My haul from the salt meeting last weekend - I be walking on air - Have wanted the green one for a zillion years and anything in that gorgeous blue for two zillion years - Just decided now was the time - Cats may have to eat nothing but cheap dry food for a year or two - Just kidding furry guys - only for six months -- Yes! They do read the board --

Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when the big arrived - I thought I had the matching individual - but the little one is close enough in decorations - I never thought I would ever find a master - In any decoration - I be real happy --

I saw one with green enamel once in an auction house auction sold with several other patterns in blue - some I already had, and I think the lot of 5 went for around $750 or $800. This is the first time I've seen it in blue. I was so lucky to find it. Can't believe I will have 10 different ones now. And it was right here in Southfield, MI, just a couple cities away. I will NOT get interested in the red or green! Couldn't afford it! LOL

Oh My Gosh! Never thought it would happen but just found what I'm pretty sure is the last one of the Georg Jensen salts in this style with the cobalt enamel. Pretty sure this must be the most elusive pattern - Lily of the Valley. First time I ever saw this in blue! I am beyond happy to have it! Now I have to buy the matching spoon. When I have them all together I'll post all 10 of them. Yippee!

My Mother collected salt dips for 30+ years prior to her passing in 1990. And for 29 years subsequent, her 200+ pieces have rested comfortably in several boxes in my attic. It's time for them to go to a salt dip fan/ collector. If any of ya'll are in the Virginia for shows or travel, let me know and we'll perhaps make a deal. Not looking to gouge anyone, but not gonna throw em away or gift; make me a fair offer on the lot, and ya got em all. Predominantly glass with a few porcelain/china. Small and large.

I learned my expensive lesson on bidding on salts in auction houses. I won one salt in the last Evans auction. My $60 winning bid was immediately increased to $70.20 with the buyer's premium, and packing and postage added another $29-something. So one $60 salt cost over $100. And that was with in house packing at Evans. I think when I read Whitley's terms last time around with Elaine's salts, you have to arrange for someone from a shipping service to go there, collect your wins, and ship them to you. That's got to be even more expensive. Think I'll just drool and refrain from bidding. Only way to just pay what you bid (plus premium) is to be there and pick up yourself.

There are so many ways glass and salts were made, yet few people ask how it was made, they always ask who made it and when. I was of the latter group and focused more on identification instead of process. I know there's free blown glass, 2 and 3 part molds, glass blown into molds, and various ways of pressing glass, but I don't really care about how.

Linda H: "Sofa" salts would be a good topic although there might not be a great deal of those in contributor's collections either. We have an entire Gallery page of Lacy salts and anyone, at any time can email me pictures mimicking the three views shown in the Neal book to be added to that Gallery page.

Jane: How wonderful that you found a Gillinder CENTENNIAL, an Adams LIBERTY BELL, and what is that gorgeous blue one? You did well!

I was trying to clean the bathroom and do laundry today. We went to pick up some goose food. Then Phil said why don't we go across the river to Columbia and go through the junk antique market in the warehouse. So we did. It is so cold and windy here, and it was frigid in the warehouse, but it was well worth going!

Carolyn: Thanks for the topic suggestions but I'm not sure the few people who contribute know exactly what the blown over and cracked off type are. I don't know that I know exactly what they are either, except they are pretty old and (I think) predate Lacies. As far as Stiegel types, I bet contributors don't have that many. Personally, I have only four of them. I try to think of topics that are broad enough that we all have several or dozens of, not just a couple.

Hi all, Whitley Auctions, Florida, is selling Elaine Cooper's salts. "Worth Their Salt: The Open Salts Collection of Elaine Cooper" The first group are for sale on January 19th and contain the best items from her collection. Many of the items for sale are in her book, Daulton Open Salts. I do not know when they will sell the remaining salts. Enjoy!

Hi - just dropping in to say how very much I enjoy the 'salty' enthusiasm of this group and the camaraderie. I thought of a few topics which may have been done before (my memory, unfortunately, has been waving good-by). Have you done 'blown over and cracked off' or stiegel type? The image shows some blown over and cracked off salts in various 'clear' glass colors. Each salt was probably manufactured at a different site.

Brenda, do you have an update on Craig? He continues to be in my prayers.

I just finished returning my curio cabinets to salts after having Christmas decorations in them, but the funny thing is, I still have one tote full of salts that I didn't have before... I must have had them more organized before, I just don't know......

Have we done "silver rimmed" along with "silver base" - The silver can be with glass, porcelain, pottery, wood, what ever - But the silver has to be a band or an actual base supporting the salt bowel - Wow how complicated can I make that -- Okay - I go hide for a bit longer

Hi Susie, as Debi said, the individual salt with ruby stained rim is fairly common, but the one with the zig-zag pattern is more rare. It looks as if you have that in a larger size than the ones with the stained rim. I have the Heacock book on ruby stain, one in a series he did on Victorian colored glass. Both of these stained salts are shown on a page for United States Glass Company, items #122 and 123. Both are small individual size. The pattern is named Pavonia. The Heacock book notes that Pavonis was made by Ripley & Co., continued by U.S. Glass after 1891. Pavonia is shown in several books, including 5000 Open Salts (no stained ones) and OSC, shown in ruby rim on Plate 835. You probably have the OSC, but it is described there as scarce with stain, price $45. I've sold them for about that.

Susie: Ruby stain on the rim is more common, but I have seen it the other way too. There's a picture of it somewhere, maybe one of my books but I sure don't remember which one. Maybe the one on ruby stain by Heacock, but there's another ruby stain book too. Nice salt!

In keeping with my dog theme I just found this little guy on the Ballard Designs site. The information reads:
If you had to be a dog, you'd want to be Bunny's. This charming Dog Salt & Pepper Cellar is based on a vintage silver version from Bunny's best-in-show collection. Side pails are enamel-coated inside and lift out for easy serving and filling. In England, front pail was traditionally used for serving dry mustard.

Bunny Williams Dog Salt & Pepper Cellar features:
• Includes 2 spoons
• Brass & aluminum
• Shinny nickel finish

Susie, Lovely Russian enamel salt. And Harley is indeed a good boy. Wish I could get my Goldens to sit still long enough to take pictures. Every time I approach them with a camera they run toward me. I have dozens of close-ups of their noses!!

Big Sis, More good news on both fronts…for you not needing further treatments and also for that darling little great grandbaby boy who is on his way.

Sue, Ongoing prayers for you and Dwaine.

The hospital won't let Dwaine come home yet. Today they discovered that he has afib, so they are slowly weaning him off the meds they gave him a few days ago and starting him on the much higher priced med for afib which he will have to take the rest of his life. He looks like a bruised pin cushion because they stick him for one reason or another about every hour. We're not sure if he'll get home for Christmas so things are a bit gloomy here tonight. Thanks again for your caring thoughts.

My grandmother had a parakeet - I think this is a parrot - a very unhappy one at that - Anyway - back to my granny's bird - His name was Petey and he was forever looking at himself in a small mirror he had and saying over and over and over again - Pretty bird - Pretty bird - I wanted to hide than danged mirror -- Aaah childhood memories - ain't they grand -- Okay I go bed now or do something else just as energetic --

I am with you Susie - It is Russian cloisonné - Small marks on the base are another confirmation - Though Nancy's set is delightful and nice to have all three pieces -

I am doing pretty good in the physical healing department - Just saw the oncologist today and no radiation needed - will have to have several scans for a two or three year period - But I am cool with that -

Having a bit of trouble in the hurting heart department - I surely miss Bob - Even without the holidays - it is just hard -

But 70% of the time I am in a good place physically - emotionally and back to 100% spiritually - My life is good - Just found out new on his way in eight months great grandchild is a boy - and the cycle of life continues --

Really lovely cloisonné salt! I have a three piece set in the dragon pattern, but it isn't nearly of the quality of your salt and the colors aren't as lovely. Yours is one of the finest I've seen. At first glance I thought you had a dragon one and sent a wrong message out to e email subscribers. Sorry folks.

I've been too busy to post much lately. Dwaine has been in the hospital for a few days. His COPD took over last weekend when our car battery decided to give up the ghost, and he was determined to try to fix the problem. Well he ended up in the emergency room. The first night they gave him the wrong meds and nearly sent him into cardiac arrest. They moved him to the cardiac floor, and he is stabilized but not out of the woods yet. My sister and brother-in-law had planned to come for a couple of day, but we had to put that on the back burner. I'm praying for some good news when I go to the hospital this morning. Merry Christmas to all of my salty friends here.

Lynda: A little while back, you posted a NEVADA pattern salt where the ruffled rim was stained green and there was some enameling on the clear glass. I thought it looked like it might have been done after market, but I just saw a NEVADA toothpick holder with the exact same design, so your salt is original! Never saw anything like it before, but yours is a rarity for sure. Don't remember where you originally posted the picture, but if you still have it, could you post it here now so others will know what I'm talking about? Also so I can add the picture to the H&J Project page.

Yes Jane. I should have dumped the frame and kept the glass, but I sold it years ago. I just spent a long time going back through my old club pictures to see if I ever had it at a meeting but didn't find it. Must not have kept many pictures of items I sold.

I had one of those blown glass pieces years ago. It was sitting in a wire frame that had a metal leaf on it. The leaf was rather cupped or bent to hold a cigarette. It was an ashtray. The glass color was the same, a deep reddish brown.
