The Segway uses a Dallas Semiconductor iButton token as an activation key. You just plug it in for a moment to turn the scooter on. The iButton does come in a finger ring format - I've got one that holds my PGP key. But Segway supplied them in a keyring fob. It would be smart for Segway to offer the ring option, it might attract some interest and help to promote the gadget.
BTW I rode a Segway Human Transporter last week, it was great fun but not as intuitive as I expected. Took me a few minutes before I was able to make it stop and go when I wanted.
