I also used to post to newsgroups with a real reply address. I tried to weather the spam storm, but I finally gave up on newsgroups when I dumped my 30-40 spams a day Yahoo email address that I used on said newsgroups. Now all my forum stuff is done on the web. Mostly on sites using phpBB or, to a lesser extent, Slashcode.

I used to love exam weeks, because sometimes I could MUD for 4-5 days in a row. MUD coding was addictive to me because I could create anything that I could imagine and implement, and immediately watch other people interact with it. It satisfied both artistic and geek cravings. Plus it taught me object oriented programming well before I ran into C++. I so wish I could find an old snapshot of the cyberpunk MUD we were working on, I have fond memories of my old ShadowCorp section.

My brother actually dropped out of Iowa State because of MUDing.
He used to tell me of weekends where the time would progress as such:
1) Friday after class, retire to dormroom, log into MUD. 2) Monday morning, go to breakfast at the cafeteria.

Between BITNET relay chat, MUDs and being at an official party school, how did I ever make it out of college with a degree?
