Read Karel van Wolferen's _The Enigma of Japanese Power_.

While written ~15 years ago, it clearly described the "System" that Ito briefly described in that talk.

Having lived there for 8 years, I found that book to be very good preparation.

Apparently this was just an intro for a more extended discussion by others. Wish we could see the whole presentation. Bilingual; must set balance left or right to hear English or Nihongo.

Who is Joi Ito? Excellent analysis, though more of a snapshot of a system than an analysis, really.
