BOIL ORDER RESCINDED
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Town of Ward Water
Customers of Town of Ward, Colorado were notified on March 15, 2019
that, due to a loss of water pressure in the distribution system they should boil their drinking water or use bottled water.

We are pleased to report that the problem has been corrected and that it is no longer necessary to boil or use bottled water. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Water Consumers of the Town of Ward Water

  DRINKING WATER WARNING
 Town of Ward (PWSID CO0107834)

BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING
Hiervan el Agua Antes de Usarla

Our drinking water system lost pressure in the distribution system. The loss of pressure in the distribution system may allow disease-causing organisms to enter the water system. The Town of Ward currently operates according to a disinfection waiver and does not provide a disinfectant residual.

What does this mean? What should I do?

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, OR use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

While no contamination has been detected, the loss of pressure in the distribution system may have allowed disease-causing organisms to enter the water system. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.

What happened? What is being done?

In the distribution system just below the highway is a water leak. The leak has grown to a point where water service east of the highway is being interrupted (water service shut off) at least once a day. By doing so we are able to maintain enough water in the tank and provide service at least part time. By closing this valve, we lose all pressure in that portion of the distribution system and potentially allow contaminants into the system. This problem was first discovered on March 11, 2019

To correct the leak Ronnie Seyer, Greta Balzer and others including a leak detection company, are actively trying to pin point where this leak is located. Once located a repair will be made.

We anticipate resolving the problem within one week. For more information, please contact Greta Balzer at 720-235-2062 or Jonathan Ashton at 720-310-8258 or Town of Ward, P.O. Box 124, Ward, CO 8080481. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Water Leak Update 3/11/19
The leak appears to be located between the Hwy and Modoc. It is increasing but is not yet visible. We have a call in to a professional leak detector whom we have used in the past.
He is not available until Thurs.
In the mean time the water will be turned off over night, and may be turned off mid day for 3 to 4 hours.
This water shut off is to make sure we have sufficient water in our tank.
Again we thank you for your patience and understanding.
Best Practice during a leak would be to conserve water when possible, keep 5 gallons on hand, and when running water for freeze protection keep the stream small, less than 1/2 the size of a pencil.

It's been an interesting year here in Way High Radio Land. We survived an attack upon our existence. An attack that challenged our purpose, that rocked us to our core and made us question the route ahead. We righted the ship and kept sailing in the name of Pure Community Radio. The spark that brought this experiment alive in 1997 still lives at the heart of it's being. Nothing fancy, rather rough at the edges, completely unpredictable in true Ward style.

We invite you to join us as we sail out of this last Way High Weekend of 2018. Thank you for being the wind in our sails. Happy New Year!

What I feel is sad is that the Town had any opportunity to use that lot as a community center and try and preserve some of it's history. It couldn't come together on a plan and the people offering to majorly fund the project gave up. Currently the building can only be preserved in essence. There is such major issues with it that it's an inevitable loss. In the last few years it has listed more to the right to the point where it's hard to get the door to work. The supports are bowing and are beginning to crack and dry rot. I'm sure there's a way to rig it for a little while longer as it also has the remnants of the Oddfellows Hall in it. I agree that there is still charm in it's presence but without some tlc it's doomed to be a pile of timbers.
That site is the only town property that is flat and has an existing electric drop. The food building is a trailer that still has it's wheels on it. That request was made by some townspeople at one of the meetings. It could be moved away if necessary, but I feel it is being overlooked as a valuable piece of infrastructure. The town is short on space. It has good electric and is insulated. If the current program were to cease, it could still be put to good use (Water Dept, etc..). I do believe that there are creative ways to make it look better which is why it's getting a roof and siding. This was also requested by townspeople at past meetings. It isn't done yet. The people involved are very open to concerns and suggestions.

My main objection to Wards sustainability program is the decision to place a very ugly structure right in front of one of our lovely historic buildings, as you can see from the painting I did pictured on this page it has been the subject of paintings and photographs for many years. I can't believe this was not brought to the town to decide on such a drastic visual impact on our town.

To the Town of Ward and all who consider themselves a part of it:

I've been gone for the last week or so. Before I left Ward, I was made aware that Ronnie thinks that the Sustainability / Food Program should be shut down because he believes that it is not serving the town and is fostering a homeless situation in town. The Radio station was also implicated as doing the same (proof please). Crystal talked with Ronnie at that point and realized that his opinion seemed to be built upon a lot of misunderstanding. Now I was made aware that a petition is being circulated against the Sustainability / Food Program . I have not seen it. Will somebody please enlighten me as to what it is about and their feelings about this. I will say this, I find it sad that people can't ask questions and communicate with the people involved with these programs to bring up their concerns. It's really not that hard to do. It's a lot easier than making a concerted effort to destroy people's good efforts. Many people have benefitted from the volunteer efforts of this program, including Ronnie. It's not that I don't believe there are valid concerns. I believe that there is a much different way to proceed to get those concerns addressed. In that process, we all go forward and thrive. My question to all of you Wardos is this, do you want to go forward and build upon these ideas or do you want to rip it all down and have it all just be a fond memory?

Sounds like this issue will be on the agenda at the town meeting on this Monday, Nov 5th at 7pm. See ya there.

I found this little vacant fixer for sale in the town of Ward- https://www.patrickbrowngroup.com/listing/...nd-m-ward-co-80481/

I can see the place has been vacant for awhile probably a few winters and will need to be gutted, but it isn't my first rodeo.

I'm from Denver and I'm thinking about buying it fixing up slowly and using as a weekend cottage for me and my family.

Any words of wisdom or warnings for a potential new neighbor???!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Lee Hill Drive Construction Update - Road closures ending Tuesday evening, Aug. 14.
I learned today that construction is going well and that the full-road closures will no longer be necessary after 6 p.m. next Tuesday, Aug. 14. There will still be work taking place during the day, but one lane will remain open at all times and crews will use flaggers to move travelers safely through the work zone. The road will be returned to a two-lane configuration each evening.

After the current culvert project is complete, another contractor will begin the concrete work that needs to be completed before repaving operations can take place. The road will not be closed during this phase of the project, but there will be daytime lane closures and flaggers will be utilized to guide people around active work areas. Repaving Lee Hill Drive and Deer Trail is anticipated to take place next spring.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during our work.
Let me know if you have questions.
Have a good evening.

Lee Hill Drive weekday closures start Monday for culvert project - Closures in place 24-7 from Monday morning through Thursday evening every week

Boulder County Transportation will begin a reconstruction project to replace a large culvert on Lee Hill Drive starting Monday, July 9. The project will require weekday closures of Lee Hill Drive from Monday, July 9 through Thursday, Aug. 16, weather permitting. Construction will continue through September, but the full-roadway closure will not be necessary the entire time.

Closure of Lee Hill Drive at Six Mile Creek This Summer

Phase I of this project will involve replacement of a failing culvert at Six Mile Creek, which is located near 3250 Lee Hill Drive, approximately halfway between Olde Stage Road and Deer Trail Drive. Lee Hill Drive will be closed to all traffic at Six Mile Creek, 24-hours a day in both directions, from 7 a.m. on Mondays through 6 p.m. on Thursdays, until we can maintain a safe travel lane. From 6 p.m. on Thursdays through 7 a.m. on Mondays, a traffic signal will be used as Lee Hill Drive will be reduced to a single lane of travel.
Emergency responders have been notified of the work and and contingency plans have been put in place to ensure they can get through the work zone at all times to assist with emergencies.

Residents living west of the closure location, which includes the Boulder Heights subdivision, will be detoured to Lefthand Canyon Drive. Residents living east of the closure area can use Lee Hill Drive to access their property. The closure will be in effect for all travelers (motor vehicles and cyclists).

Construction will continue later this year, as a county contractor will be installing concrete curb and gutter approximately 1,500 feet up Lee Hill Drive from Olde Stage Road. Lane closures are anticipated during this work with single lane of traffic controlled by a traffic signal on nights and weekends.

The entire stretch of Lee Hill Drive from Olde Stage Road to Deer Trail Road, along with the entirety of Deer Trail will be repaved in 2019 and all guardrail will be replaced. More details will be provided prior to construction.

For more information on this project, visit www.LeeHillDrive.com or contact Boulder County Transportation at 303-441-3900. All current Boulder County Transportation road project information is available at www.BoCoConeZones.com.

Last Saturday morning, I dropped off some items at the annual Ward cleanup day. In the process, my Leatherman "Wingman" multi-tool somehow became disassociated from the interior of my van. I am fairly certain that it happened while the van was being unloaded at Ward. While it's not tremendously expensive, or hard to find another, it has a personal value to me. It does have a laser-etched marking that makes it uniquely identifiable. If anyone here has seen it (not likely) or knows anyone who might have seen it or heard of it (more likely), please let me know. Ward phone exchange, x.0305, or nmiexi - at- geemail. Thanks.

FYI: Boulder County has joined forces with a variety of local organizations to address the food waste issues in our county and county. Very exciting. This is the beginning of a long term effort.

Did you know that the average American tosses nearly 300 lbs of food each year? Boulder County, Boulder Food Rescue, The Boulder County Sustainability Program, BVSD School Food Project, PACE, Community Food Share, City of Boulder, Longmont Food Rescue, Uproot Colorado, Post Action Landfill Network, and the Resource Conservation Advisory Board to change that!

Join individuals and organizations across the county this April 16-22 for Boulder County’s first annual Food Waste Awareness Week. Throughout the week, Boulder County and its partners will be hosting a series of events to bring awareness to this issue in our community, across the country and around the world. Community members can join us for the following events:

● A screening of Just Eat It, an investigation of food waste from the farm to the fridge. (The Nederland Community Center will also be hosting a showing of this in the near future)

● Tour of Boulder Food Rescue

● Volunteering at Community Food Share

We will also be sharing food waste information, waste reduction tips, food reuse recipes from area chefs and other important food waste messages on social media and through an email newsletter.

● Sign up to receive updates at www.bouldercounty.org/food-waste and encourage other to sign up as well.

● Follow Boulder County on Facebook or Twitter and share our upcoming events on social media and your website or newsletter.

On Saturday night I bore witness to the aftermath of a very sad accident half a mile above the Eldora turnoff, and Ned writer Denise Boehler tells the story in the link below. We all - myself included - should slow down in wildlife corridors and use high beams at night when not in heavy traffic. Accidents can happen to any of us regardless, but when we injure wildlife with our vehicles, we can use the free Animal Help Now app or ahnow.org to seek help. The app works offline. Next time you encounter a wildlife emergency, you may be glad to have the app downloaded on your phone and might save a life. We'll be seeing increased moose activity on the roads through May. https://wildsight.co/whose-world-doesnt-st...-across-their-path/

Mountain Democrats, it's time get some representation in the statehouse and beyond in 2018! This year we have mid-term elections, and we're voting a in new governor for Colorado. Decide who gets on the primary ballot and join us for caucus! The Mountain Democratic caucus (precinct 914 and 915, or Ward, Jamestown, Rowena, Raymon, Riverside, Bar K, and everything in between) is this Tuesday March 6 2018 from 6-9pm at Jamestown Elementary school, and we need you- to elect delegates. Pre-register/sign up early for caucus (you need to be a registered Democrat to register for/vote in the caucus) at BoCoDems.org to make your check in smooth.
We also need a few good volunteers for about an hours work checking people in on Tuesday. Call me at 3/459-3426 for details, or come the school at 5:30 on Tuesday (check in starts at 6pm.)

This is what democracy looks like! Let mountain voices be heard!

Note: Unaffiliated/independent voters can come and observe (or volunteer for) the caucus, but you may not vote. This is more like a party team meeting. However, you can vote in the primaries this summer! Yay!

Pile burning expected near Ward, Nederland, Raymond, Ceran St. Vrain
U.S. Forest Service crews successfully burned more than 1000 slash piles last week in the James Creek Project area, for a total of more than 5,000 piles burned to date.
Depending on conditions this week, burning will continue in the following areas:
James Creek Project: 1 Mile North East of Ward
Lump Gulch Project: West of Nederland 1 mile Southeast of high school
James Creek Project: Quarter mile west of Raymond. Potential smoke impacts to Peaceful Valley, Raymond, Riverside, Allenspark, Bar K Subdivision; and,
James Creek Project: 2 miles east of Peak to Peak on Overland Rd. at Ceran Saint Vrain Trailhead. Potential smoke impacts to Sky View Estates, Glacier View , Bar K subdivision Gold Lake, Jamestown.
Public and firefighter safety is always the number one priority in burning operations. Wind helps disperse smoke created during pile burning operations and snow helps keep the piles contained. Seeing flames and smoke, even after dark, is part of normal operations. This is one way that we can help reduce the buildup of fuels on the landscape under the safest conditions.
Conditions are evaluated each day to determine if ignition will take place. Precipitation, wind, temperature, fuel moisture and staffing all play a part in when and whether ignition occurs. Ignitions are generally expected to begin after 10 a.m. and will cease several hours before sunset. Firefighters monitor the area after burning is complete.
If you know anyone else who would like to receive updates on pile burning activities in the Boulder Ranger District area, have them email krarmstrong@fs.fed.us and ask to be added to our email updates.
A complete list of areas where pile burning could occur on the Boulder Ranger District this season is located at: http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4648/

Be a friend to an older adult – volunteers needed
The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging seeks volunteers to visit older adults who are experiencing isolation or compromised health. Volunteers are matched with one partner and may share conversation, take a walk, go shopping, or simply enjoy the pleasure of each other's company during two-hour weekly visits. Volunteers serve as companions; they do not provide hands-on care. Volunteers must be 21, pass a background check, make a six month commitment, and attend an annual training. For more information or to apply, visit the Respite and Companion Volunteer web page.

"The revelations by Donna Brazile regarding Hilary Clinton's manipulation of the primary are the
precise reason that I urge you to support Mark Williams."

Mark is an outsider progressive candidate, and the BoCo Dems don't want him on the ballot
but we can change that by campaigning. I've met him, and endorse him.

We will be having a weekend class in the near future in one of our mountain communities for people interested in becoming licensed as amateur radio operators- what most of us call ham radio. The AirLink ham community is actively working to improve the radio coverage in Jamestown and other areas of western Boulder County. We plan to have the Jamestown installation in place before the end of this year.

It is not expensive to get involved. The fee for the licensing test is only $15. Most people can use a small hand held radio you can purchase for around $40. There occasionally are free radios available. It also doesn't require any previous technical knowledge or skills.

Ham radio works when power is out and no other means of communication work. This makes it an important tool during emergencies. It also is a nice way to meet people interested in mountain living and supporting the mountain communities.

If you have an interest in the class or want to know more, please contact

Hi, I am part of the team working on the the old Rangeview Ranch by Hazel Schmoll -- 183 acre property with lodge (just west of Glacier View conference center) . WE ARE IN NEED OF A LICENSED PLUMBER, ELECTRICIAN AND GENERAL CONTRACTOR to bring the lodge up to code! We have put out several feelers, but need your help in locating these professionals in the local area--because everyone appears so busy! Please email me directly with any names, referrals, or idea. Hey all, sorry for the Spam-a-thon. For some reason the Sign-in requirement was reversed and I missed the last days of BS. It's turned on again now so to post you'll have to sign in and won't be able to reply to an email to post. Not big price to pay for eliminating the spam though. Enjoy the oasis that is Ward in the summertime! David
