GLOBAL COGNITIVE DIVERSITY CENSUS  Add your comment on this item1

WHO ARE WE? Add your comment on this item2

·        The essential variables of human diversity relate to cognitive functioning. such as the 50 some "cognitive styles" studied by psychology over the decades. Also important are mode of thinking, learning, and imagining; including strengths and lacks in mental imagery. Much of this diversity is inherited, but cognitive competencies can be developed by learning – within inherited limits.  Add your comment on this item3

·

·        The essential variables of diversity for a creatively self-emergent human noosphere are not “race”, skin color, hair style, height or weight, ethnic origins, languages known, foods eaten, or even age. These cognitive variables are as important as situational data related to health, nutrition, parenting history, income, social status, social networks, etc. Add your comment on this item4

·        Given the many dimensions of cognitive diversity it is not meaningful to rank persons as to their cognitive profiles. Ranking is possible by only one variable at a time. Effective collaboration and teamwork requires a mix of many different cognitive profiles. Add your comment on this item5

·        Most persons, even those with higher education, know very little of this awesome diversity. Although some very important research has been done on cognitive styles, applicable research has been lacking and, unfortunately, few believe it is important, or too complex. Add your comment on this item6

·        Quality education is impossible without explicit consideration of cognitive diversity. Yet, contemporary education is unable to account for this diversity. Add your comment on this item7

·        We need to immediately create a process to create a dynamic database of human cognitive diversity: A Cognitive Diversity Census. Add your comment on this item8

·        Although a full census for the whole human population will eventually be needed, our first target population should be those activists who have access to computers. A people organized self-study project can be implemented online.  There are many valuable spin-offs to such a project - as a powerful means of getting people to learn more about themselves and others - both similarities and differences. Knowledge of themselves as to cognitive competencies will greatly enhance the collaborative and synergistic potential of the new movement of activists for positive change. Add your comment on this item9

·        Such a project will bring about a major SHIFT from viewing ourselves as primarily similar, with differences as deviations from norms to a new view of humans having a very wide and useful distribution of cognitive competencies and potentials.  This project is essential for humankind to adequately come to know itself. Add your comment on this item10
