It does not work with AppleTalk...doesn't support AppleTalk packets. But I suggest you just use TCP/IP anyway and turn off AppleTalk...that is if you use OS X. AppleTalk has a tremendous amount of overhead and actually slows down the transfer speed of files from Mac to Mac over Airport. I really don't find AppleTalk necessary with OS X.
I bought one of these as a repeater to boost my signal when I'm outdoors...although my Airport is still the main wireless unit.

Caveat emptor comes to mind on this one: while I haven't heard anything very recently (within the last 6-8 months) I've heard quite a number of reports of unhappy transactions with TigerDirect. I have, it's true, heard the occasional good report, but since the Southeast Florida Better Business Bureau gives TigerDirect a writeup that I read as "sucktastic and craptacular," I think that there is reason for some caution.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the Airport basestation comes with a modem built in, correct? I'm not sure this one does.
Wired Mag, in its July issue compared the Airport to two other wireless hubs. They recommended one by Linksys.

It's just as good for providing wireless connections. I'm not sure if it supports AppleTalk, which means that you might get a better file-sharing and printer-sharing experience out of your Airport. Also, the Airport has a modem, too, so you can use it to connect to a dialup network as well as a DSL/Cablemodem pipe. Finally, the new Airport APs have a second Ethernet port for connecting them to hubs and hence wire LANs, which this doesn't have. OTOH, this is $60.
