That said, I really despise websites of any kind that "don't support" particular browsers or platforms. Except Netscape 4 users, who should be rounded up into concentration camps.

I've used Safeway.com many times on OS X, and it seems to work just fine if you use Mozilla 1.0 instead of IE.

I've used Safeway.com under 9.1, can't recall if with IE or Netscape.

For me it was a waste of time - [1] The organization of the site is horrid, quicker to 'Search' for each item by name than to try and locate it within their idea of a heirarchy (none of my Safeway Club Card info was in the system, so I had to add each and every thing I wanted by hand), [2] they don't take coupons and [3] unless you specify NO SUBSTITUTIONS on items you get things like a plastic bowl of diced onions instead of whole onions.

Our delivery guy used to work for WebVan and even he was commenting on how S. had a way to go before it was friendly.

All I can say was thankfully delivery was free after an in-store coupon.

That actually looked like a very nice letter that stated they were aware of the problem and were hoping to do something about it.

Stefan, yeah, hence my "stamping my widdle foot in frustration" post, as opposed to a "smash the infidel" post.

I used HomeGrocer slavishly (for over a year) until they were bought by WebVan. I used Webvan (albeit with much less satisfaction) until they went under. I've tried Safeway.com; the delivery was over an hour late, the website was almost unusable, and I got someone else's groceries (one bag switched: I was missing stuff but got someone else's). I won't use it again.

It's a darn shame; I was massively spoiled using HomeGrocer. I miss that darn peach truck and I miss their commercials and I miss their jingle. For over a year I shopped for a week's groceries for 4 people in less than 15 minutes, either at work on a break or at home after my kids were asleep. The deliveries were timely and the driver was friendly. My groceries came to my kitchen countertop. And there were samples to try each week. If they didn't have what I wanted, they substituted something else for *free*.

Businesses like these are UTTERLY dependent on your good will. Call that 1-877 number and give them a piece of your mind. Let them know that grocery shopping in person -- at Albertson's -- is still an option.

Typical corporate fux0r. "Hey - let's cut out a huge part of our market. Who cares if we're trying to sell in an area with probably one of the largest clusters of Mac users in the US?"
