I agree with your observations, Timothy. One of the advantages of QT is the ability to "subscribe" to a particular topic, and thus get email notification of any new messages added to that topic. Clearly the email link is crucial to the successful use of any online message exchange.

The biggest hurdle I've seen with discussion sites in a corporate setting has been participation. Many people are not in the habit of visiting web sites frequently unless prompted, and even then use is far from universal.

From just looking at this resource quickly, the thing that strikes me as killer about it is the integration with e-mail. Being able to subscribe (and reply, it appears) via e-mail should make use of the tool much easier, and unlike some newer forms of on-line collaboration, e-mail use appears to be nearly ubiquitous.

Hi, I created Quick Topic and I can say it's used in many educational settings, including high school classrooms for posting and critiquing work, by college professors to discuss assignments, etc. Though I don't know of a use that's strictly in the distance learning category, it ought to do well there too. I'd be interested to know about your experience if you do use it for distance learning.

Hello. I am looking for a forum to be used as an aditional tool for a distance education program. Does anyone knows if Quick Topic has been used in these kinds of activities? Thanks.

Exactly. There's something especially empowering about being able to create and participate in one-topic discussions. And even more empowering when you use the "my topics" capability which lists all the topics to which you are subscribed. Suddenly you have your very own bulletin board, hosting your unique collection of conversations.

Gee, this reminds me of using "NotesFiles" back in the early 80's. Simple, quick and handy.

This "topic" complements the article on "Virtual Teamwork." It's your invitation to play with an elegant tool that can help your team collaborate online.
