22 October 1868

International pre-UPU letter from Geneve to Taninges, France, canceled using one of Güller's first rotating date wheel cancellers invented in 1866. This mechanical design became the Swiss standard canceller and a major international standard for many years. It was so popular it became known internationally as the "Swiss style canceler".

News today from Quicktopic adminstrators that after 21 years as a message board they will be closing this and all of their chat boards down as of Dec 1 with last messages postings on November 17.
As of today there have been 17,305 views of this board by 6176 users determined by ISP address since 2015. Thanks to all who have visited. I'll suggest that another person host an AHPS chat board funded by AHPS rather than myself. It has been fun, I only wish more collectors had participated.

So it goes - I will post my daily items until 30 October since I've selected them out of my collection to that point.

Today 18 October 1902

Postcard from Chicago, IL to Pension Tivoli, Luzern, Switzerland, forwarded to United States Consul, Paris, France, who reforwarded it to Hotel Balzar, Paris. Luzern razor cancel reasonably scarce as a forwarding date stamp.

2 centimes wrapper uprated for international rate to Schwenwald, Baden.
Date stamp is Ste Croix deCoppet canceller, a prototype to test his improved 1889 mechanism. He first sent this to Ste Croix in 1897. The PTT allowed it to be used prior to the issuance of his series of 10 razor cancellers in October 1898.

Doubleweight letter sent from London, England to Hotel Schweizerhof, Luzern. Postage due because short paid. Standard International letter should have been 2 1/2d, double weight 5d, so 2d short = 10 centimes per 1d = 20 centimes short plus penalty of 20 centimes!

Hi David121314,
"Amazing postcards, I am starting to collect a variety of postcards from a few nations.". . . . . .

Thanks for the comment about postcards. I appreciate your post on this chat board and hope you will return and make relevant philatelic posts in the future. Don't feel bad, but I'm deleting your previous post since it contains a commercial non-philatelic link. I try to keep this board all about stamps, and covers, and postcards, etc., etc..
