This did nothing for me (note: this is sort of an old solution - I read about and tried this at least 2 months ago). I have to echo the posts that say that if what I have is normal TiBook reception, I truly feel for those who have "bad" reception.

I've found nothing to improve my reception. I note that there are external antennas for Airport Extreme basestations, but nohing for first rev basestations. If anyone has a proven solution, I'm willing to hack around with a dremel tool and some wire, but I'm leery of wasting time doing something that will offer no improvement.
