I was wondering what the early morning performance was about. It was difficult to hear at first from my yard due to the barking dog, felt sorry for the women trying to sing over and around it. Quite distracting and detracting from the whole experience.

From the Long Shot Dept: I'm trying to locate a colorful fedora type hat that I believe went missing on the 4th. I was wearing it much of the day. Only realizing now it might really be missing. Saw some pics of it from the 4th but not finding them now to post. Any sighting, please call David 720-530-0097. Thanks!

Hello friends and neighbors! There is a new, fun box in the Merc waiting to be filled with your gently used shoes ! These will be donated to an orphanage in Arusha Tanzania. There is a groovy brochure there as well, to tell you all about the Non Profit We VOL who is sponsoring this shoe drive. The kids will really benefit from anything you can pass on. Adult and kids' shoes accepted.. any style. The organization distributes shoes beyond the scope of this orphanage as well I will try to post a pic of the kids in Arusha and the orphanage a little later. We are collecting shoes through the end of September. I will also be at the java jam gig to tell you all about it in person. You know you need more closet space. And, if you would like, I am happy to pick up your donations in person. Give me a call/text at seven 2 oh- 4nine0- 5 nine nine 8. Thank you SO much!!!

Sit down and take off your hat. If you have a youngster with you perhaps he will come near. Sampson is not dangerous just probably very hungry by now. Maybe report the sighting to Animal Control so they can figure out how to catch him. As the poster says, he does like other dogs.

Hey JimBillies ~
It appears that the Bear Tracker is not working again and i am just now able to get back online myself. (gotta love technology~until it don't work)

BREAKING NEWS!!! OUR BEARS are back from vacation and roaming our fair city. Multiple recent sightings (THANKS for posting here and on the Bear Tracker). We have 3 Bears for sure and maybe 1-2 more in our area. There is a "baby bear" hanging around (Mesa St) who is quite curious but more important to note, his/her MOM is possibly around too. That means "Be Careful". Mama Bears can be protective toward their young!

Please keep posting, do not let Our Bears feel welcome in town or they will get into trouble and be at risk sooner or later. IF you are new to town and don't know what to do to protect your car and home from Bear intrusions, please post here or contact one of us SOBs and we will respond.

Keep your cars clean and locked. Stash your trash. Clean your grill after use. And please help us Save Our Bears by doing your part to KEEP THEM WILD.

With gratitude,

~SOB john

Oak,the buckets are most likely locked up in the Rubbermaid storage box at Riparian Way. We've had a weekly watering schedule for families this summer. I know our family fulfilled our watering duties as did some other families I know of. I'm sure the trees are grateful for the extra attention too!

Dear Friends of the JT Elementary School,

Joy and i have been watering the trees down at the kid's park, sporadically, since you put them in there, but someone took our bucket away.
And then, another bucket.
Those trees need water, and were practically keeling over —
i brought some of the kid's buckets from the playground to replace them, and watered each tree this evening, but they need tending to.
They want way more water than just what falls from the sky, even on this fairly wet summer........buckets and buckets every week till they grow roots deep enough to reach the water table.
Can we get some volunteers to help, please?
The trees and we thank you.

I'd like to plug Lynn's bookcase. I'm not sure he made it clear that it's hand crafted by Lynn and he always does a fine job. Over the years we've had him build various pieces of furniture for us including a table, two entertainment center cabinets and a CD cabinet. If we weren't downsizing I'd grab his bookcase myself which by the way is very reasonably priced.

It is with heavy heart, Rob and I want to share with those that knew and loved our Golden Retriever Shelbie, she has gone on to her next adventure. Shelbie lived a good long life of 15 and has been suffering from Dementia. She is no longer suffering and is playing ball with her brother Java, and her old friend Sonny and her other friends from Jamestown that have gone before her. She was an amazing sweet dog and a great companion and friend! She loved playing ball, playing in the creek, hiking, blazing through snow and most of all hanging out with her peeps. May she hang out with my Dad, her Gpa and keep him and my Mom company in heaven. Until we meet again our sweet girl!
Thank you to the best Dr. Lisa Cass, for making the transition so peaceful, calm and comfortable for all of us! We couldn't have done it without your support!

You folks seem to find all sorts of stuff in your yards and on your porches. At first I thought I must being doing something wrong, then it hit me, why would I want this kind of excitement...

I do have a neighbor that takes 'Consideration' to a Higher Level, by picking up puppy droppings without having to be asked or reminded. Some folks just Think a little deeper.

I haven't seen hide nor hair of a bear this season, not that I haven't been looking, I just don't go looking for them. I'm assuming there is plenty of their natural food sources around, but they must be getting tastier treats elsewhere.

Hey Jamestown,’if you see some house for sale signs around town, that’s us. Our house was listed today amidst a flurry of emotions, many of them sad. We’ve decided to move to a smallish town in Arizona called Cottonwood, about 20 minutes from Sedona. It will be extremely hard for me to leave this place. In fact, I thought I never would. But alas, it seems the right thing to do all things considered. We’ll be around for some time until our house sells and then we have to find another in Cottonwood. So our immediate plan is to discover one day at a time. We owe special gratitude to friends who helped us get to this point. You know who you are.

I look forward to getting back to a consistent practice with my neighbors over the fall and winter months. Keep your eyes out for information!

This is about dog shit.

In recent years, folks have been getting better about not letting their dogs roam and picking up their dog’s deposits. It doesn’t go unnoticed, and the show of environmental and social responsibility and community courtesy is appreciated by all. Sadly, some roamer is crapping in my high-maintenance yard. I’ve never been secretive about how I feel about this, and I know many of you feel the same way given the recent laughs over public shaming of offenders. We all know it’s not the dog’s fault.

So if your dog is crapping in my yard, please be awesome, pick it up and put an end to it. Should it continue, the cameras are on and an officer will present you with a framed photo and a ticket.

Fellow Jamestonians,

For those interested here is a synopsis -as requested on the QT- of the August 24 Firewise public meeting and a summary of wildfire safety efforts that are afoot:

There are two distinct areas of initiative. One is all about the local -within Jamestown Town limits- homeowner wildfire issues; this is the Firewise part. The other involves the agencies and stakeholders of the geographic area surrounding Jamestown; this is called a CWPP or Community Wildfire Protection Plan. We are going to be working on both goals simultaneously.

A steering committee supervising these joint efforts is comprised of JVFD Chief Arne Metzger, Jamestown Mayor Ken Lenarcic and myself, Allan Mueller. There is a standing committee now, derived from interest at the August 24 meeting, to facilitate the Firewise part, consisting of Nancy Loving, Barbara Byrnes-Lenarcic, Randy Oxley, Greg Alston, David Lindquist, Jim McGinley and Allan Mueller. Thank you, much, to these folks for stepping forward to move this along. Another group will be formed to address the requirements to becoming a CWPP as we proceed. The CWPP will make it much easier to work with, and get mitigation help from, surrounding entities like NFS, LVFD, JCWI, LWOG, CSFS, OEM, BCEM, Calwood, Balarat and other neighboring stakeholders. (I think I just won a bet about using the most acronyms in one sentence.)

The meeting on the 24th presented a lot of hard, scientific information about how wildfire spreads in a built-up area of homes and forest mixed. A couple of videos in particular were very instructive. These will be shown again at future gathering, no doubt.

The “next step” in the Firewise effort is to gradually gain the trust and understanding of individual property owners so that they are willing to sign up to have an assessment of the wildfire issues on their properties, both the landscape and the building aspects. There have been a number of folks in town who have already gone through this process in Jamestown, usually as a result of homeowners insurance issues. There are three additional homeowners signed up now, following the August 24 meeting.

I hope this answers some questions; and thank you so much for your interest.

Allan Mueller

Hello to lovely Jamestown,
I am happy to say I will be moving to Jamestown CO next week.I will be living with Julie, Matt, Penelope, and Madelyn. I will be with my 13 year old son Santino (Sonny) for short. I was just here visiting, all I can say is wow. So I am back. I wanted to let everyone know that I have been cleaning houses, re-organizing, pet sitting, attending to all house tasks for 5 years plus. If anyone needs my assistance I would be happy to give you a quote. Please call me with any questions. I love getting my hands dirty, so don't be shy just ask if I can help and I will try to accommodate to your needs.

Thank you Kindly,

also need to re-fasten the brakes, which seem to have slipped off the handlebars.

My phone number is 303-667-2375, email is henrymans8222@gmail.com, phone is better if possible. get back to me quick cause it goes fast:).

When is the "picnic in the park" meant to get going? Is this a lunch picnic? Dinner? All day? Thanks, sounds fun!

Since there is a good chance of rain in the forecast for dinnertime this evening (Sat), is there a plan B for moving things in to the Merc if the weather doesn't support a beautiful picnic in the little park?

Wendy, Bridger was a great dog! And you and Tim were great grandparents to him. His spirit is probably flying down a pain free road somewhere, all heart with wings.

Tyler’s Bridger died this week. 2005-2019. 14-15 yrs old, pretty old for a 110# dog. We often took him summers when Tyler had heavy work schedules. He was a pain with other dogs, had to be leashed, and yet we loved him dearly. His exuberance for life was contagious. He’s now free of his old body, and will be missed by our extended family. ❤️

Hello Beautiful People!

Chuck and I are toeing the start line of Ouray 100 which starts tomorrow at 8am and finishes on Sunday at 12pm. We have 52 hours to complete the 100 miles which consists of 42,000ft of climbing (holly molly!).

We are super thankful for all the positive words we've received from JT! Here are the tracking links (we will have spot trackers which will be about 80% accurate due to the terrain... so if you dont see any movement, dont freak out :) )

sorry to do this everyone...

Chill and yoga is on hold until August and there will be NO CLASS TONIGHT. I have had some unexpected work obligations arise making it hard to manage evening class on Thursdays. I truly look forward to reconnecting in August and hope that you all can find some time to get on the mat and take care of yourselves.

I’ll post updates before the next class to remind everyone...

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions

Allan, Thanks for putting the FireWise meeting together. I was not able to attend but look forward to any summary info.

Randy, are you thinking that maybe people who have been through one fire are more in tune with learning how to increase survival odds for the next one?

For those who are curious about this pretty flower we're seeing a lot of this year:

It's the white-pink variety of scarlet gilia (Ipomopsis aggregata).
It's usually bright red and pollinated by hummingbirds, but in Boulder County, we don't encounter the red ones very often. Instead, the white/pink ones dominate and these are pollinated by hummingbird moths.

Thanks, C.W. for use of the photo!

Talking to another of the residents at the Firewise meeting, it appeared that the majority of attendees were evacuees of the 2003 Overland fire! Hmmmm!
Just sayin'!

Hello Jamestown,

The First Firewise Jamestown meet went well last night! Thanks to the speakers who took evening time to come share with us.

We had 21 Jamestown Citizens in attendance. Taken as a proportion of the population of our village that would be like Boulder having 9,300 people at an event!!! That kind of involvement is one thing I love about our town.

Thanks, more to follow,

Allan
