Why not both malevolence and incompetence? No one ever said humans were rational except Ayn Rand...

And she only said we were capable of it, not that we ever really use it...as she demonstrated herself by her support of the concept of the state...

Humans are characterized by five qualities:
1) Stupidity.
2) Ignorance.
3) Irrationality.
4) Maliciousness.
5) And the big one, the source of all the others: fear.

All this is what you get when you add conceptual processing ability on top of primate hierarchical social ordering on top of biological organisms run by random neurochemistry...

It's a losing proposition from day one - sort of like the Iraq war...

Hey... I actually live in Columbus, Ohio. And what's really scary is that I AM being watched.... at least that's what they tell me.

My friends in government try to convince me that incompetence is far more common than malevolence -- but they forget that positions of power attract such people.
