/m2727 in san diego there was only one person assigned to the battery room while I was still working.
if you follow safety practices there should be no issue.

if you feel it is unsafe file a 1767 and or file a osha complaint to set a new policy or reaffirm what is already in place.

Does any one know if there are suppose to be more than one person in the battery room at large P & DCs? On a couple tours at our facility, there is only one and we feel there should be a buddy system used.
  Any insight would be helpful.

Can my retirement start on my 56th birthday with 30 years of service, or do I have to pick the next day? Thanks

Mechanic & Anti Union Thks for the responses and different ways to look at it. Spoke to my former Maintenance. Mgr. he explained that he currently didn't have any MPE positions available only Maintenance Mech. He said that it would be a loooong time before any MPE positions became became available at his location. He was puzzled about the fact I passed for MPE & not MM or at least both. He's currently only hiring MM. he also questioned why they had me take an inservice exam vs an Incraft exam.I explained that's what was emailed out to all the AO and my supervisor passed the email to me. He asked why didn't I receive the incraft exam test 30 days after converting. I had no clue that was suppose to be offered to me until a week last month. I have to do a follow-up call today to see what the outcome of any is. He was trying to get me in contact with a union steward at the plant provided I don't have one at my AO. He also said I may just want to wait 120 days & retake the exam and try to pass for MM. I'm like that's a Big Gamble provided they throw out your passing score anytime you retake the exam. That could leave me stuck as a Laborer Custodial level 4. I switched crafts 2yrs ago and took a nice pay cut solely to be a MPE. But hey I'll keep you guys informed Thks again. Let go let god

well Mechanic, You're wrong, but who really cares, the union will let them do whatever they want anyway, as long as the stewards get themselves a detail. that's a fact. happens over and over here. again and again, even the jr stewards will get the detail over sr people, because we can only spare someone who has tues and wed off. lol its all a joke. but keep believing whatever you want.

/m2719 "...and just because you qualified for MPE doesn't make you qualified for MM. You have to pass that part of the test also. I have someone who qualified for ET and failed both MM and MPE. He was brought on as an ET when it was his turn on the register."

You don't know what you're talking about, scab.
the 955 is designed so that if you passed a certain skill set, you're qualified for MM, the MPE had to pass at least that same skill set and more complex skills. ETs is also the same.
You can't be doing calculus without knowing trigonometry, geometry and algebra.

they cant just give you a posn to see how "mechanically inclined" you are. If there is a posn and your the next qualified person, then you get it. If you are qualified, then you are qualified, regardless if you can do the job or not.

and just because you qualified for MPE doesn't make you qualified for MM. You have to pass that part of the test also. I have someone who qualified for ET and failed both MM and MPE. He was brought on as an ET when it was his turn on the register.

/m2716 Your comments are a bit confusing. The 955 exam covers 3 levels of "qualification" in the maintenance department, starting from the lowest:

1/ Maintenance Mechanic
2/ MPE
3/ ET

If you passed MPE, it's implied that you're qualified for MM as well. If I was the head honcho, I would offer you an MM position to see how you're "mechanically inclined". There are people who passed the exams with flying colors but never used hand tools or look at a drawing and know how to take things apart. After you accepted the MM, you can always move up to higher levels provided that you pass the exams and trainings at NCED.

Good luck.
