Well put 42-7. I as well have known former coworkers to investigate the Ppo position.
After doing the comparisons it was always the better decision to stay in their current positions. The lack of retreat rights is a huge turnoff as most view the move as a bit of a gamble. The uncertainty always surrounding the future of the position doesn't help and of course making less money is never good!

I think there's a high percentage that made the move to Ppo from another craft thinking it would be a much better job. Unfortunately for them they found out it wasn't and had no retreat rights to boot. The topper is watching the other crafts get better contracts and hearing about the kind of money they make compared to a Ppo. Once you make that move to Ppo there's no turning back. I've known quite a few carriers over the years that started the process to become a Ppo. After careful consideration and weighing pros and cons they realize they are better off where they are.
This lack of a decent contract is a moral killer for sure.

Nobody forced you to become or stay a PPO for life you made that choice.

Could be a class late summer/early fall.
Obviously the job isn't going anywhere

Inspectors have a job to do and you can't get on them just because you may be unhappy with your job as a Ppo. Envy/jealousy is a wasted emotion. Obviously a nice raise/contract will go a long way for moral.
Anybody know if they are planning any academies for 2018?

Just watch the Saturday morning farce of a television show called “The Inspectors.” It should have a laugh track. For a bigger laugh, check YouTube for the comedy “We are the Inspection Service.”

Inspectors are the real joke. No dangers. No “availability” hours (despite the pay). Take home cars (for no reason) and wasting government fuel. Taking full credit for collars and arrests made by locals (and PPOs). Responding to incidents two hours after they occur and after every scene is rendered safe.

True for years they talked of getting rid of us, then they talk about take home weapons, then they flip again and say we are not first responder's then they say we are essential personnel. plant managers and postmaster want the official police uniformed personnel and headquarters wants to pay us like guards, but use us as police. the fastest postal inspector response we get after hours is about 2 to 3hrs.

After carrying mail for 7 years I became a PPO in 1984. The day I reported to work I started hearing rumors of the demise of PPOs. Surprise, y6'all are still here.

If they planned on abolishing us they would have cancelled the academy class.

What is the need that private security or postal inspectors don't cover? Or for that matter light duty mailhandlers.

Don't forget that you gave up all retreat rights when you took the job it's a good thing that unemployment is low the lines won't be so long.

Ppos are needed and serve a purpose in the areas they need to be in. The job is more about prevention of crime and should be viewed as such
