/m2703 ET Blue, you're definitely qualified to carry my tool bag. Thank for telling us how much you're worth.

Yep I got a few maintenace stories also, the good, the bad and the ugly. I will start with the good. I came, I saw, I went. One day I decided to make up a song about being "on call" on the floor as an ET. It was called ET Blues. Those who heard it at the PO thought it was funny. It was done in jest. When I get overtime I tell people that now I am being paid what I am worth. :) Next is some of the bad. My union steward I will admit was a nice guy but he was limited in his ability to do certain things. He later became a maintenance supervisor that lacked the ability to perform his job. An example is he could not use a computer so he got another supervisor to do his "paper work". This went on for a long time until the supervisor that was doing his paper work got fed up and told him to do his own. He was in trouble from that point on. He later got transferred to another facility and only stayed there 1 week then suddenly retired without warning. This was because he did not have the ability to be a supervisor in the first place. I will post about the ugly story later.

/m2701 I can not tell you how many times I have filled charges against my local union for various thing. I have even went to the national labor relations board (NLRB) and filled complaints. all these things work. also attend union meetings and make motions to cause changes. run for office and make more changes. you have to be willing to work within the system, because once you drop out of the union you have no voice.
the contract is not perfect but without it you would make just above minimum wage.
postal unions walk a thin line when it comes to representing members and non members. labor law states non members do not get all the rights as members.

Dear Postal vet
I have few question for you. What is fellow Union member to do when Union Officials From THE ACD and Presidents fail to respond to the members or their stewards. They only recourse they have is to leave the Union. So when Union officials start calling people Scabs they need to reflect on what they have done. So Until Union Officials Start showing that they are looking out for all members regardless of their occupational group we will never be able to build a strong Union. ALL we will have is a self serving Union that seem to looking out for themselves.

/m2697 In order to become a Level 7 Maintenance Mechanic (MM) you had to take the 955 Exam. The 955 Exam also covers Level 9 Mail Processing Equipment (MPE) Maintenance Mechanic, Level 9 Building Equipment Mechanic (BEM), and Level 10 Electronic Technician (ET). The Notice Of Result that you received from the testing facility will either have a numerical score or state "ineligible" for each position. Also, your facility has to have these positions in the facility. You cannot be promoted to a position that does not exist in your facility. Read Article 38.5.B of the Collective Bargaining Agreement which you can find at APWU.org.

/m2684 Your post brought back memories. We had a dumb boss. He didn't even like me, but because I was the senior employee he would offer me the overtime first, everytime. I knew he was wrong, but I'd work it anyway. I'd taunt my buddies. I'd imitate the dumb boss's voice. "We go by seniority". HAHA

/m2694 you call yourself a scab and except to be treated with respect? WHY?

it is obvious you are and ET a lot of ET's I have known have a fat head like you. this is NOT a job to get rich. yes ET's get more money some where else but postal employees are covered by the us code which states compatible wages in LIKE industries! ups and fedex do not have an ET category so NOTHING to compare with. I am all about the union because I know the history of the post office without a union!

don't like it, do what the smart ET's in san diego did, go work at spawars.

Postalvet, I used to respect your comments, now I realize that you are only posting to try to make yourself feel good about knowing something. the APWU is the worst union in the country. They do manage to get us decent pay, but most electronic techs in the real world are making considerably more, with way better benefits. Our healthcare sucks, just like our (or YOUR) union does...

/m2692 hey scabhole I worked 38 years and never goofed off!

without the union you would be making minimum wage.

go crawl back into your scab hole!

/m2689 do you ever go out on the floor to do your job, or do you use the union as an excuse to stay on your ass. Management will allow you to sit on your ass as long as you leave them alone and don't file anything. that's the way this system that you call a union works. so go suck on yourself, you good for nothing piece of shit union puke. Who actually reads that trash in the national magazine? someone sitting on their ass at work, that's who!
