Carol Ross Barney's firm is designing the Howard Street Theater.
I am so honored.

Carol Ross Barney is Chicago’s New Daniel Burnham
Over the past decade, the architect has moved beyond the design of buildings toward stewardship and restoration of urban ecology.

Thanks, Ann and Valeree. I already spoke with Valeree. However, it looks like he needs something for 3/1 and is hoping for central A/C. Any further options are welcome!

RE: 415 Howard - he knows someone who lives there and is considering that as well.

OK so it’s not near Custer and Brummel but it’s just down the street. Modern, great lobby etc.

Neighbors, I have a friend and coworker who is looking for a rental in the Great 8th. He's a single professional who hopes for a relatively modern apartment with a garage space available. Naturally he's excited about the amenities of our neighborhood, relative affordability and our proximity to transit. He was looking at a unit near Custer/Brummel but the lack of garage availability is a dealbreaker for him. If anyone happens to know of anything in our area that might fit his needs please let me know and I can put you both in touch. Thanks!

The Floyd's in Park Ridge cuts my hair -- a nice step up from superCuts et al. SO sorry to hear Yahala didn't make it, but not surprised when they abandoned sit-down, Dixie-Kitchen-style service. Lets hope the guys from the Bat can make this one work.

Three boys, ages 10 and 11, showed up with shovels and asked for $5 (total). I told them they weren't charging enough. The three of them shoveled my walk and sidewalk in a few minutes. If your kids are home today and need something to do, send them out to make some money. BTW, I gave them more than $5!

Good morning,

Crews are in maintaining all main thoroughfares and working on clearing the residential streets.

We are currently experiencing light snowfall but snow amounts should be minimal into the early evening hours. The evening and overnight hours may see an increase in activity associated with lake effect snow that can produce another inch of accumulation. Night crews are scheduled to be in tonight.

As of noon today, no parking ban has been issued; but please be on the look out for alerts as that may change.

Thank you.

Good morning,

A system is scheduled to impact our area starting this evening around 7pm that can leave 3 to 5.5 inches of accumulation over a 25 to 30 hour period. The majority of the snow should fall between 7pm tonight and 7pm Monday, affecting both morning and evening rush hours.

Snow crews have been notified and will be in for snow and ice operations this evening into tomorrow. Parking bans are not anticipated for tonight, but may have to be considered for Monday night, depending on snow totals. Updates and notifications will be sent as they become available.

Thank you.

Good idea, Rachel. I will ask on Monday.

Diane, I think the best reason is explained in Rachel‘s post. We requested the pedestrian crossing at Harvard and it was up to IDOT where it would be allowed. They agreed to Harvard.

I'm curious why the Asbury pedestrian crossing was chosen to be at Harvard instead of Mulford?

Re Harvard Asbury pedestrian crossing: Driving north from Howard one crosses the L tracks. Because of the curve in the street, the driver doesn’t have a clear sight line to the intersection. Once you’re on the bridge you’re practically on top of the intersection. If there is a pedestrian waiting to cross, the driver has to make a split second decision to apply the brakes and stop in time. Maybe a sign could be posted on the south side of the bridge notifying drivers of the pedestrian crossing on the other side of the bridge.

Ann, please share with the public works/street dept that it would be great if the salt crews would CONSISTENTLY come down all of the dead ends off Brummel. As you know, I'm on Florence and last night's truck backed down and salted, but stopped at the alley and missed salting in front of 210 and 212 Florence. Whenever I hear a plow or salt truck, I open my blinds and have lots of lights turned on, then stand in the window and wave to get their attention/offer a thank you. Rushed to do that last night, but they left too quickly.
