To all my friends and constituents in the Great 8th Ward,

I have loved every minute I have served as the Alderman of this Ward. It’s complicated and therefore a challenge.
It is so diverse. It is so dynamic – it has everything. A trauma 1 Hospital, a sports dome, a 17 story hi rise, a 28 year old shopping center with only 1 vacancy in its entire history, the largest park in town, beautiful homes of all kinds and the Oakton Historic District. We have restaurants, adult beverages, bakery, and people of every ethnic group, a federal health clinic, several synagogues, schools, banks, affordable housing, a performing arts theater and more.

And then there are the people including all of you, I am going to miss you so much. Thanks to you all for being so helpful in so many ways.

I plan on spending some time doing household things and being spontaneous. Then I hope to make myself useful in some way. Let us all stay healthy; summer is coming – looking forward to some kind of normal!

Just a note about the 80th Council meeting tonight before the 81st council and the negativity surrounding what is usually a rather upbeat evening especially by the winners.

The argument that you were hearing was based on the fact the state law states the newly elected shall be sworn in and seated at first meeting in May. Since my first election, the outgoing council meets, finishes its work on that night, congratulates one another and then has a party/reception. The new council is sworn in and conducts “call of the Wards.” They adjourn and have a reception.
I have never seen an unpleasant or controversial transition until today. Lots of lame duck talk including lawyers writing letters talking law suit. Not sure if some of these supporters have been involved in a transition. Perhaps, things will calm down.

I viewed The Historical List of Evanston Mayors and City Council Members. 🤓

Did Evanston formerly have two aldermen serve each ward? Looking at that list it seems that way. 🤔

For all those interested in the leaf blower ordinance -
I just received word that a continuing Alderman is going to hold the ordinance in committee or on the council floor I think, so it will not be past tonight. It’s not my fault - lol- sorry. Evidently the thinking is we’re in the middle of the season and it wouldn’t be fair to impose these rules months leaf blower season has started.

Our condo needs to have all the back stairs painted. They are exterior, semi enclosed wooden stairs. Some repair/replacement is needed. Can anyone recommend to me a painter able to take on this task?
Also, I will miss this message board. Ann thank you for all you have done for the great 8th and allowing neighbors to connect with each other.

Did anyone recently "lose" a rust colored patio umbrella? A patio umbrella landed in our front bushes on Hull Terrace and we have not been able to find the owner!

Thanks to Sue and Pamela for responding

Yes, Sue, it would be great to have her contact info. It is a mending project but a rather complicated endeavor on a piece that is a family keepsake
