppose," he added awkwardly. "I don't know if he recognised me, though. He hasn't really treated me any different to everyone else."

“A heck of a lot, actually. So it’s shocking to see her so close with someone like Charlotte...” Bennett lets out a sigh. He seemed to be content with just venting at Sebastian.

“I guess I need to get a chance to ask her about it later... We haven’t really seen each other in ages, though. About a year before this damn expedition.’ Might be a little awkward...”

“Say, did you know anyone else before we got trapped in this cave?” Bennett seems eager to change the subject away from Brandy.

“Yeah, that’s what she does from what I can tell.” Bennett nods. “I’m surprised Brandy is working with her and seemingly okay with what she does, much less the damn mayor.” Bennett frowns and spits on the ground.

“What she does makes me sick. Stealing from the rich and just letting those less fortunate get by without putting any work in? What kind of world do we live in where people embrace that garbage?”

"Charlie? Um... I don't rightly know what she 'does' in the first place, to be honest," Seb admitted, turning back to Bennett but then looking at his feet. "She steals from passing vehicles and gives it to the town? And the mayor's completely fine with that? Isn't that just... a crime? I was surprised to hear Brandy supports her actions, honestly."

“Or... we could...” Bennett stops himself. “Eh, never mind.”

Bennett catches Seb eyeing the hideout. “Didn’t know Brandy and Robin Hood were all about using this cave as well. Hell, I didn’t even know Brandy knew her.” Bennett shrugs. “Hey... Do you think what Charlotte does is any good?”

Seb nodded, though uneasily. "Yeah, I don't think we have any choice in the matter there. This Killing Game is our reality now, no point fighting it."

Having run out of things to say, he stared blankly around the hideout. He might have been feeling more at ease now, but he was still too intimidated to get any closer to Bennett.

“Alright if... if you say so.” Bennett frowns.

“Yeah, but even if it can’t be explained, there has to be some sort of logic behind it, right? There has to be some rules it has to follow, even if we don’t understand them. At least that’s what I think.” Bennett leans back and puts his hands in his jacket pockets. “Can’t hurt us to follow these killing game rules, at the very least.”

"Oh, no, nothing like that," Seb said, shaking his head. "But it would cause problems if she hangs out with another guy, right? And anyway... After carrying off her uncle's corpse to hide it, it's difficult to really meet her in the eye anymore. But it doesn't matter. I don't really care anymore, so it's not an issue. I'm content with things as they are now," he concluded coolly. "Maybe it's for the best I don't get close to her, or anyone else for that matter."

At the mention of Belphegor, Seb tensed up a little. "Magic doesn't follow the rules," he said for a second time. "All our normal ways of thinking might not even apply in this situation. That makes it hard to really know what to do."

“Oh.” Bennett frowned at the mention of a dead uncle.

“Well, were you into her like her guy is? I mean, if you were, then I can see why you’d be less interested in hanging around her, but if she was just a good friend then I see no reason for you to stop spending time together. Especially if she saw you as a good buddy as well.” Bennett chuckled. “And hey, if you are into her, then take it from me, relationships don’t always work out... You might get your chance.”

“Yeah, guess I do huh? But saving you some trouble might not be a bad idea. Besides... who knows if it’s even worth it with Belphy around.” Bennett seemed hesitant, for whatever reason, and was gently tugging on his shirt collar.

Seb shrugged, looking unconcerned. "I'm more comfortable hanging out with girls than boys, which tends not to play well. Boys think you're weird, and girls think you're just trying to hit on them. I guess I did have one friend before, which tied me in with her social circle, but we kinda drifted apart after... W-well... Her deadbeat uncle was killed," he finished uncomfortably, not quite looking at Bennett. "B-but anyway, she'd gotten a boyfriend so it's only natural we'd stop hanging out after that, right?" he added lamely.

"Anyway, yeah, it would be... nice if we could avoid any more murders. Though I... guess I leave that up to your judgement, you know best after all..."

"Guess that's true... Everyone here's pretty older than you. But no friends at school? Nothing?" Bennett shakes his head. "That's no good." Bennett frowns, though he and Sebastian are far from friends, he's still going to do what anyone else would do if they were in his situation.

"Ah, yeah, I'm after someone here. A job's a job, and I'm not about to let some stupid demon get in my way of doing my work." He crosses his arms, his smile fading quickly. "Dead or alive, yep. Though it'd be a hell of a lot easier to get her out of here dead, come to think about it... But, I guess it doesn't have to be that way."

"There's no-one here close to my age," Seb replied, shrugging. It seemed as though talking with Bennett in this much more ordinary way about more ordinary matters was genuinely making him relax some; it was probably the first time he'd been able to calm down, at least somewhat, around the bounty hunter. "Even the youngest are around university age, I think. But I don't really mind, I'm quite used to it. These days I don't really have friends back in Rattlewater either."

He nodded in response to Bennett's other point, though he seemed more on guard again about it. "I know what's in my own best interests. Actually, about that... You mentioned it before. You know, um, that there was a target down here. You said they could be taken in dead or alive?" He emphasised the last word hopefully, or at least as much as his usual taciturn expressiveness allowed.

Bennett frowns. "That's no good. Kids your age need a friend or two, Sebby. Maybe you should think about getting closer with someone here."

"Though... I'm at least glad to see you're still with me here. Don't want anything happening to you down here. You're a good kid, and I know you wouldn't do anything that'd jeopardize what we've got going on while we're down here." Bennett smiles, hoping that Sebastian would ease up, if only a little.

Seb nodded. "Yeah, if we keep our wits about us we should be able to make it through this... I don't really trust anyone here, but I am at least confident in the skill of, say, Ivan or Brandy."

He was silent for perhaps a little too long before hastily adding, "Oh, but obviously I trust you at least. We've... got each other's backs and all that. Plus you're a bounty hunter and all."

If Bennett noticed Seb clamming up, he didn’t show it and went right ahead like nothing was wrong. “You’re right. It’s still ridiculous just thinking about what’s kind of situation we’re actually in.” Bennett pauses. “I don’t think it’s even really sunk in yet to be honest.” He sighs.

“At least I’m happy to be here with some good, trustworthy people. Better than being alone and afraid, or trapped, like Lavender was. Feels like we might actually make it out of this messed up situation.”

Seb had clammed up while Bennett was speaking, but then realised he needed to respond. "Life... has a way of surprising you, I guess?" he said weakly. "Putting us in this situation where we can talk, I mean. Um, though, the demon is a bit much even for me," he added, looking to one side. "In the real world outside this cave, you can at least try to deal with any problems that come up. But magic? Magic doesn't follow the rules, magic can do whatever it wants. That's... kinda scary."

"Hey, glad to see you're actually doing alright." Bennett was happy to hear Seb was okay, and pleasantly surprised to be asked how he was doing.

"I'm actually doing pretty fine myself. Though I've seen a lot worse with my line of work, now that I think about it..." He put a hand to his chin and paused for a moment. "I'd expect someone as young as you to be really freaking out through this whole cave in and demon summoning and all that, but you're actually doing pretty fine from the looks of it. If you'd ever want to chat with someone about some issues though, don't think about hesitating."

"Say, we don't really get many chances to chat like this, do we? I find it kinda odd that after all this time we've never stood around long enough for some small talk."

"I'm... Feeling just fine," Seb replied awkwardly. He was always awkward around Bennett. "Same as usual, really. I... made sure not to stick around after we'd caught Lavender, so I wouldn't have to see whatever Belphegor had had planned for her. I don't mind seeing dead bodies, but watching them actually die is... Well, I'd rather not find out how I'd be feeling after that."

He was silent a little longer before realising it would be normal to return the gesture in this situation. "Um, a-and you?" He knew full well Bennett could probably handle himself just fine with these tribunals, but he felt compelled to go through the motions and ask anyway.

Bennett turns slightly to face the new person in the hideout with a smile.

“Heeey, Sebby! How’re you hangin’ up after that Tribunal?” He waits a few seconds for a response before realizing that the two are alone, and behind a waterfall, and that nobody can hear them speak. His expression didn’t change, though. Bennett smiled wide and patiently waited for Sebastian to respond, hopefully with the same enthusiasm. He should really know better by now.

There was no avoiding it. At some point, Seb and Bennett were going to have to talk to one another again.

Somehow or other Seb found himself face to face with the Bounty Hunter in the hideout behind the waterfall. They were alone, and the waterfall did a good job of both concealing them and masking anything they said. Even still Seb wasn't sure how Bennett would want to handle this, and had no idea what to say. He elected for simply standing there silently.
