And the people who pay to attend these programs have too much tax payer money to spend.

Many of these "programs" were dreamed up by people with way too much time on their hands.

Seems like a waste of money to me.

Times Staff Writer

A positivity program is helping Littlestown Area School District staff spread a little happiness.
Student Services Coordinator Dr. Carolyn Rhodes and Maple Avenue Middle School Assistant Principal Cortney Golden received a special training called The Happiness Advantage, just before school started.
The program teaches employees positive psychology. They learn how to "train" their brains to find that silver lining and bring those feelings into the workplace, according to Rhodes and Golden. The hope is that the positive feelings of the staff will lead to a better environment for the students, they said.
Superintendent Christopher Bigger first heard of The Happiness Advantage at an out-of-state conference. He brought the idea forward and Rhodes and Golden jumped on board.

Businesses, various companies and schools have received Happiness Advantage training, Rhodes said. "The Happiness Advantage" book was written by Harvard University psychology professor Shawn Achor.

Littlestown first wanted to offer this opportunity to its support staff.
"We don't give our support staff enough credit," Golden said.
She said staff, such as bus drivers and cafeteria workers, build bonds with students others don't always notice.

"The bus driver is the first person the student sees in the morning," Rhodes said. "That carries with them throughout the school day."

Rhodes and Golden received their Happiness Advantage training over three days in Alexandria, Va., through the International Thought Leader Network in August. They came back to Littlestown and spent a few days sharing their knowledge with bus drivers and cafeteria staff.

Golden said this was the "most impactful" part of her experience, and said the staff was "very receptive" to the training.

"You get a more positive outlook on life," Rhodes said.
Golden noted The Happiness Advantage isn't about ignoring the negatives of life, but being grateful for the positives.

She said the program can be explained through a tale called, "The Orange Frog," also by Shawn Achor.
Spark the frog is born green with an orange spot, according to Achor's website. When he does things that make him feel better and produce positive results, he turns more orange. The bright color makes him stand out among the other frogs. Golden said this is like being a "positive outlier."
Through her training, Golden learned it's OK to be an outlier and felt encouraged to spread her positivity to others.

"It's proven to be way more powerful than I ever anticipated," Golden said.
She and Rhodes agreed they want to teach more of their colleagues about The Happiness Advantage to make them feel valued, and in turn, benefit the students.

The district's goal is to train all support staff this year and start training teachers next year, according to Rhodes.

I am posting this message in hopes that the thieves that stole several items from my garage sale during Good Ol Days see this message. A older gentleman driving a red pickup truck with a cap pulled up to the end of the driveway, got out of his truck, grabbed an old vintage fishing rod and tackle box, got in his truck and took off. The same afternoon several ladies arrived and one asked to borrow a pair of tweezers. Being the Christian I am, I went into the house to get her a pair of tweezers and when I came back out to the garage several brand new candles were taken and the woman were gone. The very next day, a lady and man arrived and there were several others here as well. I was speaking to one of the men that was here and while talking a lady walks up to a table that had antiques on it and took a vintage Norman Rockwell Plate and quickly walked to her car with the gentleman and took off. I realized soon after they took off that the plate was missing.

It is so very sad that we live in a community that has multiple people who steal from others. NOTHING is safe anymore. May God have mercy on the folks who decided to steal something that didn't belong to them. Rotten rotten people. So very sad. I will never have another garage sale ever again. In the end, the thieves will have to answer to the Man above.

/m16499 Yeah, it was sometimes fun, always interesting, and sometimes aggravating. And yours was a position although different than mine, also similar in varying ways. The biggest mistake public "officials" often make is making false assumptions or following personal agendas. Or in some cases both, using one to reinforce the other.

Lekolight - You would know about "secrecy"! But please, don't assume to know anything about how the board functions now, or how anyone else functions in this position. I know you like to respond with a thesis on this stuff but the rhetoric says the same.
HArry C- I haven't heard but I don't expect to. After all, his goal is to be a "Gadfly" LOL! He can't fill the position but if he leaves, he can't hassle the employees he's hell bent to have resign or fired. (as if) He also can't look at the $$ to try and decide who is "stealing" it. Well, that's not true. He can do his Right to Know requests. No doubt he's loving this publicity.

Cap - No one would be affected if legitimate issues are discussed... I really would hate to think that Lekolight only was interested if things were "self serving". I'm not really believing that myself....

Groucho - I think Sandy might have your answer or better yet, the Historical Society. I don't know and haven't heard. Night folks!

Mom - Did Paul respond to the request to resign yet?

Cap - I agree. Paul seemed to be wrong more than right. He was right about the Sunshine law and council but that was only after he was wrong about it. :)

/m16496 There's a difference between bringing up legit issues which have merit and reason and those which do not. Provably so. And to then contend, after being proven wrong, that the professionals, who provided the proof of being wrong, are lying incompetents is delusional, in my opinion.

Major Mom,

Thanks, LOL on Gadfly. As I recall there was a lady who used to post here and Ben Ricci I believe, nicknamed her Gadfly. Perhaps Paul borrowed that name. :)

Harry C. - In times gone by he told the Gettysburg Times I believe it was that he existed to be a "Gadfly". That's the insect that hangs around a horse and aggravates it all the time. It probably accomplishes nothing. Just irritates for the sake of irritating. Most of us consider that to be the definition of a Toddler. (LOL)

Lekolight - I will add, he is FAR from a man of the people. He has an agenda and he has been trying to work on it in my humble opinion. He knows we can't remove him so we have to ask him to resign. 'Nuf said.

As far as the members not forthcoming with Paul, that's a laugh! You act as if there's some "secret" stuff going on. That's almost insulting. I'll leave it at that.

Lekolight - Not anymore. It was changed along with State updates to codes in 2014. Its too bad too because it would stop the abuse.

Harry C - Actually I think the figure was 17 of 32 meetings, not that he cares. If he has health issues, he should resign. This is the 3rd or 4th time for this. He needs to stop. Plus, people need to understand the game and stop voting for him. Just my opinion.......
