The Book of Genesis

You have to love the lessons learned from Joseph. First of all, you learn to persevere and trust the Lord. Joseph was enslaved or in prison for 17 years of his life and still honored God in everything he did and said. After 17 years, he found himself second in command in Egypt. God had a plan to prosper him just like He has a plan to prosper you. We just need to realize that we are going to have hard times in life just like Joseph.

Also, we need to know that God answers our prayers, but in our fast past world so many times we find ourselves impatient and not willing to wait to see what God has planned for us. We must fully Trust God with our lives and not be so impatient.

Genesis Chapters 24 through 26 continues the story of Abraham. Is this section of the Bible, Abraham demonstrates 4 key principles to receive God's guidance.
1. Knowing Gods word in order to make decisions in life. Abraham knew from previous experience that God saw the Canaanites as people to stay away from because of their lifestyles. So Abraham used this knowledge to send his servant elsewhere to locate a wife for his son. Knowing God's word helps us to make decisions in our life. Without God's word, we have no way of filtering the Good and Bad of what the television shows demonstrate as acceptable.
2. Commitment to God's Will. Abraham was committed to following God's word by finding a suitable wife for his son.
3. Trusting in God's Will. If the servant would fail in finding a bride for Isaac, Abraham would just wait for God and wouldn't force the issue. He trusted that God would provide.
4. Finally, pray for God's Wisdom. Abraham's servant used prayer to ask for God's helping in finding a Bride. When we pray, we aren't sure if God will answer. It says in James 1:6 it says, "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt.". I think this is were we fall short. We pray but don't always believe that God will answer. Also, we want God to answer in a certain way and don't always see that God answers our prayers but sometimes not the way we expect. We should always pray and finish with the idea of God's will be done. God has a plan for us and the way He answers prayers is sometimes to help lead us in a direction in life that we may not have planned. You must always understand that God has a plan for your life and plan to prosper you and not to hurt you. So always pray and ask God for his guidance.

Genesis Chapters 18 through 23 continues the story with Abraham. This section of the Bible covers a variety of stories starting with Sarah (Abraham's wife) becoming pregnant at a very old age (past the child bearing age), the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and including the testing of Abraham's faith by requesting him to sacrifice his one and only son to him and Sarah. This section is about God making a lasting impression on the people. The women in the community would surely know it was God's hand that gave Sarah the baby, the towns in the area would surely see that God can come and destroy any unfaithful town in the blink of an eye (which I am sure was in the thoughts of the town of Ninevah when they were asked to repent, something you will read about later, and finally Isaac would surely remember the faith his father had when he was tied up to be sacrificed. These lasting impressions are to remind us that God is in control and He has the power to do what we see as impossible. Put your faith in God through Him everything is possible.

Genesis Chapters 11 through 17 starts the story of Abram(Abraham). Abraham listened like Noah. When God said to do something he said Okay.
However, the Bible isn't just about us learning to listen and obey. The Bible is God's way of reaching out to us so that we can know him on a personal level. God wants to be your friend. He wants you to count on Him to console you, to lift you up when you are down, to invite him to share with him the good times in your life, and to connect with him regularly like you would a friend on speed dial to talk about what is going on in your life. The stories of the Bible may seem like historical accounts, but you must learn to read between the lines to find the meaning in your life. Please continue to Read Genesis as I continue to cover more and more of the story each Sunday in my sermons.

Genesis Chapters 6 through 10 talks about Noah. Noah was the only person who listened to God. Analogy to help you understand. Have you ever got the black spots on your tomatoes over the past couple of summers. When you research the infection, you find out that you must pull on the infested plants in order to save the good plants. All of the world was infected except for Noah and God had to get rid of the bad to protect the good.

Realize the it took probably years for Noah to build the Ark and the Ark became like a giant billboard for people to repent. If anyone would have repented, I believe God would have saved them just like the town of Ninevah was saved (a story we will discuss later).

Genesis Chapter 1 through 5 talks about Adam and Eve and the reason why we have problems in life. Since the fall of man, man has struggled and been tempted to walk away from the direction God has wanted them to follow.
