DON'T MISS THE TOOL SALE, TODAY 9-NOON, AT MARGIE PENNEYS, 21 SPRUCE ST in JAMESTOWN.

Lots of terrific tools at great prices! There will be interesting things for everyone, with a tool guy on hand to answer your questions.

From downtown Jamestown's parking lot, cross the creek and go up Anderson Hill. Road to 21 Spruce is just past the school on the left. Follow the signs to 21 East Spruce.

Note, the driveway is unaccommodating to numerous cars, so consider walking from the school if possible. The parking area around the house limits only a few cars at a time, so keep that in mind.

WOWIE! Please read this carefully to the end...

Just when I think I had the best July 4th ever (last year), another one comes along to surpass it yet again! WHAT A GREAT DAY AND NIGHT topped by a phenomenal fireworks display thanks to JVFD!!! I learned later that our beloved Fire Chief, Rob Kohler, bought the grand finale HEARTS DISPLAY with his own money specifically with Chris and Lulu in mind! What an incredible commUNITY of peace, love, and happiness that I am so glad and proud to be part of!!!

Of course, I am never able to say ALL that I should say on the microphone throughout the day, so I would like to reiterate DEEP and SINCERE THANKS on behalf of JVFD/EMS to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who worked so hard and joined in this enormous commUNITY effort. Together we created another raging success...

Leaders of the Pack -- GAYLE TOWNER & SARA MILLIGAN

Many of the sound techies throughout the day continued to help after their "shift" was over (Richard Jenkins) and many stepped up to help out even though they didn't have a shift (Gary Dunn, Michael Brotherton). Restoration Volunteers Needed Immediately

This Friday, June 12, 2009, we will be working with a small team
of Forest Service folks in the upper reaches of Howlett Gulch
to further stabilize the newly restored area with plantings of
bushes. This area was the source of the mudflow through
Jamestown. We need a few local volunteers to help with the
plantings during the morning hours 8:30 AM till noon. Please
contact Colleen Williams, James Creek Watershed Initiative, at
303-449-2621 ASAP. Help to make positive changes within your

The EMS vehicle is parked outside the firehall untill late Tuesday evening or early Wednesday because the firehall is being used as the polling place for voting. I locked the vehicle and the keys are inside the firehall on the bulletin board by the radios. Please remember to keep the EMS vehicle locked if it is ever out of the firehall and unattended.

JVFD EMS Team Update:

Please mark your calendars for the following EMS training dates for 2008 to be held at 180 Main Street instead of the Fire Hall:

1. October 27, 2008 - Topic: Bloodborn Pathogens from the RapidCE website. This online course is under the Occupational Safety category on the home page. It is number B301. We will be practicing skills from this class and review the basic skills of responding to any incident.

2. November 24, 2008 - Topic: Abdominal Injuries Online course B241.

3. December 15, 2008 - Topic: Skills practicals and testing. This class is required to all EMS First Responders.

As your EMS Chief it is my responsibility to provide you with the opportunities for training to keep your First Responder Certification and make sure that you are skilled to provide safe treatment on the scene. It is important that you attend the monthly trainings to practice your skills. At least 4 of your 12 CEUs should be from attending the monthly trainings each year.

It is your responsibility to attend the trainings to practice skills, keep your First Responders status by having 12 CEUs annually, wear your radios and learn how to use them, respond to all 911 calls to the Fire Hall, do not respond if you are impaired from drugs or alcohol, and work as a team.

All of you put in the time to get your First Responders certification. It would be unfortunate if you let this lapse and then have to take the entire course over again. After January 1, 2009, those who do not have their 12 CEUs completed will not be listed on the EMS Team as First Responders. Please contact me if I can help in any way to keep you on this team. We value every member of the EMS Team.

Thank you for helping your community.

Hi Friends! I just got the following message from Holly Mann and she asked me to share it:

Dear All:
I just want to say thank you. To you and EVERYONE who have helped us. I am home and trying to heal. I am feeling better. We are still waiting for the pathology results. I won't know anything for sure until I have another pregnancy test (next week). If it is negative they we will have to assume that they got everything with the surgery. If it is positive, then there is a cancer and they will look further. So for now I am just trying to get medications straightened out for the auto immune disease and get back on my feet. I am very grateful to all of you.

All my Love, Holly and Family

P.S. I will keep you updated. I saw one of my doctors today and she was pleased with my progress.

Hi Friends. Here's a HOLLY UPDATE:

Thank you to those who are concerned and have offered help to Holly and her family. We don't know any details about her condition yet, but I will be going down to spend the day tomorrow with my two teen helpers and can take anything you may have for them. Here's what is needed:

1. MEALS and/or GROCERIES: juices & cereals for Gavin, grocery cards so I can shop for them, and any meals that can be frozen.

2. CHILD CAREGIVERS/BABYSITTERS for Gavin at their home in Thornton while Holly's sister, Katie, attends to baby Addie needed on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. They do not need overnight care, but really need an extra hand with Gavin, light housekeeping, shopping, etc. Other kids are welcome to come play with Gavin as well!

3. AIRPORT RIDE: Holly's mom is arriving at DIA this Friday at around 2 p.m. If anyone can pick her up and bring her to Thornton, it would be a tremendous help.

Please call Katie @ (303) 536-5454 if you are able to provide any of these needs. You can also call me @ (303) 545-5502 if you have meals or food to send.

Thanks to our special commUNITY for reaching out to this former Jimtown family in need.

Hi Friends...we all have a friend in crisis right now.

Holly (Smith) Mann is heading right now to the emergency room in Denver and her 2 small children desperately need care while she is there. She asked me to post this message and make phone calls to all of her friends up here.

In case you don't know, Holly has recently been diagnosed with Lupus and has been terribly sick for 6 months since giving birth to her daughter. She also has a 3 year old son, Gavin, and her husband, John, cannot take any more time off of work as there would be NO money coming in for the family & bills.

Holly's sister, Katie, is looking after the kids and the whole family would appreciate ANY HELP that ANYONE can provide, which mostly entails coming to their house to help with the kids. Now, they live in Thornton (about an hour away from here) and Katie can provide directions or any other info if you call her cell phone @ (603) 339-2442. Holly's home phone is (303) 536-5454.

Your kindness is much appreciated!

It's time to BUILD A NEW PAVILLION FOR BIG (Elysian) PARK!

Some of you may have noticed how the stage/picnic pavillion is in desperate need of reconstruction, which will most likely be included to some degree in the upcoming GOCO grant headed up by Wendy Stokes.

Anyone interested in being part of this process, including input on the architectural plans, donating labor/materials for the actual construction, or any other help with improving this important town fixture, please attend the Elysian Park MEETING tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 9th @ 7 p.m. in Town Hall or call me @ (3 o 3) 5 4 5 5 5 o 2 with your ideas!

July 4th was a BLAST! Special thanks to JVFD/EMS for the most spectactularrrr fireworks EVER! It was also nice to see the presence of Left Hand Fire Dept. and I commend both departments for bridging a long-standing gap to work together and protect the our shared mountain!

Furthermore, I would like to thank ALL of the musicians who provided excellent music for the day, including the Kevin Dooley Trio, the entire Farmer family (Nolan, Sara, Katie, Nancy), Warren Hixson, Porphry Mountain, Swamp Koolers, Ed Gage & Friends, Bill Brotherton & Friends, Crash of the Dischords, Biscuit & Gravy, Jared Menard, Ronnie Tori, Gold Hill, and DJ Chad Zygoat, as well as the sound people who WORKED very hard that day, including Nolan Farmer, Drew McGrael, Richard Jenkins, Glenn Short, Bill Brotherton, Brent Delventhal, Tommy Williams, and Brian from Gold Hill. Thank you also to every person who helped with set up and clean up!

Finally, the music in Big Park would not have been possible at all without POWER from Cleg's home, for which we are eternally grateful. Thank you to Judy for accommodating our needs that day and for enduring loud music into the late hours!

'Til next year...ROCK ON!

Hi Guys & Gals! I'm taking charge of the Town Photo this year (see info below). Can you possibly position the fire truck(s) for the photo right after the parade? Depending how many people are in the photo, we may need both the big truck and another one (possibly new EMS vehicle) parked maybe at an angle (like in a V-shape?) fairly close together. These nice local photographers have a wide angle lens, but the closer we can get those trucks together, the better. Can someone please confirm yay or nay to this message? THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!!

Addendum to July 4th Schedule:

TOWN PHOTO @ 2 p.m. SHARP!!!

Thanks to our local friends, Bruce & Gabriel Felix, our annual Town Photo will be taken as soon as everyone convenes near or on the fire trucks!!! Gathering will take place PROMPTLY (not mountain time) @ 2 p.m.!!! Everyone is welcome to be in the photo, even if you are working at a booth at that time. Spread the word!

After the photo is taken, I will have them printed and I will distribute them and collect the money by August 1st. Price of the photo will be announced that day and all proceeds will benefit our very dear JVFD/EMS.

So, if you want to be IN the photo, be at the fire trucks @ 2 p.m. If you want to be guaranteed to GET a photo this year, be sure to SIGN UP for the quantity you desire AT THE RAFFLE BOOTH in the Big Park!!!

Thanks for the wednesday meeting reminder Rob. So I would love some help gathering some wood for the wood splitting contest. I spotted some nice trees just up 15th street, dead from the fire and without a lot of black. Thought I might look into a couple of those. If I could get 2 or 3 guys to help me out maybe late afternoon anytime tuesday the 1st through the afternoon of the 3rd that would be great. We only need a truck or two. Email or call me david @ jimtown.org or 459-0203

On that same note, I've got a commitment for another load of oak blocks to be donated for the contest. I'm thinking of just splitting it amongst the top three. So warm up your mauls and tell your friends, let's make it the best one yet!

I added an on/off switch to 4251 (the Honeywell truck) that must be connected to start the truck. It also needs to be turned off when we put the truck back in the station. It is a knife switch located on the battery. When it in the off position we should leave the hood open so we don't forget to close it!

- people to commit to bringing wine

I'm hoping to raise a bit of money for the department at the Firemen's Ball. So far we have about $1500 in donations for the silent auction and raffle.

Please email me at tschoedinger@hotmail.com or call 303.544.1361 if you can volunteer. All proceed for this event support both Fire & EMS.

           Driving Safety Tips

This comes from FireRescue1.com

1. Leave the station in a safe manner
Mount the apparatus quickly, be seated and belted before the apparatus moves. We've all heard, "It takes too long to dress outside," or "They want to know why it took us so long to roll out " How about actually getting to the rig a little quicker for starters? Recent test footage clearly indicates unbelted firefighters become projectiles themselves, endangering belted firefighters in the process. So the old, "It's my butt, not yours" clich does not fly anymore!

2. Drivers: Wait for the bay doors to fully open
This item alone has fractured many fire department budgets and delayed or cancelled countless fire department responses. Drivers: you should be the calm one here, fully in control of your emotions. Make sure that door is fully up before you pull out the door as bar lights and bay door repairs are very costly! Garage door companies love us, ask any fire chief.

3. Drive defensively and professionally at reasonable speeds
You are being watched — have you checked out YouTube lately? We are constantly being observed nowadays. In this era of technology, everyone has some type of picture-taking device; mini-camcorders, cell phones, palm pilots What's next? Pictures don't lie, do they ...?

4. Know where you are going
Blasting down the road not knowing where you are going is asinine. This should be determined before you leave the station — not after. How about a GPS device for the rig? They are relatively cheap, easily installed and easy to use. A local retailer may even be willing to donate one for a little publicity or a photo opportunity?

5. Always use all required warning devices on emergency runs
It's the law. If it is not a true emergency, respond as such. 911 tapes will definitively prove that first arriving units advised all others to disregard — why where you still responding emergency traffic when your mishap occurred? That's what the lawyer will ask you when you have been involved in a wreck after being told to disregard.

6. Don't exceed your department's maximum speed limit policy
Every seasoned veteran knows it really does not make that much difference in your arrival time. Know your policy and follow it. Significantly lower speeds as dictated by traffic, weather, darkness or a bad roadway.

7. Completely stop at all red lights and stop signs
There is no valid excuse for not doing this every time! There is no further discussion warranted here.

8. Don't drive recklessly or with due regard for other drivers
By doing so, you give the appearance of an idiot — because you are an idiot. Don't be that person!

9. Don't take any chances with negative right-of-way intersections
This is scary to think about, let alone doing it. Departmental SOPs/SOGs should address this. If not, your common sense should.

10. Don't intimidate or scare other drivers out of your way
Never attempt to plow traffic with your air-horns; refer back to number seven if needed. This type of driver projects an extremely unprofessional image, which gives the entire fire department a bad name. It is a fire officer's responsibility to deal with this behavior immediately when notified of such irresponsible and dangerous actions.

Hey gang,

the Engine Boss class that Rob, Cameron and I just took gave me some good info about truck inventory sheets and inspections. I will be working on those items in the next few days and we can discuss our next training if you like.

I did see a few things that we should all be aware of. One 4250 was parked and it was left in reverse. This can be dangerous for the next person who starts it. Also, the hubs for the 4x4 were locked. I am not so sure this is a good idea. I'd keep them unlocked until you need four wheel drive. Remember it's a FORD...

We also have some small brass keys that should not be removed from 4250's key chain for any reason. I will discuss that our next meeting.

4251 was totally dead. I threw a quick charge on it.

4220- EMS may have a left fron tire issue. It seems to be going flat. I will address that tomorrow.

4240- appears ok but will go through it tomorrow.

If anyone wants to get involved let me know.

                   Division Of WildLife Contact
I spoke to our Division of WildLife contact (I will put his info below) and mentioned to him some of the issues Jamestown has had recently with a bear. I also mentioned the mountain lion that has been seen in town on main street. Right now they will not do anything because they have not received any complaints. I filed one this morning. Let me stress that if you see a lion in town walking around, unafraid, or is acting aggressive, please report it. If you have a bear that is causing problems or acting agressive, please report it. If they get enough complaints, they will come up and try to deal with the animal. If you do not report it, nothing can be done.

I was talking with Quinter last night as he was finishing mowing the park (thanks Q!) and we were thinking it would make a lot of sense to water down the park prior to the festivities of the 4th. I'm wondering if it might make sense to try and do that tomorrow night? We could take 4240 and walk along behing it spraying down the park. We could also do something wednesday morning. What do you think? It shouldn't take long with the capacity of 4240. Just a thought.

So who is committed to going to the pyro training tomorrow? I’m going to have to change some plans but I think I can make it. I’m not very excited about driving out on my own though. Any other carpool folks? I’d be going from Boulder. Sounds like we’d have to leave by 5. The training shouldn’t take more than an hour to hour and half as far as I understand it.

I think we need to have a head count by noon. If we’re not going to have a reasonable turnout we might have to reconsider. So please respond to this email asap.

Anything to add Jim?

A special thanks to those that responded to yesterday's EMS call. It was a good response and teamwork. We will go over the call at our next training on Monday, June 25, 7 PM at firehall.

The EMS vehicle will be out of service beginning today. It will be in the shop and will post when it's back in service. The EMS equipment will be on a table inside the firehall. We will use the old protocol of responding with equipment in personal cars until the vehicle gets fixed.

So is there a plan to do the pack test tomorrow? We were talking about 8 right? Anyone else? Also to confirm, we can do either of these? "Arduous Level: 3 miles in 45 minutes and 45 seconds with a 45-pound pack, or run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes." It sure seems like the 1.5 mile run will be the most obvious. We doing it?

Are we still planning on a burn tomorrow. Should be good provided the winds have subsided.

It wasn't necessarily the Board that canceled the fireworks. There was some discussion that many JVFD members would be on vacation/out of Town on the 4th. Keep in mind, we can invite other VFD's to participate in lighting fireworks and act as spotters, such as we've done in the past. We've given them free breakfast and shirts. It's also good PR and would give them an opportunity to see our new and improved fire department, etc. Fireworks do increase the profits as well! I believe we've learned from our error a couple years ago and can insist on getting new tubes with the mortars. (My two cents.)

It's also important that during the summer months, that I'm kept informed of those on the JVFD who are out of town and who's available in the event of a fire (structure or wildland). We can always notify other departments that we are short-handed.

Thanks for all you do JVFD/EMS!

Mary Ellen just wrote me that the Town Board was canceling the fireworks because there were not going to be enough JVFD in town. I hadn’t heard anything of this. I know that there was some interest in seeing about a fireworks training so I was thinking there would have been interest in having them this year. As far as the training, I talked to Stonebraker who had a training about a month ago. They didn’t contact us because they knew we’d done a short training last year and didn’t think that we’d need it again. If there was interest in doing it again we could go down for another short (1hr or so) training with them sometime in the next month.

As far as whether we’re putting on the fireworks or not, I don’t know. I am a bit frustrated that we have to revisit this every year. There is clearly some anxiety over this and I’m wondering if it’s worth it. I also know that most folks in town are seriously disappointed when we fail to have them. I don’t see the problem with having them. We’ve always had a good crew and have worked out some issues. Then again, there’s always the stress over the fire danger and making that call. Last year for example we were pressured into deciding early and then in the last week had enough rain to make it more than safe had we gone ahead.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

There was some discussion about sending someone(s) to the firework class this coming saturday. If there is still interest here is some info and registration stuff, http://www.rmpg.org/documents/PGICertInfo07.html

We talked about 1 to 3 people going if they wanted. I'm not able to. I don't think this is necessary for us to be comfortable doing the show but it certainly wouldn't hurt. Registration was supposed to be done by yesterday but I think they'd still be okay with a late one. Contact them and Mary Ellen about it if you want to do it. Again, it's this Saturday the 5th.

I appreciate the classroom refreshers and the opportunity to apply it, and the logical flow of the lesson planning that will lead up to some great practicals later this spring. It was also good to see Ben and Drew there, and Jena's interest... good to see new faces and continued recruitment. Goodness knows as I age and get more decrepit I might need somebody to help carry my fire pack and schlep ladders :-)

He does an excellent job providing structure fire training the VFD and he is also one of our most dedicated wild land fire fighters. Please extend a thank you to Rob, for all his efforts and dedication to the VFD as well as welcome him to his new job as Assistant Chief.

David - I agree, I definitely wanted to take advantage of that opportunity as well. I'd like to get there early too, if I wore my wildland gear could it double as a training, or if we put a ladder up on the Blue Jay headframe... :)

I'm having a bit of a conflict with the training this week as I'd really like to get some of the wood that BoCo Open Space is selling at the Blue Jay on Saturday. I would guess there's a few other folks interested too. It would suck to have a bunch of "outta towners" get first dibs. They say it'll be from 9 to 4. I don't think they've got a huge amount to sell and it should be really nice wood for a good price. Should we think of starting later? Postponing? Stop whining? Ideas?

To Whom It May Concern:

In 2005 members of several Boulder County Youth Corps teams, with assistance and supervision from the Boulder County Parks and Open Space department, the Boulder County Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator, and the Colorado State Forest Service Front Range Fuels Treatment Partnership forester, conducted forest management and wildfire mitigation work on the Blue Jay Mine property near Jamestown.

As a result of this work, a number of forest by-products were produced, among them approximately 185 slash piles and residual fuelwood product. These materials were cut in the summer of 2005. During the fall/winter of 2006, most of the slash piles were burned during or immediately following snow events, eliminating the material as a source of fuel for wildfires. The logs, however, have remained on site.

Ordinarily, these log decks would be sold to a single contractor as firewood, but as there exists a local desire for firewood in the community of Jamestown, the BCWMG, in conjunction with BCPOS and the CSFS will be holding a public fire wood sale. Details of this sale follow:

Date: Saturday, February 10, 2007 Weather permitting

9:00am to 4:00pm

Cost: $20.00 per cord CHECKS ONLY Payable to “Boulder County”

You must load your own wood

Please contact Eric Folwell, BCPOS Forestry Specialist with questions at 303-678-6290

Sincerely

Colleen and I got a message from Jeff yesterday that the battery in the new Suburban isn't holding a charge. Jeff was in the fire hall yesterday putting chains on the Suburban and had to charge the battery again. EMS team might want to periodically make sure it still starts until we get a more reliable battery.

Thank you very much for all your dedication, thank you for time, than you for training, thank you for help in making Jamestown more prepared when it comes to emergency situations. All of you deserve a huge round of applause!!!!!!
I would also like to give a special thanks to one of our newest members- Jeff who took on a task and got it done as soon as possible. Jeff, thanks for ordering and picking up the new chains for all our trucks. I feel a lot better right now this has been taken care of given the current blizzard like conditions.

Thanks everyone for showing to todays training. I was really happy to see the turnout we had!!!!! I wanted to send you a quick email about a few items.

1) We had a pretty darn good response for the house fire on Mesa St.
2) We also know we need to develope and distribute are SOP's.
3) I did speak briefly with Colleen and we are going to work this out as well with EMS!!!
4) Jeff (someone please pass this on to him) is going to take care of looking into chains and will let me know his findings.
5) Tara and Matt will be working on organizing our current SOP's and will have copies for review for everyone for our next training (if you get electrnic versions please forward!!!).
6) Rob K will be trying to contact Boulder Rural about getting a copy of their FF1 training slides.
7) Arne will be working on finding a supplier for more JVFD Volunteer stickers for your vehicles.

There is one other item, I think we should have a command meeting sometime before the end of the month during the week in the evening. I am open to suggestions. If there are none I will suggest a time and place.

Any FF1's want to volunteer to give next month's training? Please let me know.

Thanks again

Hi gang,

there is training this Saturday 9AM sharp. We will be starting our structure fire classes as part of our winter curriculum. This does mean we will have classroom and hands on. Class will pretty much be like this moving forward in the winter months.

As a disclaimer, I think this is just a start. That is to say after two classes you will not be a structure fire fighter-is a book a book if there are only two pages? Yes grasshopper, you must ponder deep within yourself....ooops back to fire fighting.

As I was saying, this is a start but I also think it is interesting enough to get you more involved in training, fire is a science and that, you will learn-but only if you show up on a regular basis. Personally I am excited about this and in my opinion this is long over due. I will not make you do anything I would not do myself, I will not yet put you in a dangerous position (maybe some day when we get the burn trailer up in town things may get harry for you) and best of all, you will learn how to fight a structure fire SAFELY.

A few items I would like to add to my spam and that I would like you to keep in mind moving forward.

1) We are working on limited time (this is only a 3 hour class once a month!!!!).
2) Mayhem and interruptions will be frowned upon. We really need to use our time wisely.
3) Start thinking about being a team.No I did not say start thinking about the "A Team."
4) Think about your safety and the safety of those on your team.
5) Please be respectful of those people teaching the class. The more sidebar conversations you have, the less the others learn.
6) Be on time, traffic, bus delays, train schedules and flight arrivals tend not to be a problem in Jamestown.
7) Be ready for fun.

I look forward to this weekend!!

                        December Training

This December, we as a department are going to start our structure fire training class. Things will be a bit different compared to what we have done in the past for training. For the first time we will see class presentations about structure fire, fire behavior, safety, organization, Incident Command etc. The second half of class will be dedicated to hands on practice of fire fighting principles just covered in class and not limited to the above.
Training will be different, some of you may not like it, but please be patient, the ultimate goal in all of this is to make us a better trained and educated department in all aspects of fire fighting. It will take your time, your dedication, focus and willingness to participate as a department member to really make us succeed as an Emergency Services Organization. How was that for a run on sentence?
I look forward to this change, I think we need to embrace it as best we can as volunteers and I hope you find it a worthy endeavor for you and for the rest of the community.

The EMS vehicle is parked in the other bay. We thought it might be easier for EMS personnel to open that door-it's much liter. Please note that garage door will lock and should be kept locked. To open, inside there is a white pin just about the inside garage door handle. You much push on it (listen fpr click) and then you can turn the garage door handle to open. Ken Lenarcic also went dpwn to work on the battery and make sure it is snug. Thanks Ken.
Hopefully this week sometime we will be able to take the truck down for logos.

Hi Everyone,

I have confirmed with Bill Powers that we are on for this Saturday at 9AM sharp for a visit and presentation at the 911 Com center off of 33rd St. If you have ever been down to get a new license plate-it is directly across the street from that. Parking is somewhat limited, so I encourage you to car pool. Bill said we can also park in the lot for the Boulder County Clerk, which is exactly where you go for a license plate on 33rd-sort of behind King Soopers.

This is a great ooportunity to meet the Director of Communications for Boulder, sit next to 911 operators and see how they do their job, see the emergency operations command center, Bill will also be giving a presentation on communications protocols, you may ask all the questions you like-I very much encourage anyone who is on EMS and the VFD to attand this training. We only get to go here once inawhile and if you have never been-you'll be sorry you missed it!!!

This Saturday Oct 14, 2006 9AM sharp in Boulder. Please be on time as we will be entering a locked facility sharply at 9AM.

If you have any questions, please let me know-otherwise, I will see all of you there at 9AM sharp. Please pass this on to anyone on EMS whom I have missed.

Thanks

To those in need of CEU's, Chris O'Brien of Boulder Rural has said it's fine for Jamestown folks to attend their EMS trainings. They have two training opportunities in October, which may be of interest to people:
Wednesday, 10/11, 7-9 PM – Stroke
Wednesday, 10/25, 6-9 PM – Shock
Both trainings are at Boulder Rural’s station at Jay and Diagonal
He would appreoacieate a headcount, so contact me if you're intersted.
Chris was also nice enough to donate a bunch of fire and EMS magazines, some of which have online CEU programs advertised. They're upstairs at the firehall.

EMS Team:
1. EMS training is Monday, October 23, 2006 at 7 PM at the fire Hall.

2. Everyone needs to have 12 CEUs by the end of this year to stay on the EMS Team as required by BCH. Pridemark will have provided us with 11 training sessions and 15.5 CEUs by the end of the year if you attended all the trainings in town. This means that in order to get the 12 you had to only miss 2 trainings.

If you are under the 12 for the year it is up to you to call other fire departments and get in on their Pridemark training dates. Ed Gage is looking into this, so email or call him. Since we are providing the trainings here in town, any additional expense is not covered by the town (except for CPR). Please don't wait till the end of October to figure this out because you are running out of time. Many departments don't train in December. Call Nederland, Boulder Rural, Gold Hill to see if you can get into their trainings.

I don't believe I ever saw it Jim. You're obviously not talking about the large Orange Rechargable lights that we've had for some time? It's extremely hard to believe that this one has already grown wings and disappeared. I would hope that if someone really did mistakingly walk out with it that it will be returned to the department anonomously if nothing else.

On that note, if we're really feeling like there's a security problem at the Dept we might consider changing the lock box code and passing it out to current members only.

                             August Training

This month we are going to have a guest trainer who will be offering us a (non official)class on the Wild Land Urban Interface. S215.

His name is Rich Palestro-he helped teach our Structure Fire class, he taught the chainsaw class, S130-190, he has a Fire Fighter 2 for structure fire, EMT, the list goes on and on. He is an extremely nice guy, very talented, experienced and he offered to come up and teach for our training day!! So in order to mix things up, I have invited him to attend and teach.

His wife will also be attending and she is just as amazing!

Training is Saturday August 8th 9AM sharp.

p.s I will not be attending as I volunteered my services to Boulder County Parks and Open Space on that day for a small crew and forest thining project. If anyone would like to help further organize this class with Rich, we will be meeting at 5PM this Friday so that I can see the materials and help supply further information he may need about our district. Please feel free to attend the pre training meeting.

I think it was a lightening strike. The line never came down but the insulator melted and started the pole on fire...

Hey Gang -
Regarding our call to Gillespie Spur Rd. late Saturday night. How the heck does a power line fall down in a dead calm? I can understand in an 80 mph wind - but anyway good thing it was wet out, and thanks everyone for the excellent response!

Oops. Was looking at June's calendar. So we'd like to see everyone at training on Saturday. Hopefully the majority can make it. Does anyone want to volunteer to call each firefighter to remind them? It would be appreciated, just so there are no "I didn't know" excuses.

Thanks.

One more note of interest: The State approved the 2007 EMS grant for $16,013 with a Town match of $4,003. The grant will be used for an emergency EMS response vehicle and communications. The overall written and oral presentation of the grant received an excellent rating. Congratulations, Colleen, on a job well done!

Hey All. So the last we talked the plan is to have our July training this Saturday the 3rd of July. The idea is to do a little prep work for the 4th along with training. We'll do some prep work for our following training in August during which we want to do some scenario training.

So... please come, one and all this Saturday at 9AM at the Fire Hall.

Is anyone going to be heading out towards Erie in the next week or so? We have a fireworks finale rack that needs to go out to Stonebraker's by I-25. If there's anyone going that way I'd love to get these things back out there.

Thanks, David

A Special Thank You to folks who helped haul the straw on Saturday for the Mulch the Gulch project. It was a huge success. On Tuesday (tomarrow)there will be around 35-40 volunteers from Wildlands Restoration Volunteers coming to Jamestown and hiking up (via Jenkins property)to the mulching area to spread the straw. I will be driving my truck up (via Mark Mihalik's) and bring a radio and first aid equipment. If we need medical assistance and there is a 911 I will radio it in from the site and transport the victim if possible to the fire hall. If I need help at the site the access will be through Cowboy Mark's gate. If there is a minor situation I may just ask Jamestown EMS to go to Red 3 and communicate from there. I just wanted EMS folks to know what's going on and that our department will be covering any emergency that arises. Please send me an email if you will be in Jamestown on Tuesday.

PLEASE HELP
MULCH THE GULCH 2
OVERLAND FIRE RESTORATION PROJECT
NEEDS MORE TRUCKS AND VOLUNTEERS !

This Saturday we have a great group of people coming together for Overland Fire restoration work in Jamestown. We still need more people to help out, so I’m writing to invite you to invite your fiends and family to join the project. With a few extra hands, we can accomplish even more in a shorter period of time. The gulch area that has flooded the town of Jamestown still needs more mulching to prevent the massive mud slides and erosion.

PROJECT DETAILS – Saturday, June 3, 2006
We will meet at the Church parking lot in Jamestown at 8:00 AM. This is located between the Town Square and Post Office in the center of town across from the Church. Parking is available in the area along the side of the road. Everyone must sign in at the registration table in order to volunteer for this project.

After registering we will have a brief project overview, safety talk, and assign jobs for the morning. Our first task is to uncover the hay bales and load them onto trucks to haul to the project site. We will be driving up to the Swing Road via Mark Mihalic’s driveway. Please be considerate while passing though his property.

Once we arrive at the project site we will unload the hay at strategic locations indicated and then we will cover the straw piles with tarps and go back down to Jamestown. Hopefully, we will be done in a few hours. Wildlands Restoration volunteers will finish spreading the straw on the following Tuesday, June 6, 2006.

WHAT TO BRING
Sturdy boots, long pants and long shirts (no shorts), backpack, rain gear, work gloves, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, drinking water, snack foods, pocket knife, toilet paper and Ziploc baggie. Please bring a hard hat if you have one (optional). We will provide first aid kit, radio communication, extra water, and face mask if needed for people with allergies. Please take your allergy medication before you come if needed.

Please email or call me if you can help in any way, even for a short time. We need anything we can get!!!!!

Dear Fellow JVFD/JEMS: Honeywell Representatives and their fire chief will be in JT on Saturday, May 27 at 11 AM to deliver the fire truck. This has become a very ceremonious occassion with a catered lunch (Merc) with fireman's chili and beverages in the town square, a few speeches (all of which is part of Honeywell's Community Outreach Program). They want to do a photo shoot with all of you (in uniform). They are providing all of you with t-shirts. (Pretty cool actually!)I've been asked to invite representatives from the USFS/CSFS and Commissioners to attend as well. I know this is short notice and it is Memorial Day Weekend, but your attendance, as well as residents, would be most appreciated. More updates will follow. THANK YOU!

Everyone enjoying their Wildland updates? Good Stuff!!

So we've got a line on some Bunker gear from Boulder Rural. It's all between 5 & 7 years old and is generally in good shape. I've had a look through it and I think that it's an improvement over most of the stuff we've got. We want each individual to decide whether they'd like to look for something that will work for them though, we don't want to get stuck with a big unused pile that we've got to do something with.

So, check your gear in the next couple of weeks if you could and let me or Jim know that you'd like to upgrade. What we'll do then is clear it for you to go down to Boulder Rural on your own and pick out a set of gear. I think it will be worth your time to find something that will fit well, they all have suspenders, etc. Why don't we just post here if your interested.

Very good.
