Well I may have spoken too soon. I VPNed into the office LAN and quickly discovered that anonymizer.com is on the banned sites list. So this doesn't work. I'm bummed.

...surfed a bit and discoverd megaproxy.com. That site doesn't seem to be blocked by my work. Yet. Cool. Can't post on quicktopic without paying a fee though. (http Post is disabled). I'll give it a test tomorrow at the office and maybe fork over some bucks.

...confirmed (next day) MegaProxy is Good. I paid my money and everything so now I can post on QuickTopic again. Ain't ya thrilled? :)

Well, you are indeed The Man. I'd heard of anonymizer but thought it was just for doing illegal stuff. Which I guess is what I'll be doing if I use it at work. :) I like it.

I tried jabber sometimeago I think to combine AIM with MSN. Didn't have much luck at the time. I'll give it a shot again. I assume that puts everything over port 80? That'll be about the only port the buggers leave open I think.

For the Web, try anonymizer.com. For IM, you can always switch to Jabber or some other protocol.

The site I'm working at (a very large government org) today just announced they'll be blocking all IM traffic on the network. How progressive. They cited a security risk.

In other news they've blocked access to Quicktopic.com all of a sudden. I guess I'd been surfing too much at work.

If anyone knows workarounds to either situation I'd love to try to implement them.

The W3C has long used IRC during teleconferences. They've even hooked up their teleconference bridge to IRC so it tells you when people join or leave, identifies who is speaking and keeps track of who has their virtual hand raised. It's wonderful.
