I'm almost 100% sure that all of the movies and most of the pictures are mpg->ascii and jpg->ascii conversions.

Apple even has a tool that will do this for you.

The site is still a very cool little selection of computer-generated ascii art, but that is far less impressive than some of the hand drawn ascii movies out there.

Doesn't make them less fun. As I commented when I sent the
