The Clinton-Gore administration oversaw a vast expansion of rights for intellectual-property holders at the expense of the public's right to fair use of materials in which someone claims IP ownership.
I'm curious how Bush-Cheney will treat this subject. My best guess would be a continuing expansion of IP rights claims by benign neglect of the commons. Can anyone cite any campaign statements made by either the Republican candidates or their party?
The Clinton-Gore stance on IP was fueled, the cynics among us say, by Hollywood's unprecedented level of contribution to the Democrats' 1992 and 1996 campaigns (and presumably also to Gore-Lieberman in 2000). Does anyone have hard data on how much the IP interests gave to Bush-Cheney this time around?
