CHAMPAIGN, IL - I got up this morning, put on a Ben Davis Marching Band T-shirt for no particular reason other than that it was at the top of the "clean" pile, and hopped on my bike to look at the damage from last night's windstorm. (I wasn't in the band, by the way - I got it at a thrift shop.)

I passed a man and his wife who were walking. I'd never seen them before; they looked to be in their 60s. I stopped, said hello, and told them that the spot where they were standing was under two feet of water last night.

We chatted a bit, then the woman noticed my shirt and said, "Is that Ben Davis in Indianapolis?"

They were from Indianapolis, visiting their daughter in the next block. He graduated from Pike in 1966! He went to Butler, where he studied radio!

We had a nice conversation. And it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't just by chance been wearing a BDHS shirt.

That was this morning. This afternoon, I was in the Rantoul Wal-Mart (20 miles north of Champaign), and as I heard a voice behind me yell, "Excuse me!" I turned around, and a lady said, "Did you go to Ben Davis high school?"

Again, she had seen my shirt! Turns out her husband was in the BDHS class of '64! (I think she said his name was David Dennis or Dennis David or something similar.)

So I met two people today I'd never have talked to otherwise, just because of that shirt!

Just got this note from Judy Spell:

Dan this is to let you know Mike Vickrey class of 1963 has passed away. He had been in Indiana for his mother's funeral. I know you work with a lot of different classes besides ours so if you could pass this info on.

Thanks
Judy Spell

WESTLAKE REUNION COMING SATURDAY!

Lions Club Park in Clermont, Saturday, June 21, 5pm to midnight, and admission just $5.00.

It's kinda like a high school reunion for everybody from the west side of Indpls, 1950s-60s-70s. Live DJ playing our music, dance pavilion, air-conditioned restaurant.

Each school has its own section of the park, and I think more BDHS folks attend than any other school.

Bring a chair, bring food and drink. This is your chance to reunite with friends who weren't in our class or school. For Facebook members, here's a link:

http://tinyurl.com/on88snw

And if you aren't on Facebook, here's a map of the park setup that day:

If you attend, look me up and say hi! I'll be wandering around there somewhere.

I have been trying to get a phone number or an email for Linda Tichenor, she played in the band. Her married name is Stillings. Does anyone know anything about her?
