As you may have read in the message above, Quicktopic will be closing down after a 20 year run. I created this chat for Swiss collectors in 2015 and expected more participation, so for my part posted a daily calendar of items from my collections. I hope they were enjoyed by those who stopped by.

For those interested in numbers there have been 17,449 views, of which they were from 6254 unique ISP addresses. Of course, about 2000 were posts I made with my daily items.

The January edition of TELL will no longer have a chat link, but I will recommend to the AHPS Board that the society create and maintain a means of communication via the internet for those interested.

Thanks to all who looked in and occasionally asked questions and posted items of interest to all of us who look at this board.

31 October 1882

10 centimes postal card from Geneva to Chaux-de-Fonds. This was actually for internaitonal use, the 5 centimes card for domestic use. Of interest is the Geneve "sackstempel" which originally had the letters "PD" inside the sack. This was tested for use on international letters in the early 1870's but after 1875 unnecessary due to rate simplification by UPU.

Postcard from Luzern (razor cancel) to Eschenz, which used a canceler manufactured circa 1872-5. So it's at least 25 yeas old, which was not uncommon at small post offices.

Uprated wrapper from Chur to Lugano.
First sent on 26 October at 3 centimes rate for more than 50 items, returned and resent on 27th since that many were not in the group, therefore, requiring additional 2 centimes postage for fewer than 50 items.

One letter from a correspondence of ten letters I have of a college age traveller touring Switzerland with a friend. These letters were written to his father, who incidentally travelled with James Audubon on an expedition to Labrador in the 1820's.
This series of letters describes hiking throughout the mountain regions of Switzerland while the heavier baggage went by stage coach.

22 October 1868

International pre-UPU letter from Geneve to Taninges, France, canceled using one of Güller's first rotating date wheel cancellers invented in 1866. This mechanical design became the Swiss standard canceller and a major international standard for many years. It was so popular it became known internationally as the "Swiss style canceler".

News today from Quicktopic adminstrators that after 21 years as a message board they will be closing this and all of their chat boards down as of Dec 1 with last messages postings on November 17.
As of today there have been 17,305 views of this board by 6176 users determined by ISP address since 2015. Thanks to all who have visited. I'll suggest that another person host an AHPS chat board funded by AHPS rather than myself. It has been fun, I only wish more collectors had participated.

So it goes - I will post my daily items until 30 October since I've selected them out of my collection to that point.

Today 18 October 1902

Postcard from Chicago, IL to Pension Tivoli, Luzern, Switzerland, forwarded to United States Consul, Paris, France, who reforwarded it to Hotel Balzar, Paris. Luzern razor cancel reasonably scarce as a forwarding date stamp.
