i think MCcarthy is absolutely describing the future. From my point of view if we try to isolate the subatomic particles with a LASER , they will reach a state, when they could be made to change their state at our own will. it's like their formation in any form can be controlled. BUT , if we lose control of those , they could be the monsters!!
