Hypothesis: A lot of today's geeks are techies because the rise of the computer industry has created a big, cushy niche for them.
Brockman's bunch are polymath uber-geeks; folks who not only DO science and technology, but can write about them. He calls them the Third Culture that spans the gap between C.P. Snow's Two Cultures.

Hmm, this is interesting. I always thought I knew what a geek was, more or less. According to this site, I've been wrong. It has less to do with tech. expertise and more to do with being an intellectual acheiver?
