I have seen glowing recommendations on this board for appliance repair but cannot find them now, when our dryer is not heating. Can anyone make a recommendation for someone to hopefully fix it?
Thanks!

I had a short power outage at my house around 3am a few nights ago. It set off my security alarm system. Scared the bejeezus out of me. By the time I'd called ADT, the service was already restored. I'm on the 1400 block of Mulford.

Re the power outage: We were out of town and returned Wednesday evening. Our digital clocks were blinking so we knew power had been lost at some time. This would be at least one house on the east side of the 300 block of Ashland near Mulford.

My building’s small parking lot needs some cracks refilled, new sealcoating, and striping. Can anyone recommend a reliable contractor?

Thanks in advance.

I have a small wedding tomorrow morning at a Chicago park -- this sweet couple are working with a very tight budget. And the weather looks pretty wet.

Does anyone know of a space in Evanston or northerly Chicago that would provide a roof for us and is available without a fee? This will be a group of about 15 people, the couple and me.

Thanks for putting your thinking caps on, much appreciated.

Street cleaning zone 4, To all those who help post signs for 4th Tuesday and Wednesday sweeping - July 24 and 25 are the next street sweeping days in our neighborhood. If anybody in S. Evanston needs street sweeping signs please let me know I’ll be glad to deliver. They really work!

John I was advised your outage is totally unrelated to the accident involving the truck hitting a pole

Ann: Apparently after the first outage the automated system tried "Plan B". After the second outage it must have devised "Plan C".

At least it solved the mystery of why my computer has been rebooting every few days at around 5:35AM: A bad UPS, and (I think) Windows sending a routine test message to the UPS to get a health report. The UPS then tests itself, but bad batteries cause a power loss. There are so many things that Windows 10 does that nobody knows about.

Com ed advises, This outage was caused by a pole that was snapped by a truck. That brought down several lines.
We had crews on site all day making the repairs. We completed all work around 2:00pm.

John the the short minute long power outages relate to the new technology that when possible transfers interrupted power lines to other available service lines.

Regarding power outages:

There were two short power outages within a couple of minutes of each other, each one lasting a minute or so, on the south side of the 1700 block of Brummel at about 3:15AM on 7/18/2018. I was at my computer at the time and it made it clear that my Uninterruptible Power Supply did not work. Time for new batteries, again. Or a new UPS.

I mention specifically the south side of Brummel because I am on a different ComEd circuit from the north side of Brummel. I have no idea how the 300 block of Darrow relates to the circuit that I am on, or if the power outages of Brummel and Darrow were related.

Brummel St Neighbors:

My apologies for the jackhammers this morning at my home with no warning. The replacement of my front walk was scheduled just yesterday; as I. We’d to do it to address some other home issues, I took the early timeslot offered. Thank you for your patience and understanding. It is not a long walk, so the loud work should be done shortly. Thank you!

A neighbor Mr. Millner is dissatisfied with me and city services and is presenting his displeasure live on Facebook this morning. I do my best to multi task but I have trouble reacting in detail on all the various outlets (emergencies excepted) that require more than a few sentences.
In response to Mr. Millner:
We have immediately (same day) reacted to Mr. Millner’s 3 previous mattress/Irresponsible garbage disposal reports of March 4th, April 2 and April 11 at Parkside condos with 18 emails. In each case, the city responded immediately by removing the dumped items. We’ve sent letters to the people who live in the 3 small buildings and the Health Dept. has issued citations.
I regret Mr. Millner feels he has to trash and degrade the 8th Ward and our hard working city staff because of some irresponsible person(s) dumping. With each report, there is an immediate response. Those of you who use 311 or call me or the civic center know the city is responsive.
Finally, the people at Parkside Condo are very upset at being accused of being irresponsible. Parkside like others are victims of fly dumping, which is a citywide problem. This is serious and expensive; a problem for which we are all paying.
The mattresses which today’s video details were removed at 10:57 am today. Neighborhood litter was also Mr. Millner’s concern. Neighbors responded to this problem last month on Brummel, Dobson, Clyde and Callan and posted the orange no parking for street sweeping signs. We got great neighbor cooperation on the street sweeping. It takes a neighborhood. If a service does not meet your expectation, call 311, call me. Between the two, if it is possible we know the wonderful, competent, hardworking good public servants who can get the job done.
In addition, we get a lot done from talking to one another.
