I had a friend that lived right down the street from GA and as I drove past I always thought, "That must be a great environment to work in!" Later by chance I got the opportunity to meet Bill only a few times, but he left a great impression on me. He was one of the most gracious and welcoming people I have had the pleasure of meeting. If you were too shy to say anything he would give you a big welcoming smile and say HELLO! He's not only "The Big Kahuna" with all those Hawaiian Shirts, he's like a big colorful Papa Bear... Willing to wrap his arms around everyone he come in contact with and give life a great big bear hug!
The irony is that November 13th is my birthday and after taking myself out to eat that night I was feeling a bit down. I wanted to do something special and in my travels through Holywood late that night I once again happened past and thought about the nicest guy in those colorful prints and I just smiled!
Thanks for the smiles, sir!

God Bless you and your family and Bill. Jesus Christ Lord of All Lords Conquering Lion Of The Tribe Judah. For Forever He rules and reigns. The Most High King of Kings. For I send Blessings and Prosperity to you Forevermore. I remember when that store was a new item on the block. I went to several engagements had lots of fun and Golden Apple truly became a mark in my life for travel, and became a part of life as a growing youth. I would travel there for the latest Robotech toys and books. I even won a drawing contest held for youth and different mediums. It was a great place. A much remembered place. God BLess Bill. Amen. Jesus Christ!!!JAH!

I just recently, one minute ago, found out about Billīs passing. I feel a great sense of loss and I wish I had been able to send my deepest condolences when it really mattered. He left a lasting legacy, not only with his store Golden Apple but with the lasting relationships that he made. It was more than a store that he founded but a place for like minded people to congregate to and it was his vision that guided it. Thank you Bill. May you rest in peace.

Sharon and Staff:

My sincere condolences to you all. I only learned recently of Bill's passing and just thought I would see you two as I often did at the SD convention as I haven't been to your store in quite awhile. I will forever remember Bill as a generous man always promoting and giving a helping hand to upcoming artists of every variety! I'm sure he's looking down with a big smile to you all.

My love and regardZ...

I just learned that Bill had passed away, Sharon, and I'm so sorry to learn this as he was such a star for so many of us. I still have the photo taken at the Book Signing I had at the Melrose store and what great memories! I trust you and the family are all doing well. He was such a great support for me personally when my lifemate, Patrick, crossed over and should you ever need anything, please get in touch with me. Much love and my prayers are with you.

We here at Operation Comix Relief will never forget the generosity of William. He not only touched our lives, but those of our soldiers as well, who he helped provide comics too. You will be missed!

I can't say anything about Bill that hasn't been echoed a thousand times over.
As the music world immediately experienced a void by the departing of Sammy Davis Jr., John Lennon, and Ray Charles, our sequential-art world also reels from the chasm caused by the absence of the gentle giant.

My friend Tom Vickers introduced me to him years ago and I'd bump into him a few times, either at the store or a concert. Somehow I even ended up in his home! Although I barely knew him, every single time we met, he always treated me like we were old pals....from day one.

What an extraordinary example of how generous and gracious a human being can be. As a caricaturist and portrait artist, I know a kind face when I see one. Bill's smiling face with that twinkle in his eye, accurately reflected his endearing inner character.

My face is dripping.
Thanks for blessing us with your presence, Bill.
Your spirit is everlasting.

I was browsing the web and was taken back by the news, Bill was no longer with us. Bill was a great person, a gentle giant. I remember coming into the store and always having a great talk, hearing the latest adventure or what what was in the future.

You will be missed, but never forgotten, thanks Bill.

I was very saddened to hear of Bill's passing. :(
The last time I saw him and Sharon was at the Joan Jett concert out in Anaheim about 5 years ago.
I just moved back into West Hollywood and was browsing the website to see when he and Sharon might be around to say hi to...
needless to say I was absolutely shocked to see the notice on the website.
I will never look at my comic book collection without thinking of Bill and the Golden Apple.

Warmest wishes,

I just wish to offer my condolences to Bill's family at home and at the store. I just found out today while browsing randomly, and even though its been many years since I was in the store I still felt the pang in my heart. When I moved to LA, my Golden Apple visits were something I looked forward to most in my week. I met the greatest people there and have lots of great memories to go along with them, and I know Bill had a heart of gold. Though I no longer live there and have been away for some time, it will always remain in my heart.
Sincerely,
Meilani

Dear Sharon,
I've been away from the store for quite a while, but it still came as a shock to read of Bill's sudden (to me) passing. The big guy always took an active interest in what I was buying at Golden Apple, and always had a comment or suggestion, often shot through with wonderful tints of irony. He'll be sorely missed. You have my heartfelt condolences.
