Lynda, forgot to thank you for your comment on the "duckie" and milifiori. I thought the duck was a pelican, maybe? It fits in with some of my other fun animal dishes. And the mili has a backstory, but it's too long to go into here.

Thanks Don. We had such a bad winter for collecting, between bad weather, and shows that didn't have anything good, that I might have went a little overboard. But,I don't regret any of them. I was amazed at how many nice ones I had to pick from, that doesn't happen often.

Linda H., That's quite a "HAUL" for a weekend!! With all the salts I have, I would have bought most of them myself! I found 7 that I didn't have, at a Flea Market last Wednesday( which still AMAZES me after 40-some years of collecting open salts!)

Ok, last one for today. this is a hinged box on 3 feet on little red balls, All over enameling, and a spoon that matches. I thought maybe it was a snuff box, but it's gorgeous, the picture doesn't do it justice

I'd had my eye on this one for a while, I finally caved in and bought it. The bowl is made of stone, maybe Jadite? its marked sterling and something else that's too small to make out.

Here's a quick look at my loot from the antique / flea market Friday and Saturday.
Mary, I'm so glad you went to your antique show, bet you had a great time. Jane, the last 5 or 6 shows we've been at were duds, not to mention iffy weather. This time we had sprinkles and some wind, but was fun.

Sorry I missed your Birthday, Mary! Glad it went well. I haven't had the computer on for 3 days, been BUSY! Friday and Saturday was the local Fire Department's annual Fish Fry, and our church volunteers to handle all the drinks(my hands have hardly "thawed out" from getting cans out of ICE WATER!) We enjoy doing it for them! Took a "bunch" of Intaglios in holders photos, earlier this week, but haven't found time to do anything with them(don't even have them all back on the shelves!)

Some of you may remember that many moons ago I used to do an antique and collectibles show the second Wednesday of the month - I have not been able to do the show for almost 2 years - They changed it to Saturday and I went today - The promoter gave me my old table back and so I was in the line of the top sellers - I have never been one - but they like me - lol lol - I sold one salt and bought a gadzillion pieces of jewelry and misc. other items - One salt is the one above - I cleaned it and it is even more stunning - Pairpoint - I gotta tell you - I am in pain up to my elbows and then even a little past that - But emotionally and mentally I am a happy camper - Already paid for my table next month and will take a variety of things - Today was solely salts and only silvers - My table was beautiful anyway - Okay - I go see if I can shovel another handful of pills down me and if not - then my last chocolate covered strawberry - Yea - It was soooo worth it!!!!

Thanks to everyone for the Birthday wishes and also for helping me deal with the fear I had over Fat Albert - I was given the best Birthday present yesterday!!!

Happy Birthday Little Sis and am glad to hear Jim is recovering nicely - Hope you are having a good time cooking and eating in your new kitchen and adjoining areas!!

P.J. - Olen is in my prayers and you also. Bob had his knee replacement in his late 70's and it was a great success - But ya gotta do what you are told and nothing they tell you not to do - I have a feeling Olen is very much into self control and will do well -

Janelle - Love you dearly and glad our Birthdays brought you back to the board - Been thinking about you lately but seen to have trouble with my communication skills recently - BUT I am going to write you personally -

Jane your little flower bowl is so pretty - Thanks for sharing !!

So the trip to the vet was a good thing. Good decission Mary. Sometimes it is so hard to decide what to do. Diabetes in humans is a challenge but in a kitty... wow. That is a challenge.
Mary, the dog salts..... oh my, so beautiful and unique. Very Deco. I love them a lot. I am a glass girl but those 2 porcelains, elegant and sexy. You have great taste.
Got a note from Jan,her hip is improving and she may be able to bare weight soon..A kitty adopted her. Just showed up on her door step. I think God sent her something to love to heal her broken heart. I Just love God, He is so sweet.

Just heard from Mary ; she asked that I tell you all Albert is home which is Good News! Mary has to decrease the amount of insulin she gives him, he got a antibiotic shot for his UTI, his pancreas has some issues but something they will just keep a close eye on! So I think all things that can be watched and adjusted, that is my take on it!

Mary is exhausted and going to rest! The emotional roller coaster takes it out of you!

Hello, Hello, Hello - Thanks ladies for checking in - I am so confused on what to do -I just want to call the vet and cancel the appointment - But at the same time I keep thinking and telling myself that we have to have a urine test - I know by looking at him and his actions last night that he is not ready and then I tell myself that is what I want to see -- Going to the vets could stress him out more than his peeing problem - Do I take him and chance a heavy feline stress attack - or just leave him alone for a couple of days and see how he does -- I have to figure out what is best for him - NOT for me - and do so within the next 3 or 4 hours --

Thanks Judy - I have gotten some good news: After I had my talk with him, he tried real hard to pee within the boundaries of the sop em up pads. I am going to see what he does this morning. He is still hiding under the desk. I feel I was being shown that it is not time to say good bye - I hope the vet agrees!!

I do so envy your ability to do such in depth research. But perhaps just a bit more than that- your ability to save them somewhere on your computer and be able to pull up whatever you want at a moments notice.

I want to post some intaglios and some of my new silver pieces, but am feeling guilty because I have so many silvers left to polish and price for this Saturday - Well maybe I will go find one - or two .. Really some fantastic pieces --

Thank you all - We see the vet tomorrow at 10:30 - I had a little love session with him and I told him that I would not say good bye too soon - I know how to clean up pee - And that I would not wait too long if and when his body told the vet he was in trouble - Been crying most of the day - I have over the years learned to walk in fear and faith at the same time - He is God's kitty right now and whatever is going to happen has already been set - I will just learn about it tomorrow - But saying prayers and getting prayers helps me to stay more in the faith - Love you all -

Prayers for strength are coming his way--

Carolyn had asked about Brenda's hubby so I wrote her and am going to post her response because there may be others here that did not get a current update - Here tis and good news it am -

He gets better every day, though in HIS mind, it's not fast enough! He's walking, running, playing baseball and happily driving the RV. To me, the progress is truly amazing, but I have to remind him sometimes--he's so active that he just wants to be 100% and he pushes himself too much at times. We were truly blessed that he wasn't paralyzed.

Thanks Lynda - Seems everyone on the board is getting older ---- er I mean having some problems in our lives - I am not functioning very good and an so far behind in everything I could scream - So instead of doing anything productive I worked a 300 piece Charles Wysocki jigsaw puzzle - Now I am going to eat something that isn't good for me. I am contemplating giving Albert his insulin right at 7:00 and be in bed by 7:15 - Not sure tomorrow will be better - or even different - But I know when I wake up it will today and not yesterday or tomorrow -- Heavy writing there - Me thinks more Pepsi is in demand here ---

Remarkable how certain days need to be tossed out and started over. Joan has had more than her share of that stuff.
We have a few beautiful ladies who are hurting and I worry about them. Mary, you are one tough lady. I've had a diff time of lately. Reminding myself of you helped get me thru. I'm not so brave. You have more brave in you, amazing.
Jane feel better. I kiss your Boo boos. You need to find a less painful way to be a holy roller.

Well, I've had one of those days. Grand daughter fell at work last nite and has a huge gash on her forehead. At lunch I went to use my blender, and it is a goner. Then tried the chopper, and it died too. We're getting the camper ready this afternoon, and there were three things that needed fixed on it. Maybe I should just go to bed early, and hope tomarrow is better.lol

Judy, Judy, Judy, Thank you again for much needed and totally enjoyed info. I finally got around to writing down all the info on the Newcastles. Got both the Thistle info and Newcastle in H & J, on their pages. I am now reading the Swanboat info. Could you please tell me the difference between the 4 makers. Mosaic made it 1st. Was the ribbon or strap plain? Then you said the St Clair difference was the strap but the vaseline pic says Gibson. Which straps have lines and which straps are plain? I do so appreciate your info. It makes the salts so much more real. Thank you.

Spoke to Jane last night and she is doing better in my estimation for what she went through - Dang it was a head on drop to her knees - SCARY!!!

My moment of lessened pain has vanished again - I am tired of the seesaw ride - Almost accepting that I will always be in pain and have difficulty walking - Better than a break only to have it taken away -

Nancy D - Let us know you are doing better and have some help coming in - As with everyone here on the board - prayers have not stopped -

Thanks everyone. I'm really feeling much better today. The hard things are getting on and off of the toilet and in and out of the car. I even managed to get in and out of the tub to have a hot soak. I'm going to the chiropractor tomorrow to see if he can work out some of the soreness and stiffness.

Oh Jane, so sorry that you are now a part of the ever growing "in pain" salt collector group. Speaking of which...Mary and Nancy D. I've been keeping you both in my prayers, hope you are feeling better, and that you will check in soon and let us know how you are doing.

Judy, Happy to see you posting again. We missed you and all the wonderful information you always provide.

Janelle, Hope all is well with you too! Haven't seen you post lately.

Crap Jane! At least no real injuries that would take a long time to heal. Chipped tooth though, ouch! I bruise easily and would be black and blue then yellow and green for weeks. How yours can be clearing up so fast is a mystery to me. Take it slow for a few days.

I fell yesterday at a church yard sale. The paving was just a little higher than the yard. Chipped tooth, scraped face, banged up knee, and bruised hand and "boob". Several people stopped. They wouldn't let me get up until they checked me out and even offered to call am ambulance. Then they picked me up and one woman walked me back to the car. Feeling a little better today. Some of the black and blue is going away, and my knee is not as stiff. Getting old is so much fun! At least I hadn't bought anything breakable. And it could have been so much worse.

Judy: I was a holdout for a long time but finally gave in and switched to Google Chrome. So many websites I use said Internet Explorer wouldn't work well. I've used it for about a month now and am very pleased.

Howdy Dabi... It is hard to Id most of the common/everyday tableware. I found the square one while I was reorganizing my computer files.

I am going to have to buy a new computer or have extensive updates on the IMac I have now. Sooooo, I'm trying to back up most things on an external hard drive. Right now I can't use Safari for much on the internet and Mail doesn't work at all. I'm lucky I can still access your site.

The Must-do repair work on the house because of the water damage is done. And, replacing the flooring the second time because of the manufacturer's production mistakes is done. I hope to have a new/better email and web browser in about a month.

Judy: The problem with trying to identify plain square salts is that catalogs rarely show the bottom design if there is one. European catalogs did a better job on that than American catalogs.

Just takes identifying a small square salt to make me happy.

Heisey Colonial Panel circa 1900-1918
1 1/2" square and 1" high.

I have about a dozen of the squares shown in H&J and 12 of Ed Berg's salts listed in "A View from the Salt Box no. 38" Also have a bunch of unidentified dishes. It has been a work in progress for years and I love being able to put one in a drawer with other id'ed salts.

Going to answer my quiz questions and post a few pictures...Then ????

4 companies made the swan boat:
Mosaic Glass Co. - 1892 to 1894 (The only salt the company made. Made in clear.)
St Clair - The difference between this salt and the orginal are lines/groves in the stap.
Bittersweet had FENTON produce the salt for them in 10-12 colors. - this is the amberrina salt marks I pictured earlier.
Gibson - 1976 to 2006. They are marked with a "G" over "G" and a DOT on the side.

Debi it would probably be better to say the company that had the piece manufactured is the maker. I thought putting Fenton in the question would start more conversation as most folks likely don't know about the company that commissioned Fenton. Looks like a lot of our folks are away right now...Too bad we can't get rid of the spammers!

Judy: I didn't remember that it was marked by Fenton but I went to look at mine and it's in the bottom of the bowl. The other mark is on the bottom. So I guess Fenton did actually make an open salt but it was for another company. That's what gets confusing about these contempory salts. Do you count who actually made it, or is it the company that owns the mold and has it made? Rosso owned many molds but did not make their own glass. It was made by Mosser and Summit. Ed Bowman's molds were pressed by other companies but we call them EE or Bowman salts. Then Mosser owned molds and made the salts so those are true Mosser salts.

Debi you are Soooo smart. It is a trick. The amberina swan is one made by Fenton for another company. It is marked for both ... The unnamed maker's mark is on the bottom and the Fenton "F" mark is in the inside of the bowl. Let's see how many others know about the trickery.

Judy: I think you are missing a company name in your list. Fenton made it for the company, but it's not signed Fenton, it's signed with the other company name. So I guess it's sort of a trick question.

SWANBOAT Salt and/or Nut Dish – I think we have all seen this salt for sale and in collections. But, what is known about it?

I’ve pictured four with different finishes from my collection. They are 4 ż” long, 1 5/8” wide and 2 11/16” high.

I have put together some information on them and started to just post it here with pictures, but I thought maybe a quiz would be funůSo here goes:

1. How many companies produced this salt?
(A) 1
(B) 2
(C) 3
(D) 4

2. Which company(s) made iT?
     (A) Mosaic Glass Co.
     (B) St Clair Co.
     (C) Fenton
     (D) Gibson
     (E) All of the above

Good morning and thanks for the well wishes -
Soooo I pretty much bought a lot, eBay and Amazon - My caregivers just laugh at the incoming boxes - I, on the other hand - am realizing I am really getting close to spending money I shouldn't and also that incoming boxes do not negate the pain - But HECK - I am getting some really pretty salts - lol lol Had to take a momentary break from my "friends" in France and move to England for a bit - Do not usually buy boxed sets as I think they should stay together - But this one is missing two original spoons and cheap replacements added - so is okay --LONDON 1898
Okay have to go get dressed - caregiver here soon - Have a great day everyone - I'm pretty sure I am really back this time and not just stopping by - I know - scary thought ----

Well Don is right- Jane is the masteress (didn't want to refer to her as a mistress) of intaglios -in or out of holders - But one or two of us might just have one she doesn't and then she can drool over ours while we drool over hers - Will certainly be a beautiful month for us all -

I have not been on the board for a while as I got "gifted" another pain area -both knees - Have not been in much of a talking mood s the pain has been and still is 24/7 - I thought I was facing surgery and have ordered a walker than lets me go in any direction without lifting it - and it will convert to a wheelchair - I went to see an orthopedic doctor that specializes in knees - He had my x-rays that were taken when I had gone to the ER - Told me there was nothing he could do to help me - But He Did - He did not just leave the room - he sat down on his stool and started to explain why it was my fibro kicking in strong - As he talked I realized he was right and so Tuesday I go see my pain management people and we will have to talk about it - I knew I had fibro but never thought I HAD fibro to any extent - Well I do and I can see where it is effecting other parts - pieces and areas - I am still in great pain but knowing what is wrong and that there is help and it does not include surgery has certainly lifted my spirits - So - Long story short - My usual harassment and dumb pictures will begin again tomorrow and I certainly do not as usual plan to give any information about my salts or join in actual salt conversations - Nothing has changed there - I am not a researcher - If I should at any point become one - You all will be the first I shall practice on - Hugs and loves to all -
