A favorite salt among newer-made ones, English maker Jonathan Harris.
I bought a prototype that Linda Kelsey had brought to the San Francisco Open Salt Convention.

Hi everyone. Hope all is well with all my salt friends.
P J, Touch is vital to our wellbeing. I squeeze the breath out of my grandchildren. I'd die if I couldn't. It is as important as air.
Just unpacked this kitty. Should go well with all my little dogs on salts.

Good morning everyone!
I agree with PJ., touch is so important. It’s what I miss so much! I yearn for a hug! When my neighbor comes to check on me, she blows a kiss through her mask! She won’t leave until I do the same. I appreciate it, but I so want one of my sons to be able to come and give me a bear hug!
Virtual hugs to everyone! The best we can do today.

Hi to my Salty Friends...
Hope all is well... And THANK YOU for the Birthday Wishes!!! Just got our first shots yesterday !!! YEA !!! We're on our road to a more normal life !!! Praying for you all too!!! I don't know about you all..but, I'm TIRED of this !!! I want to get TOGETHER with my FRIENDS !!! HUG them... TOUCH them... When I was in nursing...one of the things that was "impressed" on us - was.. Therapeutic TOUCH... and when I went into Midwifery..Boy, oh boy was TOUCH STRESSED !!! People NEED to touch and be touched... I think part of all the "tension" in the world today is from the lack of human touch.

Off my soap box now... I want you all to know... you all are my greatest friends... Love and Hugs to one and all... Pray for one another... Pray for our country !!!

Nancy D. You are allowed to be in a funk. Sometimes missing the love of your life is hard to deal with. Pile on the insanity of our nation and anyone would get into a funk. Sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane is.... salts and salt people.

Lynda, the mood rings that changed color from the heat of your hand were not dichroic, don't know what they were. There are scads of dichroic jewelry, mostly pendents. It seems to have different colors as you turn it around, but it doesn't change color as Neodymium does. Debi, I remember getting some Tiffin Twilight. I had a heavy vase that was purple in daylight or ordinary light bulbs, turned blue under florescent light. Sold it, of course.

Neodymium is the correct name for the type of glass that changes from a pale blue to pale amethyst depending on the light. Nancy V posted a picture of dichroic glass. Alexandrite was Heisey's name for it. Cambridge called it Heatherbloom and I think Tiffin called it Twilight.

Moser Open Salt or Cordial with engraved bird in flight.
Debi I believe you said this glass is often called "DICHRIOC"
I've seen it named "NEODYMIUM" and Ed Bowman called it
"ALEXANDRITE" like the gem stone. Both pictures are of the
same salt. . .It changes color in different lighting.

Still love looking at your salts. My son-in-law is going to be home on the 13th, Finally able to leave Japan. We are not sure where the marines will send him next. Somewhat locally or way across the country to the south. Just hoping he has time to come fix my picture problem on this contraption. I do pray he is stationed here. It would be a Blessing to have them both local.

My salt of the day is Fluted Square by Wetzel in blue.
For those that didn't know, Jane's hubby went back into hospital. Big time UTI. Was getting better then ran a fever and tested + for covid. He is not real sick with it. Just cold like symptoms. Will come home in a week.
Take care everyone. Be well and prosper.

Lynda your gold rimmed salt is the same as mine --- It looks like yours has a medallion in the bottom. I had one like yours at one time but sold it. I have a few with under plates. I just found one a few months back that I think is H&J 2853 that has a lovely cane design cut tub and under plate. Stands to reason that open salts might have plates to keep the spoon from loosing salt on the table.

I did not know that tub had an underplate. They look good together. Judy, is this pedestal the same as yours? I love your white/pink silver overlay. Never saw one like that either.

I'm in Mansfield Texas. It is located south of Arlington between Dallas and Fort Worth.

After I had foundation problems at the first house I owned in Arlington; one of the engineers at the office told me that in this part of Texas the soil in clay and expands when it gets wet then contracts when it is dry. So the dirt is either sticky and like glue when wet or hard as a rock and cracking open when it is real dry. That is hard on the slab foundations. He said here if you haven't had foundation problems you well. Getting RAM JACK to level the foundation is next on my to-do list. The foundation heaved and the back of it sunk about an inch when I had a water leak in the slab in 2018. Had to have the whole house replumbed and let the ground dry out under the house for the past two years. Always something to eat up me open salt budget!

My salt of the day is a small Diamond CUT tub with an under-plate. It was one of the first salts in my collection.

2021 started off with a bang ... My daughter's furnace through the fan through the coil and needs repairs/replacement. Because of the weather her work has been backed up to Tuesday. A couple of days later the outside main water line from the street into the house at my house broke, (Old PBC pipe crackling from the cold.) and I am having to have the whole water line replaced. The plumbing company couldn't get to me right away so they turned the water off Saturday to avoid water damage to the house foundation. Sunday the owners son came out and dug out the spot where it is leaking and put in a quick temporary repair. Supposed to have a trench dug from the front of the house to the water meter at the street today. They have to tunnel under two sidewalks and through tree roots in the front yard. Tomorrow they will put in the new pipes and values. My neighbor has to have a pipe repair at the meter last week. And a neighbor across the street had to have their whole line replaced a few years ago. Pipes breaking and foundation problems are common here because of the expansive soil in this area of Texas.

Good afternoon. I would say, we are not OK today. I have to admit being somewhat quarantined has not bothered me much. I like being home. What has bothered me is the hatred out there. That I don't understand.
I'm not good at this time in life at dealing with more than one problem at a time. My car is my problem right now.
I hope we all keep coming here and talking and sharing. It is a big joyful part of my life and I miss you guys when you arn't here. I think we need to all look at the beauty we still have in our lives. Try to keep your hearts light and filled with laughter. I'm with Mary, going to ask God to please help this poor nation and it's people.
I think as a group we are very lucky. We all have roofs our our heads, food to eat, love in our lives and salts on the shelf.
Nancy V. You are dearly loved, by your family and your friends. I so enjoy our interaction. I think the Serenity prayer says it all. God, give me the strength to change what I can, accept what I can't and to know the differance. I don't like you panicking. You need laughter. Have you ever watched the Gram Norton show? Please Google it and watch it. Put a chucks in your chair cause you will laugh so hard you'll pee you pants.
Susie P. Cry all you want. It helps the frustration of not being able to change things for your Dad. He is being cared for and that in itself is a blessing. This getting old really is difficult on everyone. But it is part of life. He must have been a wonderful guy as he raised a lovely lady. All you can do is give him love and remember he is not the one suffering. You are. As long as he's not in pain or aware of his illness, he is in good shape. Not to you of course but to him.
Oh, those 2 salts, killer fantastic. I regret not getting one when I had the chance. Ce La vive.
I guess all I ask is that all of you come here. Share your feelings and your salts. Don't go away.

Yes, I totally understand how Debi feels, how we all feel, and I feel the stress and sadness as well....my dad continues to decline, I had to tell him Mom died 11 years ago, and yes, you do have another daughter who is still alive- he didn’t remember either, so spent the morning bawling my eyes out....he is having more bad days than good, and still can’t go in to see him, just window visits, which are hard. He did get his first Covid vaccine Monday, hurrah!!

It does make me happy to come here, to visit with you all, to share stories AND of course salts! We make each other stronger!

I think we can all understand and feel the stress Mary describes. The twin pressures of the political situation and the covid virus threat can stress out the strongest natures. I have had three panic attacks trying to get through a door with my walker, and I've never had a panic attack before in my life! I think it's because of the overall stress right now.
One of the best ways I find to cope is to escape into reading a good book, watching a good movie, and talking to someone who understands. Here we can't exactly talk to one another, but it's the next best thing. Best wishes and prayers to all of you.

I know this is not what we know or can understand. I have to pray and believe God will once again regain control and life will be much quieter and easier. Too much stress from a very divided political scene with great hatred being constantly voiced from both sides. Add our isolation and fear because of an uncontrollable virus, and wrong actions are being taken. I am praying for my Country. I know it will never be the way it used to be. We are too far down the road for that, I just pray for some quiet in hearts and actions. I also know that I need a safe place and that this board and the world site are my go to places. I need to see your beauties and to read and feel your excitement. I need to get lost in your knowledge and compassion for our salts. Please continue to come to this safe place and get lost in our hobby. For me, but most importantly for you. I love you all and may God find a way to Bless us and keep our country safe from itself.

Nancy, Libbie says thank you? She doesn’t meow—she honks!! Love your cut salts, very elegant.

Lynda, the sheer number of your salts amazes me. So many gorgeous ones.

Yes Nancy V. Those salts are stunning. I don't have any like them. And nope, no rattles, I'm glad to say.
Jan, I just adore Libby's little face. She is one pretty kitty.

Jan, those ears are harder to believe than the rounded ones. lol
Lynda, do those salts rattle when you turn over in bed? Also lol

The blue boat salt isn't really unique because I have a red one just like it. I think I've seen another one posted on this site too, don't remember the color. But they are cut glass and beautiful.

Hi everybody. Happy Sunday morning to you all. Hope you all are feeling good or better as the case may be. Mary, hope Albert is doing better. Jane,I hope your husband is better and home soon.
Nancy D, they have introduced some very sweet new types of kitties. The Munchkin has short legs. This little guy looks like one except for those ears. I love those ears. I would like a couple of Spinx cats with no hair. They should be O K with my allergies. But that litter box????? How does everyone deal with that?????

Good morning everyone. New day, new year. AND I am so depressed. Figures. They decided to total my car. Too much damage for worth of car. I only have 65,000 miles on it and engine is great. I have no idea what to do. Want to cry but it would do no good so I won't bother.
As far as salts go. I don't have any stoves or the maple barrel on a sled. They must be very rare?
My SALT OF THE DAY little straw hats to go with Joan's stove.
Have a nice day hopefully with family. With the vaccine now being given, life might return to normal.

What a color display, Lynda! I love those little jewels.

P.J. As I understand it from my medical advisor (my daughter) the first shot gives only partial immunity, the second much more. The vaccine should give good protection from illness if you contact the virus though you can still carry it and transmit it to others--the reason to continue to wear masks and practice social distancing. My upper arm is a little sore, no other symptoms. This vaccine is described as an immune system booster, no virus in it. People who felt ill from earlier vaccinations with killed or weakened viruses don't need to fear this one. I hope a high percentage of people take the shots.

   Good morning everyone.
It has been a bad year, a sad year. People are still dieing because of covid. My daughter is the body release co-ordination for Shands Hospital in Gainesville. And people are still dieing of stress illness' by covid. They don't do autopsys on covid patients unless there may be foul play. I'm hoping the vaccine is our answer to the pandemic. I also hope we've learned from this and are better prepared in the future.
MY SALT OF THE DAY. I am madly in love with this color blue on a salt. It enchants me.

Nancy D., That kitty is talking my life right now
Mary, that is such a sweet little enamel salt. The decoration is very pretty. I wonder if you've heard anything about Albert? I'm thinking you are on your way to get him and we'll hear from you shortly. At least I hope so.
Nancy V and P J, WOW, injections already!!! Fantastic. P J, with all your amenities, I want to live with you!
Jan, my poor sweet salt sister. I know you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. But you are on the downhill slope.

Exciting news, PJ and Nancy. I did it the hard way—but still don’t feel well enough to leave the house. Going on 4 weeks now. Absolutely no clue how I got the virus, but it is rampant in Iowa and in my county. Please everyone, don’t let your guard down for a second. IT CAN GET IN THROUGH YOUR EYES TOO.

Lovely salt, Mary. I'm in a totally independent living senior apartment complex. All activities here have been cut off, but we haven't been locked in, can come and go as we please. We are scheduled to get our covid vaccinations tomorrow, all residents and staff. We will still need to be masked and distanced from others since we could still carry the virus and transmit it to others, but the vaccine wold protect us from illness. I'm surprised and excited to have it offered so soon.
