Mistake. You're seeing it wrong.

Once you hit 65, FEHB will only pay as much as Medicare does. Leaving you to pay the diff which can be thousands. Over and over again.

Okay, the way I'm seeing it, keep the Fed insurance and NOT sign up for Medicare B.

Yes Packer, all the Plans change from year to year...so much so, that I call it "Mutating". All those little Holes that appear in your coverage (pay CLOSE attention to your RX coverage) did not used to appear with such regularity. Used to be, a Plan stayed pretty much the same from year to year, with only minor changes - nothing huge. Not anymore. Every year deserves a THOROUGH review of your Plan, and a re-examination of how well it fits your (family's) needs.

Cali: You were LUCKY. We had several Chevy Chevettes in the office I worked at in L.A. and they were all BEASTS. NO power, they all overheated and boiled-over if the temp hit 80 degrees (not hard to do, there)...they were a design worse than the Vega. Even the Pintos we had were trouble-free, by comparison. My Pinto even had A/C :)

My first NEW car was a Chevette and that little thing was a trustworthy little guy. No air, stick - several hot trips to Vegas in it. But my first car was a green Camaro.

Blue Cross is the "Cadillac" plan. The rest are Chevy Chevettes.

Just some more appreciation of Blue Cross Basic (we all know they DO get a lot of money from the p.o. and the insured monthly). I went into urgent care about 3 weeks ago because I gouged myself with some rusted grass/rock edging. I had forgotten that this visit would still only cost my co-pay ($30). Office visit, Dr. exam and a shot came to submitted charges of $234 and after my co-pay and Blue Cross pay out, they received $208. The urgent care received enough for the 15 minutes of labor I required there.

So, I will also be turning 65 this year in Dec. From what I am gathering, if I have BCBS basic and Medicare A and B, I should be all set, right?. What about the wife? She doesn’t turn 65 till the following June. Does she also need to sign up or is covered under me? When would her coverage start?
