With any of the newer Replay TV's (40xx, 45xx, or 50xx) you can effectively do the same thing and have as much space as you need, it's likely cheaper too. DV Archive or any of the other user-developed Replay applications allow hard drive space as large as that on your local area network.
These apps work by taking advantage of native Replay features. Replay TV's are designed to communicate with other like Replays on the shared LAN. Apps like DV Archive just make any old PC emulate a Replay device. Thus enabling Replay's native features that allow shows to be copied back and forth from one Replay to any other Replay, (or in this case, a PC emulating a Replay) on the network. These native features also allow shows to be streamed in real-time from the PC back to the Replay and your viewing pleasure.
It's not necessary to hack or crack open the Replay unit at all, just install this app to your PC and make sure it's on the same LAN. Need more space? Add a few more hard drives to your PC, simple and cheap.
