Registered letter posted in Grosswangen, transit Luzern, to Baar. Total distance 60 Km.
10 centimes postage plus 10 centimes registration. Red squiggles upper right was standard Luzern marking for registered items.
This was refused in Baar, see writing "nicht angenommen" [not accepted] in lower left underlined in red crayon. Baar is crossed out in red ink, and the letter was returned to Grosswangen.

Geneve to London international printed matter rate.
Postcards were not accepted at a reduced rate to England pre-UPU, so this card with no writing on the reverse was sent as printed matter. There is only a Basel transit date stamp in the reverse side.

The H. Werninck company was a stamp business established by a very young man and his brother who wanted to become stamp dealers. Due to being under 21 years old they were not allowed to open a business in their home town of Leipzig. They went on to publish philatelic price lists and brochures for many years.

Post card sent from Geneva to In Salah, Algeria via Biskra, arriving February 3.
If you google In Salah, you will discover that htis card travelled into a very remote area of the Sahara, even today I think one would call it an adventure.

11 January - Two items addressed to Aarau

1868 - Domestic letter from Zürich

1894 - International postal card from Vimiero, Portugal.
Vimiero was the site of a very famous battle between British and French armies in 1808.

All cancelers on these two items were made by Güller.

St Gallen to Kaltbrunn. Some post offices still used date slug cancelers. This letter is dated 3 years after the first issue of date wheel devices and is a Main District Office which is all the more remarkable.
