The law of unintended consequences has struck Internet broadcasting. Because ad agencies refuse to pay court-mandated fees if ads are run on the Web, they have demanded that radio stations not run the affected ads online. It turns out to be hard to pick and choose which commercials you play. Most radio stations have simply stopped streaming their content, according to this lucid explanation by Steve Dolge, managing editor of WTOP News in Washington, DC.

Thank goodness the best radio station in America, KPIG, continues to stream its content.

Is your favorite station still streaming?

SomaFM.com is still on the air. We have no commercials.

This should come as no surprise to broadcasters - the TV people have dealt with this since I was working at KPIX San Francisco in 1995.
