Hi Sharon! No, not even remotely close to LI. I live near Rochester, NY, which is on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. It's about a 6-7 hour drive to LI from here. (NY is very big!) Hope your friend enjoys learning more about their turtle. :)

Hi Judy--thank you so much for the reply and information, and I will go to the other site to check this salt out. The size of this turtle is probably  3 1/8"  but it still looks like a master to me. Much bigger than the regular table salts. The salt belongs to a friend and they have no idea what they have, so this infor. that you sent will be a big surprise to them and yes I will do some more checking.I live in Gresham, Or. and are you by chance near Long Island? Thank You Empress Judy Sharon j Davis

Hi Sharon,
Are you a member of Facebook? If so, I would suggest joining Open Salt Collectors of the World and posting your question there. Even better if you can add a picture. You probably already know that H&J says maker unknown and that it's 3 1/8" long (individual size, in my opinion). The most recent price guide (2002-03) goes on to say that it is Scarce and valued between $45 and $55. HOWEVER, prices have come down quite a bit, so now it's essentially what a buyer is willing to pay. Hope this helps some!

Hi my name is Sharon and I live in Oregon. I think that I have found a master salt, but I need some help. If anybody has the book 5,000 open salts go to page 187, number 3758. It is a turtle it has some markings on the bottom and I would like to communicate with someone that can help give me a price or any other information.

Excellent, Sabrina. That is where a lot of the "action" is these days. Mary keeps threatening to join us in the 21st century, but ......LOL (she knows I'm just picking on her!).

I have a collection of approximately 750 open salts that belonged to my mother. I am looking for someone to buy the collection. I also have approximately the same amount of spoons to go with the collection. Can you give me any information on how to sell this collection. I am located in Florida.

Hi Sabrina! I don't believe Ed Bowman is selling anymore. MUCH of his collection (and accumulated inventory of his own salts) went to auction. I don't remember exactly when, but thinking within the past year. As you have found, the Bergs' remaining collection (what the family did not wish to keep) has been turned over to a committee and we are listing them on ebay. We have suspended sales for the remainder of 2018, but will start up again after the first of the year, so keep watching!

Are you on Facebook? We have a very active open salt group there, and you're welcome to join. It is Open Salt Collectors of the World. We also have another group called Open Salts: Buy, Sell or Trade. Would love to have you join us!

Hi, I have been collecting salts since the early 1990's and have about 1,625 salts. I used to buy from Ed Bowman often. Is Ed Bowman still selling salts. I used to read Ed Bergs newsletter all the time as well. It was so full of information. I just bought some of his collection on ebay.

Hi Trish - Nina was correct that your salt is French - Made by Vallerysthal - Sometimes they were marked with raised lettering inside a bowl but most times not - At one point they were probably in the $50 to $60 range - but salt prices have dropped quite a bit and the price market is more what a buyer is willing to pay than what an item is shown in the books to be worth -
