Thanks for your message Tim, pleased to hear you enjoyed visiting the website.
As current secretary for BT TT Club, I had a look through some of the old PO Research meeting minutes and back in 1971/2 I found you down as the club chairman. You will be pleased to know the club is still going strong with 6 teams in the Ipswich league, although the Woodbridge league fizzled out a few years ago.
Another entry of the same year listed you as playing in a team with Bert and Sultan in the 5th division. Both Bert and Berni were stalwarts in the club and league and are missed.

After sending my first message here, I browsed around the excellent website and was saddened to read of the deaths of two good friends of mine whilst I was in Ipswich. I had the honour to work and play table tennis with Bernie Studd and Bert Newman - both in my team. They were both true gentlemen and I know they will be very much missed by their families, friends and the local community. I knew both their familes well, in particular Bert's, and hope that someone reading this can send them my condolences.

Just wanted to say hello to any IDTTL old timers who go back to the 70s when I enjoyed some great times there. I was the IDTTL Treasurer around 1975/6 and met some great people both as administrator and player (not fantastic at the latter but I did try hard!)

My "claim to fame" was looking after the Russian team when they visited Ipswich to play England. I still remember how none of the team spoke English before the match, but miraculously they all seemed to have suddenly learnt quite well after the drubbing they gave England! Best of all I had the opportunity to meet and dine with England players such as Jill Hammersley and Desmond Douglas.

I'd love to hear from any old friends who may remember me. I now live in Peterborough and my email address is tim.cowell@btinternet.com
