You said it well, Claudia, but I'll say it again in caps: BEST NEWS EVER!

Thanks to each of you who made this possible, because you ALL did! Django's home with us now, and after munching greedily on his dinner, he's fast asleep at my feet. Huge, huge thanks to Rick Westmoreland, who helped us contain django in his fenced yard today and waited patiently until the dog had calmed down enough to be petted and enjoy a treat or two. Words of high praise for everyone who was involved in any way in the 4-day search. You reminded us that there's still goodness in the world, and people who will go out of their way to help a terrified young dog find his way to a new and welcoming home.

Kathryn to follow up on contacting a rescue. Boulder County Animal control (dial 411 and ask for animal control) may be able to help. They have their ways of getting to a skittish dog. Ask to be contacted by whomever handles the mountain calls. Also there is a German Shepherd rescue not near by but breed rescues have been known to go the extra extra mile even if the dog is not pure bred.

To the folks who lost their dog: you might try calling a rescue because they have ways to trap them. This was just done on the Peak to Peak to trap a dog that was lost for a few days and it worked! Perhaps Lisa Cass, our local traveling vet has some suggestions for this. Best of luck everyone! Thank you all for trying to ensure that this dog is safe!

I don't know if this will help, but my dog was really skittish when I first got him 11 years ago (and still has some problems). When he would get loose and was scared, he wouldn't come to anyone, even me, even with delicious treats in hand. (He still won't go anywhere near anyone when he's scared.) But he did have a safe space -- the backseat of the car. If I opened the back door of the car and walked away, he would jump into the car. If you think he's by the lake, you might try parking the car and opening a door, then walking away. If he's watching it's possible that he might go to the car if it's a safe space for him. Or if he has a kennel or something where he feels safe, you might try setting that out and walking away. If he saw you by the lake, it seems likely that he would stay in the woods watching you. Anyway, just some thoughts....

We can't thank you enough, thoughtful & caring neighbors, for what you're doing to help us find and bring home our very frightened young dog. To those of you who've been driving around, leaving phone messages, and/or responding on the QT, you're clearly earning your Canine Angel wings! Unfortunately, we've just learned that he's been running back and forth between Bar K and Overland Drive, even at night, so please be careful when driving, as he's difficult to see! Don't worry about catching him, either, (unless by some miracle you DO!), because it will be difficult when he's so scared, and he definitely runs very fast. Just letting us know where and when you've seen him can make a big difference. You are The Best!

Recently I wrote of electrical problems, which my neighbors Sal and John G were of great assistance. I called J.Fitzer Electrical Contracting LLC as the company is an authorized GENERAC Sales and Service Provider. Super service same day...after hours really as it was 5:30 when Jeremiah arrived. He ordered parts and came this past Saturday to install. Highly recommend this small company. Just paid my bill electronically. Make a note for home repair!

My house down at the east end of Ridge Road just got thoroughly cased by a light brown medium sized bear with green ear tags. The bear methodically sniffed and stood up as needed to investigate everything around the house, looking for food. I kept moving from one window to another to watch, and it never saw me. He/she seems very calm and focused; my wife saw him/her on Saturday night, but it ran off immediately when it noticed her.

So, Be warned! Make sure you have no food accessible from the outside! I's now Monday at 7:55 am, and it's moving to the north, presumably towards the Bar-K.

It was beautiful to watch, sometimes from just a couple of feet away through a window. A very handsome animal, covered with frost. I feel sorry for it having to deal with this cold weather, but we want to see them, not feed them! Alas, I had nothing with which to take a picture...

First Saturday in June coming fast. This will be our 16th year for our once a year clean up...Adopt A Road project for the county. Not as big a task as “yesteryear”! But is a commitment we have made to the county and more importantly to our neighbors and the sister neighborhoods up here. We meet at 9 at 400 Rock Lake Rd. Just a two hour or less commitment but a commitment nevertheless. We encourage newbies to participate! Mark it on your calendar and additional info. Will be coming👍

We have a 19 year old Hitachi Tube TV, 36 inch diagonal, that is still in good working order. We recently discovered that they are now selling TVs without tubes, that are much skinnier, and weigh about a tenth of what our Hitachi weighs (how come no one told us?) Nonetheless, over the holidays we purchased one of these new devices (how smart can a TV really be?), and our Hitachi is sitting around like a teen cousin that has no where to go. Does anyone have a home for such a beast? It is yours for the taking, or in exchange for a good microbrew, should you feel guilty about taking such a priceless treasure off our hands. PSA#11 - The fat lady is clearing her throat... 10:59 AM
(request inbox sign up for Klaus's PSA's at kewolter@ (the mail that starts with G and ends with mail.com)
    Good morning everyone,

another complex storm system is bearing down on us, in fact, we are in the middle of a transition from one departing storm that was too warm to produce any snow below 9K to a new one that will be cold enough for snow all the way to the plains. The overall (soggy) pattern is basically a big trough of low pressure over the interior western US, with the departing (warm) storm coming in from the southwest, while the new (cold) one is dropping in from the northwest. Unfortunately (for snow lovers), the new storm will make a right turn as it comes in and will end up too far to the southwest of us to give us a real dump like two years ago.

Precipitation will gradually change from rain to snow (already happening in the higher foothills) as today progresses, reaching the lowest elevations this evening, and lasting off and on through the night and much of tomorrow before petering out. Best chances for snow to stick to the roads will be tomorrow morning, while the higher foothills will have messy roads from this afternoon thru much of tomorrow.

Expected snowfall totals similar to last time: 6-12" in higher foothills, with best chances for a foot or more in Larimer County, yet again, and 2-6" in Front Range cities, highest amounts on the west side of towns. The air should remain moist & cloudy enough to prevent a clear night, so we may dodge a hard freeze (again) at lowest elevations, while the higher foothills may have one of those rare May days with temperatures staying below freezing all day tomorrow (and this afternoon), unless the sun peaks thru the clouds for more than a few minutes. This should be a productive storm for the Front Range mountains as well, keeping skiable conditions alive for at least another week above 10K.

The pattern remains unsettled enough that I could see issuing one last PSA before May is over,
and delaying our wildfire season just a little while longer -

    Cheers,

    Klaus

P.S.: PSA#10 verified well (6"+ in Fort Collins, 4" in Boulder, 1" at DIA; up to about 16" around Estes Park, and 5-10" in the higher foothills of Boulder and Jefferson County). Higher up, 2-4" of moisture translated into several feet of snow around Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as the Park and Elk Range, a much appreciated boost after a lackluster April.

Yes I saw the lights getting really dim and killed the main breaker ASAP since that low voltage can wreak havoc. I haven't found any casualties here (yet) but I just looked at the Hempys transfer switch again and I'd say it's one. I did not touch anything there but my hands still smell faintly like a resistor roast if you know what I mean.

The Bar-K weather station took a minor hit as well.
The GFCI outlet that the weather server and web cams connect to were indeed "tripped" during the outage.

Good work John that was my first question to Sally ... are the circuits affected the same as the generator supplies power to ?
Seems only some of them got fried?
Phil and Sol's generator - yesterday sounded BAD then OK.
I bet it has something to do with the way the power failed....gradually.
Our lights were faintly glowing for a few minutes initially. Coffee maker was growling and humming as I disconnected it.
Brown out instead of black out never good.

Hempys have a transfer switch that switches part of their house over to the generator power. That's the same part that's not working. I opened up the transfer switch cover, things smell like they overheated inside. I was able to get them a bit of water pressure from our house but they will need a service call from Generac it seems.

To second Sal's idea, we have an outside GFCI that shuts off our second bath and some other lights/outlets when it trips! Thankfully, Bubba Huntley helped me track that down back in the day. It's my go to check whenever I can't find a tripped circuit breaker.

Sally-before calling in an electrician try "exercising" all the circuit breakers in your main and sub panels. Turn off then on each individual circuit breaker. Sometimes they only trip half-way and can fool you thinking they are "on" There are actually 3 positions of a breaker On, Off & Tripped. When tripped you need to turn off then on to restore power.
Shut off computer first to protect it from another abrupt shut down when you throw its breaker.
    Worth a try.

I just bought a bunch of fencing from Rocky Mountain Forest Products in Wheat Ridge. When they delivered the fencing they damaged several pieces, and was told by my rep to bring them back and they would exchange them. However after driving all the way, payed $350 to have it shipped to our house, their manager stated the pieces looked normal and would only change out three pieces. The manager there was extremely rude. I would avoid them at all cost if you can.

Hi neighbors! I wanted to share my exciting news ...

Some of you may already know, but for those who haven't yet heard...in the process of transitioning from flood recovery work (formerly in Jamestown, and now in Lyons) I took the plunge and became a licensed real estate agent earlier this year. I've been working hard under my mentor and broker, Jenn Porter, who also used to live up here in the Bar K. For those of you who know her, she is an excellent Realtor and has been in the business for about 9 years now. Under her mentorship, I am now fully trained up (I even have my first house sale under my belt as of Tuesday) - and am actively working in our neighborhood and mountain area...as well as down below in the county and beyond. Just spreadin' the word! I love our community and am excited to help others be a part of it, too! (And for the other agents in our area, I'm excited to collaborate!)

I got fed up with Agfinity about 2 years ago. After Peak To Peak sold out to Agfinity the customer service took a steep nose dive. Plus their pricing wasn't at all competitive anymore. I switched over to Fred's Propane and have been very happy with their service and staff. Plus it's a local establishment vs. a corporate run outfit. Fred's pricing is pretty good too. At the time I switched it was better than Agfinity by almost $0.20 a gallon. They also offer the quick pay discount program too. I believe a couple of the delivery drivers for Peak to Peak now work for Fred's.

The brown Husky was at our house twice today. He seems to be a very nice dog and friendly to humans. Unfortunately he also seems to love chickens and cats in the wrong way. My husband and I were able to avert 2 potentially bad situations because we were out with our animals. In case the owner is new to Boulder County, Boulder County law states that dogs must be kept at home, or be on a leash, and not be left wandering around. Thanks!

    hi Buzz (and others),
here's a possible solution to the reverse 911 call back, I think you'd have to go in through boco911alert.com to set up the extension feature:

    Chris,

I did some more digging on this question. It looks like it might be possible to put in a “1” (or whatever the required prompt is) in the extension field and this might allow you to get past any robocaller/antispammer filters but it would require the end user to do the work on their end in their account. Is that clear?

JAM THANKS YOU ALL for another uniquely epic Band in a Hat!!! The bands, songs (especially the originals and those about Jimtown!), and presentation were incredible and the perseverance, sticking it out in spite of any challenges, and hard work of every single person involved was much appreciated by everyone who attended!

SPECIAL THANKS to all who came and contributed as we raised over $1,300, which is the most we ever made at a BIAH event! These funds benefit Jamestown Area Artists & Musicians and will be put right back into the Town in many ways by creating future events, updating our equipment, and generally supporting The Arts.

EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to ALL volunteers who helped with whatever was needed, brought baked goods, collected donations, counted hat votes, filmed and took photos, AND to the amazing clean-up crew who stayed to the bitter end helping to return our Town Hall to a pristine condition, which will allow us to continue holding events there!

'Til next year then! Stay tuned for Band in a Hat #13 in 2020!!!

Jack went for a hike down the Ski road to where the " dry lake" used to be and he saw dog tracks with what appeared to be marks of dragging a leash along behind it. These were fresh tracks without human footprints. If you think your dog went for a hike or know if someone's dog is missing please share this. It might be beneficial to the dog and the owners.

    Hi Buzz-
for the system to place that many calls in a truncated timeline, I think they use multiple numbers. Essentially, the message will start playing when your greeting starts, so you may get some of it, or, list your cellphone with BOCO911alert.com and if you have a micro cell through the internet, you'll get the call on your cell.

Thanks for the research and info O'B. It appears that my phone doesn't use the '1' feature if it is a known and saved contact. That might be a way around it if Everbridge uses the same number every time they send out the calls. Any chance that the number could be reveled so we could add it in as a contact? Or if it uses a range of numbers we are probably SOL as far as the land line goes.

    Thanks again!

And a reminder, for the cell phone reverse 911 to work you must register the phone with the Sheriff's office: www.boco911alert.com, otherwise it's just a handy paperweight....

    Hi Buzz-
here's the answer to your question about the anti-spam settings on your phone:

Everbridge does not have functionality to get around Robo caller or anti-spam software. It is simply waiting for voice recognition before it starts delivering its message. If it was faced with a "press 1" prompt it would just try to deliver it's voice message but never make it to the recipient.

If you have a modern smart phone and internet service the "Wifi Calling" feature of that phone prompts you to enter your 911 response address (home address) when setting up the feature. If you enable wifi calling you should receive 911 callbacks via your internet connected smart phone as well as a land-line. On an iPhone the wifi calling setting is under the "cellular" settings group. Many folks I have met have this wifi calling disabled since that is the default. On an Android it's in a menu that may say "advanced calling features" or similar.

    Hi Buzz-
the reverse 911 actually generates from another system at Dispatch called Everbridge. Everbridge allows the capacity to ring down by polygon (proscribed areas), and to call landlines, cell phones and pagers. The County is working on evacuation polygons with the various districts to aid in streamlining. Essentially the FD has 2 choices: we can advised the area we want evacuated by a temporary polygon, or we can use a pre-identified polygon to evacuate. Obviously, the pre-identified polygons tend to be larger. Everbridge can use CL and cellular to call phones. The system will continue to call until it gets a response from that phone. The system "should" be able to override the robocall block feature, but I will check in with the Boulder County Comms center to verify.

    Question for the community:
In light of the fire above Lyons the other day we were thinking about a few things to try to stay prepared.

We have signed up for Reverse 911, but we have CenturyLink (unfortunately). One of the features we do have set up is that the caller must enter a '1' to prove they are human for the call to be connected to cut down on robocalls. Does Reverse 911 handle that '1'? Does anyone have any idea about this? Can Reverse 911 be white listed somehow? Does CenturyLink white list that automatically?

    Thanks in advance!

Be careful out there. If you don't need to go, don't. It is supposed to get much colder this evening which will cause more icing.

Ward | Home destroyed in Tuesday fire

A fire destroyed a house near Ward on Tuesday morning.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release that emergency personnel found the home, located on Boulder County Road 100, engulfed in flames.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Multi-Agency Fire Investigation Team.

Boulder County sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Wagner said the fire was reported at 6:25 a.m. in the 200 block of County Road 100.

There was initially some concern the fire could spread to nearby trees and an outhouse structure.

Agencies that responded in addition to the sheriff’s office include Indian Peaks Fire Protection District, Nederland Fire, Lefthand Fire and AMR Ambulance.

    Jamestown Easter Egg Hunt

    When: Saturday April 20, 2019 11am

    Where: Elysian Park

Please have a family member or friend show up between 10-10:30am to hide eggs and treats. Recommended are 15-20 items for each child participating. Friends and family from out of town are welcome- please be sure to hide extra treats for them.

Toys and treats for kids 3 years and under can be wrapped in foil or bright colors to make them easier to find. Small toys and stuffies are great so that the little kids don't end up with too much sugar. The littles will hunt in the park playground area.

The hunt is for kids UNDER 12, but middle school and high school kids are welcome! We would love their help hiding eggs and assisting the 4-6 year olds hunt in the big park area.

The hunt will start promptly at 11. Please please please be there on time as it's tough to keep eager hunters from blazing out.

Don’t forget to dress for the weather. Hope to see you there!

Good evening, please remember that there is a bicycle Time Trial race from the Greenbriar to just above Elliot's pitch tomorrow from 9-1. A time trial is an event where the riders start one at a time on a 30 second interval. you won't see packs racing uphill, but there may be riders passing on the left. It's an individual event. They will finish just below town and they will ride back down the canyon, downhill is not a race. Give yourself extra time tomorrow, yes, it is race season!

First of all I want to say wonderful blog!

I had a quick question in which I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
    Appreciate it!

Good morning, The USFS will be burning piles today on the Gill project in and around the Blue Jay mine with assistance fro the LHFPD mit crew. As part of the prep for the burn the piles are cleared of snow and disturbed. This action ensures that any animals that have taken up residence in the piles are scared off. Smoke and flames will be visible around the piles all day today.

    Hi,

I’m going to Front Range Community College as a biology major, lately my job in Boulder has been inconsistent so I’m having some trouble saving up for the next monthly payment for my classes. I’m happy to do any odd jobs, clean houses, housesit, babysit, etc, and I have references from people I’ve worked for in the bar-k and Jamestown if you need them. Any work would help me out a lot right now, thank you. My email is roseanasummers at gmail and my home phone is 303 459 0370.

The bands are in full swing creating an epic Band in a Hat #12 show!

CALLING ALL ARTISTS of any age to submit black & white artwork for BIAH flyers, posters, and the program OR colored artwork to show at the event! This is NOT a contest, rather it's a chance for our local artists to be actively involved and properly represented.

While we will gratefully accept any artistic creation, we are especially interested in designs that visually describe the "Band-In-A-Hat" concept of randomly chosen musicians working collaboratively while supporting the mission of JAM (Jamestown Area Artists and Musicians): "To foster a sense of community in the Jamestown area by encouraging adult and youth participation in and enjoyment of the Arts." The event motto of "Dare To Suck" can even be included, but is not necessary.

    ADS!

Calling all local businesses and artists to place an AD in our black & white event program according to these reasonable prices:

    $10 = business card = 2" x 3.5"

    $20 = half page (either portrait or landscape orientation) = 3" x 6" (horizontal ad) or 2.5" x 7.5" (lengthwise ad)

    $40 = full page = 6" x 7.5"

Program Size = 8.5" x 14" legal size paper folded in half as a booklet. Money collected from ads covers the program printing costs and anything extra benefits JAM (Jamestown Area Artists and Musicians), which always goes back to The Town in some way.

Any volunteers who could sell ad spots to local businesses specifically related to The Arts (music, art, theater, etc.) would be greatly appreciated! We also need 3 prize donations for the Hat Contest if you feel so inclined to ask!

Area businesses, musicians, and artists REPRESENT! The Merc - 4th of July benefit - JVFD/EMS - Yoga - Tai'Chi - Town of Jamestown - Save our Bears - Traveling Vet - Vox Feminista - massage - Hoshi Motors - bed & breakfast - musicians and upcoming shows - artists - pottery - computer repair - wifi - recording studios - jewelry - recycling - goofy friend ads - etc.

Submissions will be gratefully accepted as soon as possible or by NEXT Sunday, March 24th by emailing jamforthearts@gmail.com

Please forward, share, and spread the word to other artists or advertisers who may be interested!

    Hey neighbors -

Elvis went on a very long adventure last week (he was gone for about 7 hours - little booger) and he tore up his paw pads and nails pretty badly.

I've been caring for his paws, but with all of this snow they sometimes start to bleed again. Does anyone have doggy boots we could borrow for a month or so while his pads heal?

    Thanks!

Good afternoon! If anyone has further questions on prescribed burning practices used by the LHFPD, USFS, Boulder County or City of Boulder, here's a great upcoming educational event:

    Greetings,

We are sharing this unique opportunity to learn more about prescribed fire:

Have you ever wondered what goes into implementing a prescribed fire? What does the decision process look like? How do they maintain safety? Who decides if the project should proceed? Join us for the.

What is a prescribed burn? FIELD TRIP

    Date: Saturday April 13, 2019

    Time: 8:00am - 1:00pm

Meeting location: Boulder County Parks & Open Space offices, 5201 St. Vrain Rd., Longmont

This special field trip is being organized by the CU Center for Sustainable Landscapes and Communities, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and the City and County agencies responsible for prescribed fire and wildfires.

On Saturday, April 13, 2019, 8:00am – 1:00pm you’ll have an opportunity to learn about prescribed fire and how it is used by our city and county open space departments to manage our forests and grasslands. We will go to open space lands with wildfire experts, forest managers and forest ecologists to learn how prescribed burns are done, get an up-close look at the equipment used, and find out what’s achieved by such burns. There will be plenty of time to ask your questions too.

Reserve your spot today at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/58673965410

Registration is free, but required; space is limited.

    Hope to see you there,

I'm just commenting to let you know of the remarkable discovery our child found visiting your blog.
She picked up several pieces, which included what it's like to have an ideal giving character to have folks clearly know selected specialized subject matter. You actually surpassed readers' expected results. I appreciate you for giving such good, safe, informative and unique tips on the topic to Julie.
