I am on a meditation retreat at my home from Nov 19th thru Dec 19th. During this time it is possibke that you may see me taking a walk, taking the (Tyler’s) dog out or getting groceries. Should you encounter me during this time I won’t be very talkative.
If there is an emergency or an especially compelling need to see me (can’t imagine) then of course contact me. Btw Wendy is doing the same thing at the same time but she will be down in Crestone. Hope the month goes well for everyone.

In Memory of
Janice June Hill
June 11, 1939 - November 2, 2017
-----------------------------------
We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic

Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic
And when that foghorn blows I will be coming home

And when that foghorn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic

And when that foghorn blows you know I will be coming home
And when that foghorn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on girl
Too late to stop now

Into The mystic

John and I did a little trail clearing today and cut a nice Christmas tree. It's sitting there up the gulch just past Kristi and Aaron's on the right side of the trail for anyone who wants it. It's a 'better than Charlie Brown' spruce, not perfect but pretty good, could be lopped off the bottom to be a bit smaller and be pretty cute. If you go to where we cut it's just before, it'll still be fresh tomorrow.

FYI, there is a BIG snag hanging right in that area, so don't loiter there. But it's a cute tree, get it!

Jimtown Vinylbillys! I am just sitting here listening to the Queen City Jazz Band, quayfing a frosty, an had a lightbulb flash in my pate. As a winter diversion, wouldn't it be fun for us platter heads to get together once a week, rotating listening locations, bringing some lushious slabs of wax and sitting around listening to toonz and drinking brews and maybe playing bones and digging properly rendered melodies in a comraderly exstatic abandon? If this appeals to your sense of musical adventurness, let me know and we'll get it motervating. Kick it around in your noodle.

Snake van Habanero's Saturday Matinee - This week, something a little different. As homage to and celebration of the Hill family I am showing "BELIZAIRE THE CAJUN". I'm going to show it between 9:00 and 11:00 so I can sneak over to June's memorial gathering at the town hall. I hope a few early birds can join me. I always enjoy some company.

Hey All, any "Hikers, Dog Walkers" with a running chainsaw that would be up for clearing a couple-three trees blocking the trail
just above Aaron and Kristi's house (this is the gulch that runs down from Owens Flats to Ward St/Jim Creek). 5 minute hike from the West end of Mesa.
I am willing to be your: helper/gopher/chainsaw operator; if anyone is up to the task. 15-20 minute project and would be nice to get that done B4 the snows come.

Let me know.

Flashlight safety:

In order to protect themselves, workers should follow these precautions:

Read and follow manufacturers’ recommendations for product use
DO NOT MIX batteries of different brands
DO NOT MIX old and new batteries
DO NOT MIX alkaline with nonalkaline batteries
DO NOT USE damaged batteries
Ensure that proper polarity is observed when installing batteries
PRIOR TO THEIR USE IN FLAMMABLE ATMOSPHERES, inspect approved battery-powered flashlights to ensure that the batteries are in good condition, and that the proper batteries are installed correctly. Opening the battery compartment should allow any accumulated H2 to dissipate. DO NOT inspect the flashlight in a hazardous area or near an open flame.

PSA: I just ran across a story of exploding flashlight in a mechanics blog. Then I googled it, seems to happen often enough to share. If you have a weather, water, air tight type of flashlight with replaceable batteries and don't use it often, maybe you keep it in your, car or somewhere tucked away for emergencies. Evidently the batteries can leak explosive gases into the case and when you turn it on, boom. I can't recommend a safe way to check, other than thick gloves, face shield, and out doors to open it up and release the gases and check for any signs of corrosion on the batteries. DO NOT TURN IT ON before checking if you haven't used it in a while. Maybe our VFD members might have some suggestions of how to handle this if you have concerns. Not trying to create a panic, flashlights are just something most of us take for granted. After all it's just a flashlight...

Catharsis On The Mall, A Vigil for Healing

Jaye Brotherton of Jamestown, Colo., center, and Ben Harper, right, work on the installation of the "Nataraja" artwork by Emma Hardy. This weekend's event plans to bring a taste of Burning Man to the National Mall in Washington. The "Nataraja" was a part of last year's TransFOAMation Camp at Burning Man. For those of you that play in the snow in the Brainard area...

https://www.bouldercounty.org/transportati...ects/brainard-road/

Brainard Road reconstruction begins Wednesday, Nov. 15
Periodic closures continue through the Winter 2018; Full 24-hour closures of Brainard Road planned March to June 2018
Boulder County, Colo. - The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highways Administration (CFLHD), in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and Boulder County Transportation, will begin reconstruction of Brainard Lake Road between the Peak-to-Peak Highway (SH 72) and the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. The construction will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 15. During initial construction this winter, Brainard Road will be closed at Highway 72 to all users (bikes and cars) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays. The road will be open on major holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The road closures are weather dependent. Updates to the schedule and closure information will be posted at www.BrainardRoad.com.
The next phase of construction on Brainard Road is scheduled to start Thursday, March 1 and continue through the end of July 2018. In order to provide for uninterrupted construction and a safe work zone, Brainard Road will be closed to all users (cars and bikes) 24-hours per day, seven days per week from March 1 through June 28.
Project Improvements:
• Full reconstruction of 2.5 miles of Brainard Lake Road
• Increased roadway width
• Four-foot shoulder in the uphill/westbound lane to improve safety, assist with snow removal, and provide additional space for cyclists and pedestrians
• Source water protection for the Town of Ward’s water supply
• Speed mitigation devices in advance of tighter curves.
For more information on this work, visit the project website, or contact Andrew Barth at abarth@bouldercounty.org or 303-441-1032. All current Boulder County Transportation project information is available at www.BoCoConeZones.com.

Hi all!
I'm interested in finding a dog sitter. I will have two dogs at my home in Jamestown in January.
A few nights a week I have to be down in Boulder, and on the occasional weekend I have to be out for much of the days.
I'm hoping to have a relationship with someone who could come and feed/play with the dogs, as well as stop by in a pinch in case I get caught somewhere and can't get back. Occasionally I might also need a sleepover or weekend with them.
Taking the dogs to your home is also an option if you prefer!
Thanks!!!

"The revelations by Donna Brazile regarding Hilary Clinton's manipulation of the primary are the
precise reason that I urge you to support Mark Williams."

Mark is an outsider progressive candidate, and the BoCo Dems don't want him on the ballot
but we can change that by campaigning. I've met him, and endorse him.

Anyone have a recommendation for a quieter, not-very-expensive, restaurant in Denver? I need some ideas when we're down there this weekend. All types of food!

Snake van Habanero's Halloween Axe-travaganza. Hola you stressed-out halloween kooks, admirers of Joe Bob Briggs, and sublimated maniacs. Tonight I'll be viddying an adult portion of edge of the seat chicken-guts-and-jello distraction from 4:00 till eight or nine. If you've nothing else to do drop on by any old time for a short or long dose of the real thing. I always enjoy some company. The drive-in will never Die!

Happy Halloween! The School Halloween Party at the Town Hall will run from 5 to 6 pm. Followed by Trick or Treat from 6-7 pm. If you have treats for the ghouls and goblins, please put your porch light on. If the kids never seem to make it to your house, and you end up eating all that candy by yourself, please come to the Town Hall around 5:45 with your bowl of goodies and catch all the adorably costumed kids before they head out on the town.

I’ve seen that black fox too at the bottom of our driveway, coming around the bend on Spruce St. I thought it was a cat or dog at first but definitely a fox. Beautiful little guy.

We need a few items for our kids Halloween haunted house on Tuesday evening at the Town Hall.
1. A stack of old newspapers - about 3 to 4 inches thick;
2. A full rubber Halloween mask;

Also, would anyone be willing to dress up in a scary (but not too scary) costume for the haunted house? You must provide your own costume. The haunted house goes from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Call me at 72o-335-778l.

Thanks,

Matt

I'm looking for 2 people to help with traffic control on Halloween (Tuesday) night from 6:00pm to 7:00pm or so. Our firefighters are busy and unable to help as they have so many times before. It'd be a great way to participate in our community and help keep our kiddos safe! If interested, call Matt at 72o-335-778l. Thanks!

Snake van Habanero's Saturday Matinee - 2:00-4:00: This week something a little different. Robert Altman's "COME BACK TO THE FIVE-AND-DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN". I think it's based on a play with a pretty much all female cast who gather together in a little dime store in Texas to hold their twenty year reunion of the Jimmy Dean Fan Club they formed in their teens. It goes without saying there has been a lot of water flowing under the bridge. Anyways, it's got some terrific acting by terrific actresses and I always enjoy some company. Altho it is mostly about women it's not really a "chick-flick" and I think some of the masculine persuasion would enjoy it.

I think we have all of the details about the HAM radio class . . .
(somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

NOTE: The class is NOT required to take the test, but most people like taking the class--it provides a lot of hands-on learning.

THE CLASS:
Next Saturday and Sunday, Nov 4 and 5
Saturday 9am - 3pm
Sunday 10am - 3pm

At Poorman Fire Station (1740 Fourmile Canyon Dr, Boulder)--parking on the top level.
(Bring your own food; there's a kitchen with microwave, etc.)

Cost: $0.00

THE BOOK:
(Very helpful to read it before the class)
"HamRadioSchool.com Technician License Course" by Stu Turner.
$22 (but there may be some free copies we can share).

https://www.amazon.com/HamRadioSchool-com-...tu+turner+ham+radio

PRACTICE TEST:
Just create a login on the QRZ website: https://www.qrz.com/hamtest
Then you can practice and, if interrupted, return and pick up where you left off.

THE TEST:
George, the class teacher, sets it up for sometime after the class (possibly a week later), with input about the date from class attendees and the volunteer testers.

LICENSING FEE: $15.00

RADIO COST:
About $40 for a small handheld radio (but sometimes there are free radios available).

MORE INFO or TO SIGN UP:
Contact George Weber, the teacher (ka0bsa@gmail.com)

WHY DO THIS:
By end of year, JT will be part of the existing AirLink mountain town ham radio network. It would be great to have more radio operators in town. "HAMing it up" can be fun AND could help with residents' emergency communications--if phones are out, radios still work.

I've worked on the emergency communications grant this year with the AirLink folks, and they're a great group of people. They're all mountain people and would fit right in to JT.

So sign up now and become a Jimbilly HAM!

Free stuff in front of my house at 73 Spruce (up 16th and east on Spruce). Plywood, lots of decorative flower pots, plastic fencing, 3 electric weed whackers, tent stakes, a cast iron skillet, used golf balls (some slightly dog-chewed) and some other stuff that I can't even identify. Come and help me clean out my garage.
