as someone who runs a caravan i'm interested to see how this plays out. i run the caravan from california into vegas for defcon and it's been suggested by caravan participants that we run wifi between cars. unfortunatley, due to the large scale of vehicles in the caravan [as low as forty and somewhere over fifty at the high end] and the fact that we had a wifi related close call a couple years back we can't run an access point without breaking saftey protocols. of course, the only reason any protocols had to be put in place is i'm a wicked anal control freak.
then again, we have a rich comms plan laid out [frs for car to car, ham/gmrs for caravan coordinators and a low power pirate radio station to reach everyone in the caravan.] and we aren't on the road for more than five hours [save for the bay area folks, but i think they run their own ap on the way down].
