A friend of mine David Dazig, along with his family, has been campaigning for over a decade to abolish daylight savings time. He's got a website with some good arguments for his case: standardtime.com

I'd like to abolish standard time. Seriously. I'd rather have daylight in the evenings than the morning.

Didn't the issue in Israel cause someone to blow up last year?
Apparently the bomb was set to detonate based on one DST, while the bomber's watch was set to another, causing the bomb to detonate 1 hour earlier than he expected, killing him as he was pulling out of his driveway...
Darwin award story or is it the truth? Dunno.

This is why God created UTC.

DST is one of those idiotic little traditions that I can't decide whether to hate it or treasure it as a quaint link with an alien past.

Personally, I think it makes sense to eliminate time zones entirely and just use UTC for the whole planet. You would just have to know when people in other areas worked, went to bed, etc. So, for instance, I work from 12:30 to 21:30. I get up around 11:30, go to bed (ideally) about 5:00. The main drawback would be to New Year's parties. Not so bad for the east coast of the US, but I bet it would suck for, say everything east of Cairo. I also think it makes more sense than jack-ass ideas like "Swatch Beat"

Arizona is sort of wacky too...they don't do DST, except for the Navajo reservation, which does. (my grandpa, who lived in AZ for many years, said that the Hopi only went w/out DST because they hated the Navajo more than the white people.)
I'd go with DST all year round for more light in the evening too. after all, it's gonna be dark in the morning in Jan. regardless (in Washington state), might as well get some daylight past 3 pm.
