/m13812 -- Rick -- "I have been a RCA for almost 3 years. Told we don’t get sick leave or vacation. I have been covering a route long term."

-- Manglement is partial correct in that RCA's don't normally earn annual and sick leave.

-- However - comma - if the RCA is in a leave-earning capacity, it is possible to earn annual and sick leave.

-- As usual, there are some hoops to jump through.

-- An RCA with a Designation Code 79 is one who has been appointed via Form 50 after serving on an AUX route for more than 90 calendar days. On Day 91, annual and sick leave will be credited back to Day 1.

-- IF you have been filling in on a regular route for more than 90 calendar days due to the regular carrier being off the route due to illness, injury, or becoming a 204b, manglement submit paperwork so a Form 50 arrives, changing your Designation Code to 72. On Day 91, annual and sick leave will be credited back to Day 1.

-- One of the flies in the ointment, is if the regular comes back before you 90th day, even for 1 day, you start over from Day 1 when the regular departs. That usually happens when the regular is a 204b ( manglement type ). The APWU and NALC have provisions in their contracts that someone going the 204b route has a specific time to stay on the manglement side or return to their craft. The NRLCA has no such provision so manglement can and does use it to keep an RCA from reaching leave-earning status.

-- If you have not completed 90 calendar days, you will still be a Designation Code 78.

-- If you believe you have completed 90 calendars filling in for an absent regular, count up the days and inform manglement. Then wait for the Form 50 to arrive, placing you in a leave earning status.

Obvious answer is your union.

If route owner is IOD though, you’ll probably have no recourse. Again, Union will know.

I am looking for contact info to sign up for Health Insurance out of season, due to Life Changing Event. LiteBlue site form proves to be of little use at this time. Thank you.

Route changes took effect today. My route is a large subdivision. They started expansion last year, eventually it will be another 300 houses. My route was getting cut because of the growth there already is. I was told they could cut a section of highway I delivered to take me down. The AMS girl said but I'd get a "few" boxes added. She specifically mentioned two gas stations and a golf course. I go in today, and find that in addition, she's added condos and a strip mall to it. The changes now will take longer than what I had before. I would never have signed that I give my permission to make changes had she been honest and mentioned the condos and businesses. Just before I won the bidding for this route in June 2018, they had the condos and businesses then. They were gone the day before I began this route. It seems all they do it play musical chairs with whats on a route. Is there anything I can do? I signed for changes under false pretenses.

An RCA on probation has little chance if any to reverse a termination.
I do not think the NRLCA would make an effort to defend the employee.

Can a RCA on probation be let go even though management didn't specify all aspects of the job and terminated him without explanation?..does he have a right to file a grievance?

/m13802 -- Ct -- "postmaster is making decisions based on race. 3 or 4 of us want to file eeo. How do we proceed? Can we remain anonymous?"

-- First - contact your office steward, of if none, your Assistant District Representative regarding your observations of the pm's actions.

-- Second - document, document, document with names, dates, decisions, and those involved.

-- Remain anonymous? Probably word with get out one way or another. Just don't let it be the 3 or 4 of you.

/m13801 -- Mary -- "I got mt retro pay today and about 40% was taken out under "misc"...what the hell is this for??"

-- Probably 22% was taken off the top.

-- To name a few other possibilities: TSP contribution, Retirement fund contribution, Insurance(s) payment(s), Allotment(s), any court ordered payment(s), pay back of any emergency salary payment, and the dreaded "etc".

Any talk of mail count in September?? It sucks 4yrs ago I got a 43hr rt. It when they counted it was 45. Then fast fwd and the next count it was a 49 and I was only getting paid for 45. So they totally re did 4 routes like I really only kept a third of my orginal rt and was given a chunk off another rt. I have a calander to prove my rt is heavier NOW than it was when it counted as a 49. About 18 mths ago I sent all the copies to the union and they were like o well cant do nothing till a normal mail count. I am so tired working for free. I just want a count.

/m13796 -- jimmiejohn90 -- "Rca was involved in accident, is it mandatory that rca take training class immediately before returning to work?"

-- POV or LLV?

-- Probably. One of our rural carriers got tapped on the rear LLV bumper by an inattentive driver. Totally not the carrier's fault but still had to take the online driver's course. It took a long time to get the office computer to work.

-- EL-801 ( Supervisor's Safety Handbook ) Section 3-5.2 - Motor Vehicle Safety - Training Requirement:

- You, the supervisor, are responsible for ensuring that drivers have the required initial driver's training. You are also responsible for scheduling any additional refresher driver's training for employees with deficient driving skills.

RCA lucky to only have to bone up on safety. I made that deal to avoid discipline if could.

Complain to CA state agency. You may work at PO but you don't work FOR the PO.
