Jan, I just looked it up and saw footage of the destruction. I've never heard of a derecho either, but I did hear of straight line winds. So glad you are safe.

So sorry to see the damage. The winds sound like what we experienced in the. NJ/NY area.
Glad you came out well, Jan. Still, after more than a week, many in our town are without power. Our library dedicated 2 parking spots equipped with chargers so people could come & charge phones & pads. Wild times!

I am smack in the center of the hump in eastern Iowa, about 20 minutes from the Mississippi River. The smushed building is the neighbor’s garage; they also had trees land on the house, putting quite a sag in the roof. Still lots of power outages and most cell service is spotty.

Fun kitties and cool salts; great start to the day. We got absolutely hammered by storms yesterday. Power was out about 18 hours, phones are still messed up and just got internet back. My house is fine but lots of my trees are not. Next door neighbors are really in a mess, among many others in the area. Roofs gone, garages smushed—on and on. But People are fine, thankfully!!

They are both lovely, Lynda. I'll leave the labeling to those who know more about lacies.

Pretty salt Jane. Like Jan, loving the blue. Power is back on and we are very thankful that our generator hung in there. Service company due out next week. Had to take the puppies to the groomer today and was amazed to see how extensive the damage is just a few streets over from us. Nancy and I were both very lucky. So many still without power. Passed one house that had a huge tree down that crushed two cars in the driveway. Really need to count my blessings...

Was listening to our local radio station this morning (cable is also out) and it seems our area was harder hit by the storm than we realized. They recorded we had 110 mile winds, trees and power lines down all over, over 300,000 without power, and our electric company says it will be 5-7 days before they can get everyone restored. We have not been out of the house, except to look up and down our block, but it sounds like our town was hit particularly hard as they said Governor Murphy plans to visit us to survey the damage. Had to call the company that services our generator this morning as it seems to be running on only half power with lights flickering on and off. Couldn't get through to them as their mail box was full. Praying that it doesn't go out all together.

Have you in my thoughts and prayers Nancy as the storm is headed your way. We were lucky and made it through with minimal damage here in Ocean County, NJ, but had a couple of tornadoes touch down not too far from us. Jim's vegetable garden is wiped out. Tomato and pepper plants flat on the ground under large tree branches. We fared much better than some of our neighbors. Neighbor to our left had two huge trees come down in his side yard, taking out over twelve foot of his wrought iron fence and just missing his house. No electricity for the past seven hours and the electric company is not giving an estimated time for it coming back on. Thank goodness we have a generator or we would be without electricity and water (our area has wells powered by electric). Being without water is the worst and why we got a generator when we moved here.

Good morning everyone. Nancy D, can't believe that storm picked up force. I'll be thinking of you and hoping it just fizzles out. I can't tell you how many hurricanes we've been thru down here. My big worry is losing electricity. No airconditioning would send me into oblivion. The humidity is just too much. And yes, the old bones really ache when we are going to get big time rain. Right now bright and sunny, with a nice breeze. The breeze is unusual.
Hope all are doing as good as you can. Please stay safe. I think I'm going to be saying a bunch of prayers for y'all. I really hate for you guys to be in the line of fire. Love you all.

Thanks everyone for your support. Jane I feel your pain, my shoulder is giving me grief and my foot is so swollen. Just put on compression sock. I always have water containers by my side and my neighbor freezes little water bottles so I can take them out when I get low on water. Hot & humid now, expecting the rain sometime around 1 p.m. Tornado warnings all around, but they usually skip my area.
Jan, the Newsletter is definitely worth subscribing to. Kent & Mary do a great job. Lots of salt photos and information. I print mine out and save them in a file box. Good source later on.

My daughter in law is bringing me fruit from Sam's today. Guess I'll have her leave it on the sidewalk. She tested negative for the virus and kids have no symptoms. Richie still feels just a head cold. Fingers crossed. He is doing Dr apt via the computer. We live in strange times.

Thank you guys. It feels so weird. The virus and how the medical community deal with it is so flowing. Changes from week to week. We know so little. Richie says he's going to get rich selling his blood. The boob. He figures by tomorrow he'll be climbing the walls so, the lawn is getting mowed, tree stumps getting dug up. He just feels like he has a cold. If it was'nt Covid, he'd be at work.

Well, good morning everyone. Nancy D, love the kitten. You know, cops have so many threats out there. Big and small. My son is positive for Covid-19. Hasn't felt well since last Thursday but Monday lost all sense of taste and smell. He pretty much knew he was positive. I have'nt seen him for about 3 weeks so I'm clear. The care has changed big time. Totally depends how sick you are. His wife is nurse supervisor so she is being tested before going back to work. He's locked in his room. Which the kids are totally having a ball with. They torment him as much as possible. But no search for where he got it and no testing the kids unless they show symptoms. Richie is'nt very sick, feels just like a head cold he says and that Q-tip up your nose, hurts. Damn strange world.
  Love you all.

Morning everyone. Been so long since I have paid much attention to the news, I did not know Grumpy was gone, or did she pass some time ago and my brain stored the information too deep in a recess...
When I had the roof put on the roofer asked me to protect my salts because of the banging and turmoil of removing the old one and putting the new one on. I did and that became a problem because I had to totally empty one cabinet. I did not put things back in place right away and sat there looking at the empty shelves....... Began filling them up with new salts. Crazy collecting thinking I do believe. And at its max..
Took down all of Bob's beer steins. Never put them back. Never bought any more. Nuts, I be salt nuts...

They put new windows in our old apartment. We had to pack up a lot. And they still broke my Moon and Star pedestal. Then when we had to move last summer we started the same day they said they weren't giving us a new lease. It's a good thing, too, because it was all we could do to finish everything in 60 days.

May be overly cautious- not so much worried about the salts, but the bottles are another story.....tall, etc., my sister in law just got new windows and said they were banging and yanking to get the old ones out....but if one bottle goes think it will be a domino effect.....

Susie, just thought of this. I know you have alot of art glass but if you have individuals... I discovered this late in my packing or I would have been done in a N Y minute. Egg crates. I packed a couple hundred in the cardboard....let me snap a picture. Your perfume stoppers would fit too. The larger priorty mail box fits them perfect. Also the Styrofoam egg crates would work with some bad ding or tissue paper over the top of them and taped shut.

Susie, I packed all my salts in flat rate mail boxes and sent them ahead to my daughter when I moved from Hawaii to Texas. She stacked them in a closet until I got into my apartment. I used lots or bubble wrap and some packing peanuts, but I broke a few, mostly pedestal salts that snapped their stems. I got a little too hurried ai think as I packed hundreds. So be careful to put plenty of support on any glass stems.

Have not gone out on the pontoon boat as yet. Jessica and family have and for a 1993 boat it is running pretty good. Being Central Fl, the Suwannee and Santa fee rivers are right here. Good one with the cat catching the red dot, Nancy D. My cat loves to try to catch the laser dot. My sister gave me one that runs automatically so I don't have to sit there pressing the little laser pointer until my wrist gives out.

Hot in Northeast Texas too. I wish they wouldn't give it this way: 96 but feels like 104. I don't want to know what it feels like in our humid climate.

Termites - yikes! Hi, everyone. Yes, I just had to have that kitty. It reminds me of Angel Mei Li and Kaylin. Off to clean the bathroom floor. It only took me two weeks to clean in there.

Good morning everyone. I’m feeling a bit wilted from the heat & humidity. And apparently I have a termite problem in the basement. My aide took photos.
PJ, so happy to hear news of you and Olen. Glad you are staying safe despite the difficulties.
Hang in there gang!

Hi All... YES.. We DO have ARMED Guards at all the entrances to our Retirement Community !!! That's me in my little scooter... I have to wear a "sun suit"... and head covering... I'm apparently taking a med that makes me very sensitive to the sun ???? Sooo I have to cover up completely !!! FUN...especially in our 100+ degree days...

Mary...Olen has been using a CPAP for years...It's helped him greatly !!! He also uses a "So-Clean" every day to keep the tubes and mask clean... helps to not have to clean everything every day... what a mess !!! I wish you as much success as he has had !!!

This "second wave" of COVID seems to be worse than the first... everyone PLEASE wear your mask... and PLEASE keep safe !!!
HUGS and BLESSINGS !!!! PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY !!!

Thankfully not the main salad bowl, but individual size.....
Oh Jane, I have never seen that kitty. So sweet and just the right coloring.
Pretty much a question I have been asking myself lately Nancy D.
Not sure what today will be, have been basically napping for a long time, but last night I registered a good bit over 9 hours and with my CPAP. Today will be interesting......

   Good morning everyone.
Jane, Love your kitty. How unique.
I still feel like poop. Darn sinuses.
Kids still here. They take good care of me. Sweet babies.
Stay safe, wash your hands. I'm sure It is a pain to hear me say that all the time. The virus is encapsulated with a thin layer of fat. Hand washing in hot H2O melts the fat and kills the virus. So between hand washing and masks (social distancing), my friends can stay safe. We are living in a different and strange world.

Good morning everyone. Hope this day brings good things your way.
Love the blue stained Debi, Thought my heart is with the pure cobalts. It is interesting and different.
I agree the 5" is a bit big, but they are beautiful and Susie you have no idea how many times I have received something very small when it looked so big in the pictures. And the worst is when I receive a salad bowl......

My blue stained salt might have been done experimentally, or someone decided to spiffy up a clear glass salt they had. But I don't know what they would have used to make it permanent. It's not just a paint that flakes off but it doesn't exactly look like a professional job either. Love it anyway.

Susie: 5" does seem a bit large even for one of those boat or oval pedestals. Sweetmeats is a term used for smaller dishes. I think that's just an old term for candy dishes.

PJ, my senior independent living facility in Plano, TX has also tightened the rules here, no family or other visitors allowed in but we don't have guards, just a front desk with check in procedures for aides, therapists and such. I appreciate their efforts to keep us safe--no virus cases so far.
the number of cases in the surrounding area is still growing.

Lynda, thanks for letting me know yours is green too. the angle in your group photo made it hard to tell. I said French because that's in the description in H&J. Many new sources of information have been discovered since that book was published. Heacock published several corrections, but I haven't explored those.

Debi, could someone have added stain to your pedestal below? Or it might have been done experimentally. It may be one of a kind. And it's lovely.

Gosh Susie P, I still think that's a salt. I'm thinking 4" with that type bowl is acceptable. I saw the blue one you got. Both are beautiful.
Good morning everybody. Kitty cat says mouse for breakfast. Anyone got a recipe?
Everybody stay safe. PJ...armed guards... that is a bit much to me. Scary even. But you are safe. The way things are going, maybe not such a bad idea. You won't have rioters or louters.

I bought 4 salts, said they were masters; i did not ask measurements, hmmm!

These two are gorgeous but a bit large!!!! 5 inches long on the bowl..... what purpose do you think these had?

I have another salt that has blue stain on it. It's just like my cobalt salt except clear with blue stain. Anyone else have salt with blue stain on it? I don't think there's very many of them.

Hi there PJ. Glad to hear you and Olen are doing well. I wish my salt was a Daum but it's not. Just another of that type of Czech salts. I'm not saying every one out there is Czech though. You know how companies and countries copied each other. Nancy V and Lynda's are shown on that page. So is the first round one I posted. My other three are not on that page so maybe they were made elsewhere, but it's definitely not a Daum. Maybe someday I'll get one but I'm not exactly shopping right now. Saw a gorgeous one with violets online when I was looking for pictures of Daums for H&J 1-34, but the price tag is $2500. Don't think so!

Debi.... Your #25198 looks similar to my Daum Nancy??? Just saying??? Weird??? Olen and I are still on "lock down"... Literally !!! We have ARMED GUARDS at every entrance to this place...but with 450 residences... NO ONE has been sick for the past 3 months !!! We lost ONE independent living resident... and the "normal amount" of health care residents... the staff are really taking extreme care of us... we all HATE the isolation but... LOVE that we are all healthy... anyway...here's a photo of my Daums...
