Both are in the same category of system as (some parts of) search engines; trying to categorize documents based on their contents.
Which leads to the idea that the one employer who would _really_ want candidates who can game their way through a resume sorter would be a spammer! If you're looking for someone to get your message thru spam filters, set up a resume filter and only look at the resumes of people who can beat it.

On the flip side, if you aren't applying to a monolithic corporation, writing your resume to read by a machine instead of the person who will actually be reading it does you a disservice.
