"Perhaps, perhaps... There's always a story as to why a person is the way they are," Oliver knowingly remarked. "But regardless, I appreciate your support, Miss Henn. If trying to be friendly doesn't work, well... hopefully I'll grow a bloody spine," he said with a small smirk.

"If he does, I got your back," Brandy said with a grin. "But he's probably got somethin' weighin' 'im down, too. So maybe if we got to know 'im better, he'd calm down."

"W-Well, I, er..." Oliver stammered for a moment before clearing his throat. "I... suppose you may have a point. And if I don't stand up for myself or others, he would, ah, likely continue to harass me and others. I just dearly hope he doesn't lose his temper and strike me."

"I s'pose that makes sense..." Brandy conceded. "But don't you think it'd help your reputation if you started puttin' you neck out there for others? Not that you have a bad rep, but people would think you're more than jus' some weak performer."

"Wha-- N-No!" Oliver said suddenly. "I, er... I was just scared of, ah... o-of him possibly striking me with that wrench! He doesn't seem to like me in particular. The last thing I'd want is a bruise on my face... Well, second to last thing I want. The last thing I want is another murder. Obviously."

"Why ain't you willin' to stand up to a bully like that?" Brandy asked. "Are you a coward, Oliver?"

"Yes, I suppose, but still," Oliver began with a chuckle. "It's nice to know that someone is willing to put him in his place. I know I'm certainly not," the redhead sheepishly conceded, shrugging his shoulders.

"Well, hopefully we'll be able to function as a team better as time passes on. Though this whole bloody killing game business is definitely complicating matters..."

"Oh, well, that was nothin', really," Brandy replied sheepishly. "I just hate that he keeps pickin' on that poor girl. It's probably not her fault she is the way she is or the that she got roped into this. We're s'posed to be a team but we're seriously dysfunctional..."

"Much as I don't want to agree with that... You have a point. We'll have to stay vigilant and wary. People can do rather nasty things when they're desperate. I know that all too well..." Oliver let out a sigh and stared blankly at the wall, just sitting in contemplation. After a few moments, he rubbed his eyes.

"Erm, anyway. We should try to not be all doom and gloom. We'll find a way out eventually; I'm certain of it." A small smirk came onto the performer's face. "Also, I must say that it was courageous of you to stand up to Matt like that, back at the campfire."

"Carrie may have been smellier than a sewer gator in heat, but she was good at heart and was human, jus' like the rest of us. And what happened to Lavender ain't right -- none of this is," Brandy said after taking a sip from her canteen. "N' I don't want anyone to die either, but you probably already knew that. But the reality is, someone probably will die again. It could be me, you, or anyone else. I want to keep this team together for as long as possible, but if we don't find Enola soon..."

Her voice trailed off, leaving her silently staring at the Ten of Diamonds and Nine of Clubs that had been left at the table. The cards looked like the had made a nice meal for some kind of insect, having edges that were browned, ragged, and uneven.

Oliver solemnly nodded in response. "Indeed... Honestly, while I want answers, my main goal is getting out of here alive. I... I don't want to die. And I don't want to see anyone else die either... Carrie and Lavender was already too much."

He let out a hefty sigh. "Lavender was my main rival. While I did dislike her for stealing my shows and audience..." he began, letting out a noticably mirthless chuckle. "I didn't want to see her die like that. Or... whatever happened to her. And seeing how she was used by that doctor only makes me feel worse for her."

"I wonder if them riches are a trap..." Brandy said. "This is all too convenient, I feel. We jus' so happen to find out Carrie's parents were miners in here and died? And for that matter, who's the goober that hit Lavender?"

She sighed. "There's so many questions... but I get a feelin' the answers ain't pretty."

"That's a fair point," Oliver conceded, deciding to take a quick break from playing the banjo to talk more effectively. "Perhaps they were forced to abandon it because it was collapsing, or at least was about to?"

He shrugged. "Just my guesses, at the very least. Regardless, there was a reason these mines were abandoned when there are still such riches lying beneath!"

"You think it might have somethin' to do with the same thing that killed Carrie's parents?" Brandy asked, observing the hands in the card game. It appeared to be Blackjack, and one of the players chose to hit with a 19, but never found out whether he went over 21 or not.

"I know that was more about the cave itself collapsin', but maybe these guys ditched at around the same time."

"That it is," Oliver replied, still continuing to form a tune in his head and play it on the banjo. Quite a good multitasker, he was. "I personally think it's been abandoned for quite some time. Though I wonder why. I mean, there are a great number of diamonds still down here, correct?"

Brandy, who had also been in the room, was examining the broken bottles of beer and the curious condition of the card game, which had been left mid-play. She appeared to be working to the tunes Oliver was creating.

"You know, I wonder how recently this place was abandoned," Brandy said aloud. "It's a little eerie, if you ask me."
